Looks like the rain has mostly cleared up, so I should be in good shape for going home. :)

Either going to shop tomorrow or go out for wings and beer, if I shop, wings and beer on Sunday! :cheese:

After my b-day, it's time to sit n save - need to get a Core i7 box with a 17in screen, Poserizing on my little screen is a pain in the beck (literally). :blank: I guess I could get a micro-PC/keyboard/monitor and just sell the keyboard and monitor when I move, that might end up working out better than a laptop if I want to stick with doing 3D work. Hmmph.

Everything needs to fit in backpack + rolling duffel bag. I've seen some killer shoebox PCs that have 32G of RAM, an NVidia card, and a quad core i7! Not cheap, but nor is a killer laptop. Hmmph again.

Gotta save up for a trip to New Orleans as well! Never been, wanna goooooooooooooo!

Oh noes missed your birthday. Happy Birthday :) Have you seen the raspberry pi http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs ?

Nooooooooo, my b-day is May 20 - you have lots of time. :cheese:

    Barely awake.. needz coffeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..

ZOMG. o_O Now, on day four of the medswap, I'm actually feeling pretty damn great. Like, a manic upswing in energy. I found enough energy and initiative to do some baking without being prompted to do so and enjoyed it a lot! Wobblies are at minimum now. Having some trouble to sleep, so I'm tired, but I'm not perpetually exhausted.

...Nice, so how has 4.6 been treating you so far?

    Complaint:

Still experiencing stability issues with my install of 4.5.1.56 (freeze ups and crashes to the desktop) as it apparently placed some built in content (like all the Omnifreaker HSS, US, and UE stuff) in the Programmme FIles folder which in Win7 is not advised.

All that time and money to build a system with enough horsepower to get things running smoothly and I still feel like I'm on my old 32 bit system.

Since I see no other way of fixing this without uninstalling/reinstalling both versions and remapping all my directories again, Figuring I may just give 4.6 a try. Only hope it doesn't hose anything I'm currently working on.

    ...more mom's day complaints:

First, I think all packaging designers have something in for us arthritics and thus need to be drawn & quartered.

So often I need to get a scissors of knife to open even what they call "Easy Open" packages. Having no grip makes it very difficult to get any leverage, and often when said opening does give, the entire package rips completely apart spilling the contents all over (usually the floor). Just this morning I was about to make hotcakes. Opened the box and there was one of those nefarious sealed wax sacks inside with the tab long the side that "supposedly" should make it simply pop open with a slight pull. Well, tug on is as I may the sack remand sealed tight, until the tab tore down the side of the bag releasing most of the powdery mix into the carton itself. So had to go dig out a large plastic container to dump everything into from both what was left in the sack and what was in the bottom of the carton before I could even start brekkie today.

Next: Windows 7 setup. OK Win 8 is a garrish mess I never want to deal with, however as I recently discovered, Win7 has it's annoying quirks as well (one of which I mentioned above). My workstation is set up to log me on automatically at start up as I am the only one using it so there is no login password required. Now even though I have Administrator status, I find I am locked out of a number of folders that I should have access to. I never had this issue with XP on which I had the same startup setup. Now in XP critical functions are placed in "hidden folders". With admin status I was able to "unhide" and thus gain full access to them. In 7 I can unhide them, but unlike XP it places this little "lock" on the icon and when when I click it, I get an "Access Denied" warning.

...ummm, excuse me, this is my system, not the Lockheed Skunkworks, DARPA, or New Scotland Yard. I should have access to everything on it. Nothing in the control panel offers any insight on how to change this. I'm not even allowed to change permissions manually (even though I am shown as the system's administrator).

Almost makes me want to go online and look for a copy of XP Pro 64 and roll back to something I can understand and use (of course that would mean trashing everything I've done so far over these last several months and having to spend another couple setting everything up again).

Any suggestions for stuff to learn (or help learn) Flash?

    I did find these...

Unfortunately every book I find is out-of-date - usually by several years.

    Learn HTML5 instead. Really.

