So... agreeing to something whether or not you agree is not something we could ever agree on :)

    I agree.

(Or am I just saying that ?..................) smiley

You raise a good point. You are probably agreeing to agree just to appear agreeable - I can only agree to disagree with this practice! Nice haircut though ;)

There's one site I go to where each thread is moderated by the OP. yep.

So many OPs get challenged, have emotional meltdowns and lock their own threads-

---- but always after having the last angry word. lol

    That's a weird thing.

I have one who continually calls me a adjective that rhymes with trucking moron, keep telling her my given birth name is Wendy and in a professional environment I expect her to use it, which only sets her off more.

Careful, some truck driver somewhere might be offended by your use of that phrase!
(As a retired truck driver, however, I can say that I've met a few trucking morons -
but they're vastly outnumbered by the non-trucking morons on our roads!)

Oh, I thought of another great thing about Ignore.

There are some posters who make exquisitely designed and rendered scenes with subject matter I find unpleasant, for one reason or another.

I don't hate those posters, they have every right to post, but I don't want to see any of their images. So... plonk.

I have an idea that I know exactly which person, or one of the persons, that you mean and I do wish I could ignore their images;  but not allowed.

Yeah, I'm certainly not somebody who is easily offended. But I've seen quite a bit of stuff (images...) in the DAZ/Poser forums that is somewhere between creepy and totally offensive.

Unfortunately you usually can't suggest they tone it down because you risk offending the person who is offending you, and apparently that's a no-no.

    Strange how that works huh?

Mods always have a harder time because if they ignore someone, then they won't see when that someone needs to be moderated.

I totally empathise with you about those morons.  I used to like it when my son came along as my 'van boy'  He would say "Mum, you concentrate on avoiding them and I'll swear at them for you"

I wish the ignore feature could somehow prevent me from seeing when
other people quote the one person I am ignoring on the Daz forums

I have only put one person on ignore.  Pretty sure I am on more than one ignore list by others, so I am at a net negative on that count.  I try to be constructive, but sometimes fail.  When I am aware of my failure, I apologize and offer a more appropriate venue for a discussion that I mistakenly thought was inappropriate.  It is all one can do.

Here is more info related to handling trolls by folks cited above.  Worth considering the discussion, even if not using the service.

  • Heh. I know my posts/tone can be abrasive or blunt, so I'm not surprised if people consider me a troll. *shrug* I'm trying to be a little more positive these days, tho'.

Wow. I give you a lot of credit for doing something that people rarely do...admit it's not always "the other guy" smiley

We humans tend to blame everyone else for all our problems, but in the years I've visited various forums I've noticed that there are a lot of times when people blame others or call them "trolls" solely for something as harmless as just disagreeing or having a different opinion. Or criticizing something that somebody else likes. Or embarassing someone by proving them wrong in front of others.

Yeah, occasionally there are some people who just want to hurt others and cause pain and so on, but honestly IMO that's the exception. Usually it comes down to disagreements and criticisms and getting embarassed in front of your online "friends". And people are rarely willing to pull back and admit they're wrong or admit the stuff they like isn't perfect. And that's what starts and perpetuates online battles and hatred and ignores.

As the old saying goes, "it takes two to tango"...

Heh, there's one person I'm ignoring who apparently finds me insufferable and took some comments I made as part of a constant stream of personal attacks.

Since I didn't intend that at all and it seemed like a normal conversation to -me- I figured Ignore would save us both further grief.

For the record, I have 8 folks on Ignore. It may sound like I have hundreds... :)

Hard to believe someone finds timmins.william insufferable...

You seem real nice and reasonable.

    That's a head scratcher.....

I used to have Timmins on ignore. I am pleased to say I removed him a while ago. I find his posts interesting and useful now but in this one thread he did succeed in pushing my buttons.

Sorry about whatever that was and glad I don't seem as obnoxious most of the time. ;)

    Don't worry about it. =-)

I actually like you Timmins and your comments are quite helfpul.  And I must admit to a fondness for your art in the man thread. =-) At the time it seemed like the right thing to do...

But the reality was you remained on the list only because I couldn't get access to remove you from the ignore list.

I'm just posting here so no one reading this, to whom this is new information to, will then have to look up a post of mine to go and specifically ignore me... Or worse yet forget how to use the ignore feature and at a later date, then have to look at whatever I've written...

Assuming their eyeballs auto-lock onto whatever they haven't yet read in a thread... or possibly if they've lost their eyelids in some horrible, but somewhat comical shaving accident.

Eyelidlessness, is a serious problem for millions or dozens of people worldwide and I wish to express my sympathies for your condition if this is indeed an actual condition... And if I ever come across an eyelidlessness charity I'll donate something like cash or spare eyelids to it... I'm really bad at remembering stuff like that, so unless I come across one in the next six minutes, sorry.

Okay... That said, go ahead and ignore me.

Thank you and have a terrific day!

Eh, having self-awareness will do that to ya', haha.

For serious though, I'm an opinionated person and I'm not afraid to speak my mind. But I do know that speaking ones mind =/= free reign to act like a jerkass (yet being human, I forget that sometimes, lmao). I don't think everyone who expresses negative or contrarian opinions is a troll, per se: like, Daz will never get better at certain things if they're not brought to light (i.e. the race and gender disparity issues, stereotyping, etc), so I think more people need to speak up about these things, even at the risk of rustling a few jimmies.

But OTOH, there's a difference between that and just flat-out being rude and hostile to others. It's easy to conflate the two, since people will people and have strong feelings about a subject, and they'll express them... passionately. Just look at what's going on in the world for the past year and a half. Hell, I'm just as guilty of getting worked up and hostile towards others over some of the dumbest things on this forum.

At the end of the day, tho'... sometimes you gotta step back from the keyboard, and realize you're getting involved in an internet slapfight with someone over digital Barbie and Ken dolls. Is that really something you want to waste time and emotional energy on? lmao

Nothing that occurs in the forums here really equates to some of the crazy stuff that occurs when someone posts in other forums that I've seen. I draw the line when someone personally attacks another person. At that point discourse sort of ends for me and I block the attacker. Ironically personal attacks from random strangers is the norm in some places when posting a contrarian point of view will turn get you personally demeaned ridiculed and abused. In this regard I find the forums here rather tame in comparison.

In some places if you are not politically correct, or agree with their point of view or opinion,  then the group will properly considered you a troll. just for not being PC/   Wait!  that's almost every where now days , Dang .. I guess I am a troll too. because I am NOT politically correct.

does posting in this thread means i'm a troll?

    or trollup

I thought you were fighting trolls.... wink , Or does saying that make me a troll....cheeky (Ouch, you'll be fighting me then.....)

On a more serious level, never did hit an 'ignore' button for anyone; simply don't react (any longer) if I think it's not worth it,,,,,,
