Log file is in C:\Users\You\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio 4, along with saved layouts and all the other stuff that was in Documents and settings...Application Data under XP. There's also a Studio 3 folder for DS3.

Your content, by default, goes in \DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library in your Documents folder (C:\Users\You\Documents) for DS4 and to \DAZ 3D\Studio 3\Content for DS3.

Your applications will be in C:\Program Files (64 bit) or C:\Programme Files (x86) (32 bit).

Most of the folders you list don't exist on Vista and later, applications never should have had hard-coded paths to them (after all, several included the suer name and so varied from system to system) but used and use environment variables to obtain the correct location for the system.

...so one of my questions is, why is there also a locked folder icon named "Application Data" (where the Daz logfiles in XP were routed), and again, as I am the admin on my own system, why is it (and other folders) locked out at all (giving a "Access Denied" error when clicked on)? In my view, this is just bad coding, it's not like I'm going to sabotage my own system I spent all these months and hard earned money to design and build. There has to be a switch or command somewhere to "unlock" these. ...
Because they are (most likely) Junction Points KK -- there is NO command to "unlock" them. (sidenote: VMS had a similar 'SET FILE/ENTER=...' if that's something you had experience on). I'm not quite sure how you've managed to achieve the (logical) filesystem you have, but there is definitely Something Weird(tm) going on.

Please try that "DIR /aL /s /p" command I listed above, and see what it shows you about the directories under C:\ProgramData\. If it comes up with a bunch of errors about not being able to read directories in there, then yes you HAVE got a totally weird system (access-wise), and the quickest way to return to sanity (totally imho - Ps1 may correct me on this) would be to reformat your C: and reinstall from scratch.

And the main autofit problems I've experienced have been with Gen 4 and Gen 3 footwear.

I still use Aiko 3 a lot, but she's showing her age. :-S I also have some outfits that ONLY fit A3 and V3 with no Gen4 equivalents.

If I could simplify the workflow to: load Genesis, load proper generation morph, load morph and clothes, render.. it'd be nice. Anything that would shrink my runtime a bit would help too, my DAZPeople runtime is an unholy jumble of Gen3/Gen4 figures and morphs! :ahhh:

I still need a program that will figure out what clothes go with what figures and generate a spreadsheet. :-S There's a nice C# coding project for me.. :-S

Note to KK, who EVER installed your Win7 OS to the new PC is to blame for your issues. The install was not DONE properly and thus has locked the Admin as a standard user account.

All Programs should and do install on a proper Win7 to one of two locations unless the user points the installer to a different folder
Program Files, which is the Default 64 bit location or
Program Files (x86), which is the Default 32 bit location.

My Documents has been the catch all folder for most programs for a long time. SketchUp defaulted to it, Wings 3D defaulted to it and many others I use as well. Just because you think it is not supposed to be that way does not mean it's not supposed to be that way. My Documents is the Documented MS proper folder to store any user content for a MS compliant program.

If I was in your position I would have the Win7 OS installed by a PC repair shop and EXPLAIN the reason WHY.

    Umm, whats going on here?

I have the DAZ 4.6 beta
Im using the dynamic clothing plugin that came with daz
All default settings on the sheet, no wind or moved dials.
It is set to Collide with All
And I started the drape way above the horns. The sheet just passed through the head and seemed to catch onto the eyes and the shoulders.

I tried something similar with a trex, and only half of the trex's face got covered. The left side reacted with the sheet, while the sheet passed through the right side.

Genesis works fine, although when it touches the bed it becomes really crinkled. Looks like the surface of a sponge when it hits the bed.

Subdivide any mesh that does not have a high enough mesh count for Dynamic collision's. The Dynamic controller can not calculate against low mesh items.

Omgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg 2-1/2 HOURS of installing content! :ahhh: :ahhh: :ahhh:

But it's done! :cheese: AllDaz metadata files I could find, Real MEtals, Bazaar 1, dynamic cloth control and dynamic stuff, and pw plugins all up and operational! Heh, heh, heh! Look out world! :snake: :vampire:

I'm liking 4.6 more and more, the more I use it. The UI is FAR better suited for a laptop than Posers. :blank:

Now to paste some tats on poor, unsuspecting Mike! :vampire: :vampire:

Well, I managed to redo the materials for Xurge's Enforcer outfit (the texture expansions) to where in DS3A it actually looks sort of like his promos. That was a lot of trial and error.

Hah... *ahem* and yeah it does appear to be a subdivision issue , like the others have mentioned. Not enough subdivisions and the cloth will be very crinkly and not smoothish.

As for passing through some body parts and not others, I have no idea. That rarely happens in C4D unless a Cloth Collider tag wasn't properly set up.

This too. The collider object (The dragon and bed in this case) needs to have enough subdivisions as well in most cases.

Third in order to do this, it would mean wiping everything from the drives to have Win7 reinstalled. This means nearly another two months installing everything and setting up my runtimes and libraries all over again, and having to rebuild all my characters from scratch (as well as losing all the scenes I am currently working on).

...that is making this look like a lost cause.

This means nearly another two months installing everything and setting up my runtimes and libraries all over again, and having to rebuild all my characters from scratch (as well as losing all the scenes I am currently working on).Nope, it means the OS can be installed to your drive but set up properly (might do a few file drops not already done but not enough to matter). Nothing would be lost except the Reg settings for the programs you have installed. A re-install fixes that, then MOVE all the content from the folders not allowed, and just point the programs to the proper folders. I have used Win7 re-install twice and never lost a thing. Now, all that said, if a real IT Tech looks at the PC and goes ???? you might be in deep do do.

I'm sorry if you see my posts as anything other than me wishing you had no problems. But that is all I want. I have never had the problem you have and I'm using the very same stuff. I want you to enjoy it as much as I do.

Hello! Still no idea how to work this blog thing, but giving it a try!

The subdivision makes sense, it needs more polygons to hit (if Im understanding this right).

Subdivide any mesh that does not have a high enough mesh count for Dynamic collision’s. The Dynamic controller can not calculate against low mesh items.

That makes sense, but what about the trex face? Only half of it caused of a collision.

I don’t know if it did work in 4.5. I got 4.6 a few days ago, and the dynamic sheet last night.

I hope I did these quote things right, wouldn't want to post three different posts when I can just do one...

...bah, all this has been one royal pain in the bum and I apologise.

I expected things to improve once the new system was finished. Apparently my ineptitude at configuring an OS has made a mess of something that I hoped would finally allow me to realise my ideas. When I checked a while back into having a fully tested professional install performed it really was more than I could afford (more than a good number of nights down at the corner gin joint). A co-worker took her system to one of those "inexpensive" shops, and they messed her system up worse than it was when she took it in.

There are others I know of who had similar situations occur while trying to save a few zlotys. No, "bargain basement" IT techs are a bad idea.

Reputable licenced shops charge, because they have more important corporate customers they work with rather than some old luddite who only wants to make pretty pictures on a computer.

I'm going try one manual uninstall and reinstall of both 3Advanced and 4.5, heck may as well install the newest update as several have said it was more stable than the current release version.
