Hey, they look  like GITS homage, too <3 though robots as not mechas, but adorable

Would fit nice stories about "Mechanics"

The Tachicoma in the GITS/SAC animated series are about my favorite robots.  The fact that they are both robots and mecha (with a pilot compartment) is pretty unique.  The depiction of their "awakening" to become sentient AI's was, I think, very well done.   It was not until the second time through the series that I realized that the crude "Tachicoma-kun" cartoons in the credits were actually important to understanding what happened - it finally dawned on me - they are children, learning to interact and become individuals.  That is what those stick-figure cartoons are showing. I also then picked up the intial event that helped trigger the Tachicoma to fission into separate AI personalities.

Out of curiousity, what are your thoughts on these?

I was really happy with the way they turned out, and there's some obvious anime and mecha influence, but unfortunately the market did not care for them.

I saw them when they came out.  They are intersting but not what I'm looking for right now.

I really liked them, but they don't fit my normal style, and they hit at a time where I was having to be very careful with my budget, so I wasn't able to get them when they released.  I've kept them at the back of my mind though, and will probably wind up getting them eventually.  Of that style, (what I tend to think of as Dieselpunk), I think they are hands down the best I've seen so far.

  • Thanks for the feedback, folks, I do appreciate it.  I had another mecha in progress that was inspired by the Idelian Cangrid Harbla scouts from Dorvack.  I've never actually seen that anime; it was solely a nostalgia thing because the very first model kit I remember getting when I was little was one of these.  I put that on the back burner for now, but it's definitely still in the to-do list, even if it just ends up being a "for fun" product.  I had the cockpit, pilot's seat, and legs finished but still had to do some chassis work and weaponry.

comes with 9 Daz Studio materials, so I've jus applied iray Uber shader to the mats and rendered in iray.

Also keeping an eye on those tokusatsu/super sentai heroes

    https://www.daz3d.com/zero-my-hero-for-genesis-3-female-s

    https://www.daz3d.com/regal-star-lance-outfit-for-genesis-8-males

One of my fav tv shows (just 6 episodes or so, though) from early 00s (of course i watched it years later though - in youth i only could watch Power Rangers), Giant Robo Mikazuki, combined nearly everything and managed to do it good... It had "super robot" mechas (retro vintage mechas controlled by psychic power of brain), it had more "technical engineering" mechs (with pilots inside cabins and all that gears and fuel stuff) , it had sentai heroes and antiheroes, it had kaijus (including famous WATERMELON godzilla-like) and more. And even managed to had decent plot to back up all this variety.

Fun fact for gamers: there was a demo/prototype of official videogame for it, which was kind of cancelled, but developers made their own thing based on that (called Gigantic Drive aka Robot Alchemic Drive), those developers also made some more mecha games, but their most popular franchise is Earth Defense Force series, which has references to more things (1960s trash movies [yeah giant ants and ufos], kaiju, mecha [you can punch godzilla right in face with mecha, haahaha], anything..).

tkdrobert, another question i wanted to make clear. Do you know which models can transform aside from those at Vanishing Point?

The ones at Vanishing Point are the only ones I know of that Transform.

Ah!  I still have many of those wonderful old Dorvack models.  Never finished one yet, but they are on the retirement projects list.

    Gundam by tkdrobert

The Gundam is an XPS model courtesy of grazekai. I posed it in XNALara then exported it out.  Imported into Daz3D and rendered it in 3Delight using pwToon and LineRender9000.  Post-work done in Clip Paint Studio (Manga 5) and Photoshop.

I doubt we'll ever see Gundam in the Daz store because of copywrite and market demand, so this is the next best thing.

Does the outline and some shadow work.

Another XPS model rendered in DAZ.  Planets were also rendered in DAZ.

I finally got the stealth mech.  It has a lot of petencial if you're willing to play with it.  The wings, gun, and sword did not come with it.  The gun in the promo pics does not come with it.  It has some basic poses.  Most M4 poses work with it but require adjustments.  I will probably try and add some Dzfire greebles to is at some point to see what I can create.

I finally broke down and got the Ultimate Modular Mecha Kit.  It's not bad.  Here are two quick IRAY renders I did.  I'll probaby use these more for Toon renders.  In the 2nd render, the helmet was kit-bashed, it doesn't come with the kit.

Still working on a toon render containing a mech from the Ultimate Modular Mecha Kit.  In the mean time, has anyone picked up The Cosmic Knight (https://www.daz3d.com/the-cosmic-knight)?

If so I'd appreciate some example renders, especially toon renders.  Thanks.

I almost baught this guy earlier in the week.  I think he could work with some good armor peices  My best armor peices are all M4 and they don't always convert over well to G8M.

I don’t think there are any mechs in the Daz store that I haven’t seen, including that one.

I used a combination of Visual Style Shaders and PWToon.  I tweaked the Vibrance, Saturation, Brightness, and Contrast in Photoshop.  For the line-work I used LineRender9000, but had to touch it up quite a bit in Clip Paint Studio.

Since you are into kitbashing, there is something that you might be interested in. It is for V4 and the V4 bodysuit, but the armour pieces are just props that get parented to the suit, so they can be loaded as individual standalone pieces. Maybe worth a look.

His links are no longer good.

Not the links to his blog site, perhaps, where there is/was more content, but the download link on ShareCG that I gave the url for should work. That is hosted on the ShareCG servers. (I just tried it and it worked fine). I haven't used his blog site (nor has he) in some time, so those links may indeed be dead.