The main reason I'm poking around in Python at the moment... Well okay main reason(s) - plural - is (1) Becuase my Uncle who thankfully lives nearby has worked with python for over ten years and is pretty skilled with it. I can always come to him for some help (He doesn't have time to teach me like a classroom instructor would, but he does have time to assist), and (2) because Cinema 4D has Python scripting in it :3

I dunno what HTML5 even is of or if my Uncle has any experience with it (Never heard of it before), and if he doesn't then well I'd be on my own XD

"In 7 I can unhide them, but unlike XP it places this little “lock” on the icon and when when I click it, I get an “Access Denied” warning."
Huh... Never had that happen before =/
I do know there's this little lock thingy on one of my User folders, but it never gives me any warning. Well I think its a lock... Yeah just checked. It's a little lock o3o Only on my Users folder. None of the system folders has it, and I can open it - put stuff in - delete stuff - and etc without any problems. Dunno why it will for me but not for you =/

The only way in Win7 to not get a Admin prompt for Areas that require Admin to access is to set the Admins UAC to Never Notify. Please read what the settings are before you take this step.

...well for the first time in nearly two weeks there is water falling from the sky here. Nothing major, about enough to make drivers turn on their wipers at the "intermittent" setting and dampen the ground a bit. Still fairly mild.

Think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and call in an IT tech to fix my Win7 issues. I feel like I'm just spinning wheels and afraid to make matters even worse by changing the wrong setting. I don't know why they design this stuff this way. I mean if it is your own system, and you are recognised as the "administrator" there should be no question about permissions or access, you are "the boss". Simple

Why does "Simple" seem to be such a difficult concept to grasp in the software world today?

I've wasted more than a week dealing with this now and it is beginning to chafe my hide just a bit as it is also impacting my ability to work on my projects.

...ahh good, 4.6 has finished downloading.

...on my system that is set at the 2/3 position by default. The way this read to me was that it had more to do with programmes changing system settings (which would include Net operations - which is why I left it where it is since I occasionally need to go online to make periodic updates, as well as register new software and plugins) rather than anything to do with local user permissions or access. To me, this needed better explanation up front, not hidden somewhere in a poorly written "help" file.

Again software designers need to go back and learn what the "KISS" factor means and how to write in plain English when they document processes.

It handles both Notifying the Admin a area is protected and stopping Incursions on your PC by Malware. At full settings you must trust yourself and your AV and tools to keep your PC safe and clean.

XP did not have the YOU might need protected from yourself settings. MS added it to Win7 because people were changing things that crashed the OS.

...so "full" means having the slider at the bottom then.

I do have the complete Norton IS suite, though this is something I feel they should have kept as two different functions instead of rolling them into one. I'd feel better keeping the Net part of it cranked up high.

Sounds like MS doesn't want people running around with sharp pointy objects in their hands anymore. ;-)

Win7 and Win8 were written to protect stupid people from themselves. MS apparently also felt that 99.9% of users were in that category.
There is a serious need for an "I already know how to use a freaking computer" setting for those particular operating systems.

Not to interrupt, but can someone tell me why only like 5 electronics manufactures in the known galaxy can be bothered with putting their logo or name on a damn adapter pack? I have a box of like 50 adapters that I have no idea what the hell they go to... at this point I just wing it and go with output or device requirements... I have 5 adapters that are little works of modern art... or maybe they are tiny spaceships with extension cords, but whatever... they went through the trouble of making it look like it can fly or fight evil, but including a logo somewhere on the damn thing was too costly? Instead "Lèsè Electronics LTD- Zhengzhou, China - for indoor use only" gets all the credit, and I'm left wondering if it goes to the old router or the charger for my new disintegrator gun... Pfft... okay... I'm done... back to the thread.

Have the same problem - trying to keep track of which pack goes with which device >_<. I got the feeling it was because there is a single secret monopolistic power pack manufacturer out there somewhere, that absolutely _everybody_ has to get their power pack from... and so they don't get any custom labelling, just the generic "5V ∞Amps" (>_<).</p>

Yes, and obsolete and unfixable because Apple don't provide parts for it any more. Is only seven years old, product cycles are real short in the twenty first century

Python is a real useful programming language. Flash is an Adobe proprietary method for packaging multimedia files and interactions that is being replaced by the open standard HTML5, which does the same things in a more logically structured way :)
