What drives me craziest about NFL TV coverage is that the color and play-by-play announcers get so engrossed in talking about an offensive tackle's record in high school or some other stupid "Who cares?" level stuff during the game that they actually neglect 4-5 plays currently happening on the field!
Hey guys! There's a game going on, remember? Sheesh...

Well, that will be a nice warning. Just enough time for last minute debauchery...or going to church, whatever floats your boat.

...back in the 80s when the Nuclear clock started ticking closer to "midnight" I went to the local spirits outlet, purchased a case of assorted inebriants (well grade) and put them in a closet. Once the word that the missiles were about to fly was given, I was going to call several friends, grab the case, and we were going to head to Boeing Field and sit down on the shoulder of SW Marginal Drive, where I would proceed to hand each person a bottle of their favourite libation and give the command to start drinking. The idea was by the time the missiles reached us and detonated, we'd be so blotto we wouldn't notice.

    So not a survivalist.

    Complaint about the day:

Got up at 6:30am, made coffee as I ran a nice warm tub after a VERY too warm night. Soaked, shaved, dried and then made brekky, burned my last bit's of bacon answering the phone and assuring my brother that yes I was going to drive us to Winston County today for Decoration and the Family Reunion. Got feed up and just made a scrambled egg sandwich instead of the brekky I was looking forward to. My erstwhile brother and his daughter showed up fifteen minutes after the time I needed to leave for the two hour (was four hour until the new interstate opened, that helped). Got gas on my hands filling up the car for the drive up, so I smelled of gas for a long bit, that was pleasant. Jumped on the new Corridor X and drove like the Bat Out'a Heck we all hear about. Took the wrong exit and wound up in backwoods no place for about ten mins until a sign pointed me to the old way I used to go. Then I found X running right through town five mins up the road. Stupid signs. Got to the Decoration and visited all the lost Loved ones and wound up on my cane and feet for just over a hour. Pain moved in and the med's were not going to slow the dude down. Sat for 3 hours at the Reunion and made it home in one piece, Corridor X is wide open nuts (the other drivers think it's the Autobaun) at 65 mph all the way. It's seven hours after I got home, and Pain still will not get the idea his visit should be over.

Other than that it was nice to see the Family all in one place at one time again. It's my first trip after the Dialysis ended. I missed two years due to the D-Day sickness.

The farthest I've traveled by car is the Poconos in Pennsylvania. I live in southeastern Massachusetts, so that was quite a trip. We had RCI at the time and swapped to a timeshare down there. We've been to Lake Placid, New York. That one took a while. Stowe, Vermont; Killington, Vermont; Carribasset Valley, Maine; Bar Harbor, Maine; the Lake George area of New York, and several locations in New Hampshire (our favorite) in both the White Mountains area and the Lakes Region, quite a few times. We flew to Palm Springs, California, but that was not pleasure...I had to clean up my dad's property to get it ready to sell after he passed away. That was the only time I've flown. I almost broke Diane's hand. I don't care for public transportation. But even on a bus, you can usually see what's ahead, and know when there's a curve coming up. In a jet, you're blind. When it banks, it takes you by surprise. Well, it took me by surprise, anyway. I sat at the window and quite enjoyed the view, though. I even took a lot of video. I don't know if I'll ever fly again. It's expensive, and becomes more scary all the time.

...longest trip by auto: Southern Wisconsin (Milwaukee) to Central Kansas (Salina) in the end of summer 1972. 4 people, 2 door 69 Chevelle with a black leather top & black interior, 104° - 108° in Central Missouri. 702 miles one way, part of the trip on old Route 66 through Illinois.

Longest "uncool" bus trip: New Orleans LA to Milwaukee WI - 'nuff said.

Most scenic long bus trip, Portland Oregon to Humbolt County California. Once out of the city went through Oregon's "Wine Country", then old Hwy 101 along the Oregon and north California Coast, and to top it all off, through Redwood country to Arcata/Eureka.

Coolest long bus trip: Stevens Point WI to Colorado (Steamboat one year, Breckenridge the next). Bunch of college skiers on a chartered bus totally fired up for a week of "real" skiing on "real" mountains. Firkin and tap in the back...party time.

Most enjoyable long distance trip on the ground: The Coast Starlight between Seattle, Portland San Fransisco, and LA (several occasions). Sleeper car, special parlour car, lavish meals, incredible scenery, especially along the coast between SF and LA.

Longest ever (and most "eventful") trip on the ground: The Empire Builder between Lacrosse WI and Seattle WA. May 16th - 18th 1980. Incredible scenery 100°+ weather in the Dakotas, snow at the great divide, breathtaking views of the Snake River Canyon, late night card games in the club car, and nearly a ringside Seat for the Mt St Helens eruption.

Coolest flight ever: return trip from Hawai'i back in the 80s. Airline's computer network went down and in the process lost everyone's seat assignments, By the time thy got to me all that was left were seats in Business class, on a 747 (which back then were in the "penthouse"). Wined and dined all the way and had to go into a holding pattern for over an hour because Seattle was fogged in. "ahh, another single malt Scot's whiskey please, no ice".

Most terrifying trip ever: Flying from Milwaukee WI to New Orleans LA in the late 70s, Two enroute stops, the worst turbulence I ever experienced (landing in Pittsburgh), and nearly hit by jet landing behind us in Cleveland as we taxied what seemed to be an eternity on an active runway (only a month after those two 747s collided on the runway in the Canary Islands), "ahh attendant, better make that next one a triple please...no ice."

wow, didn't realize how long a trip across Australia would take. Maybe I'll fly into Sydney and take a train to Melbourne.

I know a friend who is moving from like Cincinnati Ohio to Phoenix, Arizona. He is driving on the interstate highway with his wife. Apparently, he has shipped all of his furniture and books. He already had a yard/garage sale.

I just checked the train schedule for Australia CountryLink train. The trip from Sydney to Melbourne will take 13 hours and cost about $120 AUD. wow. I didn't realize how far away Melbourne is from Sydney. When I look at a map, they don't look like they are far away.

Maybe I'm confusing Melbourne with Canberra.

ok, I better get ready for lunch now. later

The longest trip me and the wife took was 4,100 miles in 7 days. Yes, that is correct!

Starting from Kansas City, we through South Dakota and seen the Badlands, seen Mt. Rushmore, Devil's Tower in Wyoming, many things at Yellowstone Park, then went to Glacier Park in Montana, crossed into Canada and went to this place called Frank Slide where part of a mountain collapsed into a village, came back down through Idaho, then Utah, back through Wyoming, then our last stop before heading home was Estes Park in Colorado. I let my wife drive about 2 hours the entire trip. When I woke up after the two hours, she was going 90 MPH, so I took the wheel back. It was one of my most memorable vacations.

I would have given more details of all the beautiful things we seen, but didn't want to bore you.
