magaremoto, thanks for the great information.

One thing I'm a bit hazy on, is the AO. Do you use that in conjunction with the Skylight, or do you use that to generate an irradiance map and then use the irradiance map and full IL?

I also take it the volumetric dome encompasses the entire scene?

    you're welcome EP,
sky light is needed to bring both sky and dome colors on surfaces so that a face skin for example is less yellow and more pink; unbiased engines are great for that. As for AO is necessary to strenghten shadows washed by high values of ambient light and better shade the scene. I'd like to use IL but it's a bit 'lazy' in carrara.
Yes the dome is 12 km wide but if you plan to use clouds you can bring it down

Thanks for the information! Your method sounds ingenious. I'll have to experiment with it when I have the chance!

Just as a suggestion here, but have you considered approaching DAZ with your light rig to perhaps sell scene presets? I think there could be potential for it, if that is a direction you want to take. It is truly a unique method that I have not seen before.

maybe I could name it 2.5 physically based engine :cheese:
daz doesn't worry much about selling contents for Carrara imo and so rendo. Carrara can handle many many contents without crashing, and hair, and physics and instances and clouds and landscapes but shhh don't tell them

Dimension Theory used to make light domes and such for Carrara before he moved to produce more stuff for D|S. What can I say, they need the help. ;-)

This one looked better in my minds eye than it turned out. I think what throws it off is the lens flare. That and the bald spot on the hill.

This is a lighting experiment using Ring lighting.
I haven't used shape lights much, but I like the results in this case. I think it gives the effect of a cloudy bright day.
I used a ring light with soft shadows set for a 2ft radius. A Realistic Sky with 23% Skylight was also added via global illumination, but its effect is subtle. Ambient scene light is zero, and Gamma correction was set to 1.8 (which seems to help the lighting look more "real").
A small plane with a white glow channel was placed to provide a catchlight for the eyes.

I can't take any credit for the pose, it was one of the default poses that came with the character.
I did, however, alter the eye shaders to provide for an acceptable catchlight.
The set is made up of some planes and simple vertex objects.

Very nice effect. Love it! She's awfully cute too. What a great character, eh? Gotta love that 3d Universe!

ep, I think that shot with the Vanguard looks cool. If you would like to try a really cool, more subtle flare effect, try editing the flare you have on there, and go to streaks, halo, and reflections and set them all to "none". This will only leave the inner glow effect, which you can scale and tweak to your liking. Works great with starship engines and bright lights where you don't want the actual flaring of the lens added just yet (do that part in post).

Anyways, I like the sci-fi element in your natural environment. I enjoy trying that whenever I can, just to kick back and enjoy the stark contrast - without having to destroy our real beautiful planet to do so.

I actually have another angle that I prefer. I just need to dial back the 3D light sphere a bit.

I think that I may have to go back and save the settings for this hair. I wanted a wet hair look using Carrara's dynamic hair system. I've tried it in the past with not-so-great results, but I had a couple ideas that I wanted to try. I think it looks pretty good. I'll have to try with other hair styles to see how well it works.

Did you use the camera model in a replicator or as a particle in an emitter? Either way, nice and abstract!

    Thank you very much!
I used as a particle in an emitter,I used objects as the particle shape and added a camera model to the replicate list.

Great animation Dart! The movement is really nice. The gif doesn't do it justice I'm sure! Now you can use Dogwaffle to add in some dirt or turf flying up when the ship crashes!

    Exactly, on both counts.
But we can also add stuff using Carrara! Run this (well, the original) in the backdrop and run some more particles.
I was practicing with Howler 9.1 - what a freaking blast! Really fast working in there. For some things, like successfully making realistic animations on top of other animations, I still need to study a bit more. Philip knows this, so I think he's making some new tutorials to help. But he has plenty already - I just need to study/practice. Powerful stuff!

Nice, hard to do. She is a very cute character! Thanks Restif. I've been fiddling with her for several years. Not full time, mind you, LOL! But she's the super-hero version of my wife, and he's the super-hero version of me. We're the product of True Love, found on Earth - Truly! Since she's the true hero of my heart, she's whom I write about in my fantasy adventures.

nice work DB, very realistic and natural animations indeed. Why haven't you used physics for compenetrating hair? would be great if it could work

Remind me again about her hairstyle,as it looks familiar, did I ask this before?

Glad she had strong "tit-tape"....no slippage! Seriously, you are a cute couple!! :) :) :) :) ;) SileneUK

I haven't tried physics on conforming hair yet - but I've ran the process through my head a few times. Working on a totally new idea as well - just haven't started that project yet.

Yeah, I've gone into length a few times I'm sure ;)
It's Angelina Hair (SWAM, goldtassel) added three times. The first one I conformed to V4 and shaped it a little differently in the model room - made it a little longer and fuller - and then added a few of my own morphs. Then I saved that to the browser and loaded it again. Keeping the same morphs on target, I reshaped this one to go even longer and more full, then grabbed all of the loose detailing strands and mixed them about a bit to add more detailed variety, as there are only four, I believe. Then I added a third and went - you guessed it - longer and fuller. The problem I have now is that I did that long ago with much less patience for such things as I have now - so many of the most prominent curls are quite stretched beyond my liking.
Soon I will be continuing my efforts on making my own, my very first conforming hair, with animation, length and fullness designed right in.

Yeah, Rosie and I are quite the team. One of the local kids (now about to graduate college - my how time flies!) always called us "Those 'In-Love' people" because we're always so happy together, doing romantic things, and generally spoiling each other. Fifteen years of bliss, being married to her!

Actually, I've often wondered about the hair and outfits Dart uses for both Dartan and Rosie. I do love that animation too; it captures a great deal many things...the emotion and some nicely subtle motion with the clothing.

ROTFL! Alright, I didn't have a Carrara Content entry so I cannot suggest the next theme. But how about "Time Flies" as an idea? ;-)
