Why so many female content releases?

Though I am a total DAZ-aholic, lately I find it rather sad how much content in the store is all female characters and clothing.  Why such an inbalance?  Why not at least release counterpart clothing for the male characters too?  Often I see some really cool clothing items (especially what I would call the fantasy and sci-fi butt kicking woman category) and wish that there were an equal amount of male characters with cooler outfits or similar ones.

Sums up my buying habits. I purchase way more female content than mens. It's gotta suck for PAs that want to do more mens items and get less of a return on them.

I am constantly looking for male content and anytime I see a really great outfit for a female character I try to find a counterpart for the male ones and rarely can.  I don't know how hard it is for a PA to make a male version of a clothing item in the fantasy and sci-fi genres, but I think if you built it the users will come.

Gemini: That has not been PAs’ experiences.

It stinks when you aren’t the mainstream market, but we should be happy they still bother.

While some vendors at other stores have had other experiences selling male versions of similar content, it's generally as Will says, which is indeed unfortunate

Just speaking as a buyer, I very, very rarely use males in my renders.  And when I do they're typically either background, or expendable cannon fodder.  So I personally haven't had a need to get too much for males.

I too buy 90% male content. But I've gotten to the point where I just don't bother asking "where's the male version?" Because there really is no point. I buy the male stuff i want, and on all female content release days I save lots of money.

Unfortunately, it seems as though you and I and a few other forum denizens, are in the minority so, what can we do.

Yeah, no man at all ever in the whole world ever wanted to look nice, or well put together. But those silly vain ladies, all they think about is their appearence.

    HAHAHA! -_-

Kind of like the RED shirt security guys in TOS Srar Trek.

This probably has something to do with it too.  In addition to more women being rendered, there's more female clothing styles.

It's already part of my New Year's resolution, that if more male things don't show up, I won't be buying ANYTHING, which includes any new female things. Daz makes male figures and they should support those figures or  lose the support of people like those of us who do buy for the males. It's the only way I can vote...with my pocketbook ;).

  • Speaking for myself since I only use males in my work I love it when a vendor offers clothes or poses designed for males...  I charge card is always ready for quality male products.

Wow that sure contributed to an otherwise thoughtful conversation. HAHAHA!

My products are finely honed to work with both female AND male figures.

Heh, actually, exactly like the Redshirts :D  Or the bad guy of the hour, depending on the scene

That's not punishing DAZ, this is punishing the PAs for not making things that will lose them money. Keep in mind that DAZ has actually increased their male releases to about 1 or so a month rather than 1 every **few** months.  PAs aren't big companies to make loss-leader products, and some are living paycheck to paycheck.. so they need to make things that return on their investments. I doubt the claim of not buying anything because not many PAs are willing to lose money on products is a worthwhile strategy.

  • Not supporting a hugely gender-biased market is not "punishing" vendors. Vendors are not entitled to have people buy their female items. Or their male items. Or anything,

Well, then it is what it is. It's my money and I can do what I want with it, right? ;). I don't intend to "punish" anyone as you put it, but if nothing much is being made that I want anyway, then I wouldn't much buy it in the first place. It comes out exactly the same in the end. That and the fact that I have just about enough stuff already that I haven't used. I've sunk thousands into this hobby...if I can't get out of it what I want then the buck stops here ;).

  • What type of Male outfits would one want?

  • BTW G3 items released was 2.6 to 1 in favor of females. G2 was 2.5 to 1. G8, only counting items that appeared starting with M8's release is 2.5 to 1. Where is this massive improvement you are seeing?

Yes, it is what it is. But the majority of people that don't buy male content will take up that slack, so ultimately you're punishing yourself as well. I would like more items as well, but I try to support the products that are released when they are released. That's pretty much the way to keep the ones making content making it.

  • AllenArtAllenArt Posts: 7,169

Trust me, I'm not punishing myself. I have slews of content and other hobbies that would appreciate a few extra bucks. And there's more than enough people to take up the slack of what I won't be buying. I'm just a drop in the bucket so won't be missed. You're just preaching to the choir at this point ;).

Isn't it about time someone popped up with "you could always create your own clothing"?

    That’s a thought!

Modo Indie is $15/mo and you can do some great ‘draw geometry’ on a figure.

I haven't worked with G8M much (due to my difficulties fitting older content to G8F), but I've found with G3M, Wear Them All, & Fit Control, I have a lot of choices in menswear: M4/V4, Genesis, G2F/M, G3F/M. I am much more picky for males than for females because men's pants & shirts have to be much better constructed than a skintight female ensemble, and that demands a level of skill or attention that is (evidently) uncommon among PAs.

Buy all the Luthbel, Uzilite, Tannenbaum, & Halcyone menswear along with a few pieces from IHKang, and you'll have the foundation.

I got my copy of marvelous 7 that I need to start using. And I still got stuff from older generations I can bend to my will with the tools in DS, modo and zbrush.

Been my experience as well. Throw in a few good IRAY shader packs and I have a good foundation for mens wear

You can't blame PAs for making things that sell and not wanting to make things that don't sell as well. For instance (and this is just a hypothetical, of course) if a male outfit takes the same amount of time and energy to make as a female outfit and yet sells half as many - one can't blame a PA for producing things that will sell the most. We don't know exactly how much female content sells vs male content, but given what I've heard quite a few PAs say, it seems they do make less money making male content. There are some PAs who will keep making male content, regardless - and I'm glad we have them producing what they do.

PAs though have bills to pay, like the rest of us - so until more people start stepping up and buying the male content that does get made, you can't blame most PAs for doing what pays the bills. :)
