i was gonna guess Sneezy was the one with the red nose, but ...

You noticed that, too, huh? :D I think they're a bunch of boozers!

Kilometer-long pike, now with undersea background!

Next up - creating a water plane for it to rise out of. Urgh. Something to work on while I do laundry, I guess.

Looks more like its a few meters long, given some of the props there :)

Yeah, it was a quick test mainly to see how it's come out. The next one will show the size of the thing better...!

Very slow render- used a Gemologica gem material for the water plane, looks cool but so not fast to render.

But it doesn't matter because I HAVE PIZZA AND WINGS! I ordered some lemon-pepper wings and a box of the new Pizza Hut Flatbread Pizzas, and they are pretty darn tasty! Almost no crust so pretty low-ish carb, you can clearly taste each topping too.. and there's enough for 3 more meals!! Comes out to a little over $3.50 a meal not a bad deal at all.

Watching this render is like watching paint dry, only without getting high on the fumes (blank face)

the G2 in thread titles is throwing me for a headspin. it used to mean Simon and Sydney.

hmm, never tried Koji in DS. he should work, was a for p7 figure.

    Sheesh...
    OK, time for:
    7 Dwarfs 101

In this pic they all exhibit characteristics or expressions which embody their names (except for Sneezy, who can be determined by the process of elimination) Hey, you two in the back; stop talking! I'm only going to cover this material once, and it will be on the final.
    From left to right:
    1. Doc. Obviously the smartest of the group, because he's wearing glasses.
    2. Sneezy. Since he's not sneezing, you can determine his name by the aforementioned process of elimination.
    3. Happy. Some others are smiling widely, but they have other factors that reveal more about their names.
    4. Bashful. He looks very shy, doesn't he?
    5. Dopey. The only one without a beard. He is given away by his big ears (like me).
    6. Sleepy. The one with sleepy eyes.
    7. Grumpy. The grumpy-looking one.

Ok, added a boat to the scene, not a Viling longship (apparently I don't have one) but an Egyptian equivalent. They're rowing as fast as they can to get away!

This render will take an hour, I swear.

And yes, pizza and wings smells way better than paint but the fumes don't get me high (heh). Taking care of that with a vodka and diet Coke! (evil grin)

@Kyoto: The way to store deviations is: Submit -> Manage Deviations. Then you can check stuff and send it to storage or make it public.

As for the hacking thing, there's numerous reasons. One of the most common is "Just to show I can" or "For amusement", the same way little kids throw rocks at frogs and toss snails into the air to watch 'em smack the ground - because seeing suffering from something that can't retaliate is fun to them.

Doing it as a "Prank" often comes up.

...this is a bit more serious as it is messing with copyrighted material. The only thing this proves to me is they have a serious self esteem issue and feel the only way to feel better about themselves is make someone else's life miserable.

The sad part I recently submitted Learning How to Fly to the Daz Creative Contests June submissions and moved a bunch of stuff to the new Formidable Females gallery.

Thank you for the tip on the storage thing. Does that kill all the comments, views, and group submissions or are those still preserved?

...I have the original (got her just before she was vaulted during a PC sale).

OK, now I guess I need to do an "original" Aiko drop.

Yeah, I thought the same thing about the use of "G2" as well. G2F is even funnier as it sounds to me like a Government Service grade.

oh yeah ... the vault stuff.

so far i've browsed 840 pc items. seeing stuff from the old freebie archive.

not positive, but i think all the BRC prefixed might be the "black rose collection"

Ok, the water plane is too even and I need to do a displacement map, hopefully procedural, but for how here's the dang Kilometer Long Pike in better perspective! The boat is an Egyptian barge becasue I can't find the Viking longship I bought, but it will be replaced int he final image (and there will be several for the "pike" to destroy).

Tangentially Wooly... take a look at the video on this page:

    http://www.blendernation.com/2013/06/22/waterunderwater-sky-shader

... that's generated in real-time apparently O.O. It'd be amazing if we could get that shader logic into DS...

Pretty fearsome! Cool sky color reflected in the water, too!

Well, most NVidia and AMD GPUs have several CUDA-capable cores.. and for some *not all* scenarios you can get a good realtime render, not for my work because I have a lot of post-processing involving depth fog with translucency not supported in CUDA :S

    Give it time. :)

That stretched the render time way out, but the realism was worth it - it's just an illustration for a mock epic poem but the image needs to sell itself. A nice procedural displacement on the ocean surface and 3-4 ore ships and Olaf is in business :D:D

That is one scary kilometer long pike man. (horrified face) It's gonna eat that ship liek a little kid eats popcorn!!!!!! (cry cry cry)

Hey hey, no need for _that_ much angst <(^_^)... I believe there are one or two decent "ocean waves"-type products in the DAZ store and elsewhere, that might produce a sufficient backdrop for what you need -- with a kilometre long Pike front-and-centre, the quality of the caustics on the waves probably isn't quite as critical as a closeup of NVIAB paddling about ;-).</p>

(glad I was right about the original home of that Elasmosaurus btw ^_^).

I might need to delay this until the next week's heatwave is over. :/

You might want to check out SickleYield's conversion of SpaceBones Liquid at ShareCG (http://www.sharecg.com/v/68701/browse/21/DAZ-Studio/SpaceBones-Liquid-Converted-For-DS4.5). A starting point for your experiments.

...do you have any extra fans you can aim at the main box?

What I used to do with my notebook on hot days was take a hard polished plank place that on the desk then place two blocks on which I would set it and the cooling pad. I'd then take my pedistal fan and aim it at one of the open sides. This created a nice "flow through" air channel which during rendering, reduced the average CPU temps by 12 - 15C (I would constantly monitor the temps using CPUid).

My desktop is already open from the side that can be opened. :/

I'm gonna try this with Reality/LuxRender & Luxus/LuxRender next. For some reason they seem to cause less heating than default... But of course, since I'm unfamiliar (still) with both of them, this is gonna get funky.
