And I finally finished my Dolls Gone Wild render which has an insane amount of Genesis BJDs and other characters :-P

I noticed the characters in the background have stripes on their limbs which aren't there when the shot is closer though :-S :shut:

Ha! very cool. Nice job with the expression on the doll up front in the polka dot bikini.

Saw this thread pop up again this morning and remembered my image I did back in Oct. with the ball joint doll.
It could be a Christmas image as well though.

    What's This!?

Thank you so much, Davage; the dolls in front are inspired by my brother's adorable twins; I'd done an earlier render based on them

I'd grab the Genesis ones again too, for the torso update.

just out of curiousity, did the updates go through for the products? I never saw an update in my DIM so was wondering. I'm about to grab the one for Gen2F now as I only had the genesis version. :D

Any plans of doing a g2m version?

Probably not. DAZ doesn't really like us doing updates to products that have been out this long, and the torso update I did just seems to have fallen through the cracks.

Here's a patch incorporating both the torso ball update (allowing you to apply torso textures to the ball joints) and a Cross-Figure and morph conversion patch for using it on G2M. The textures already worked on G2M. Feel free to repeat/pass the link on, it won't work without the G2F product. You will need to properly copy the files from inside the Content folder since it can't be used with DIM, but it should work.

Awesome, thank you for that it made it an instant buy, now to figure out how to use it had weird results first few tries

So after playing and trials, here's my first render.

  • I haven't played with my BJD for a while, so I was experimenting with different presets.  I applied the base SSS materials, but when I attempted to add any eyebrow, the face disappeared!  I can get the face back by re-applying the base or by using a makeup preset.  Has something changed in the newer versions of DAZ Studio that would affect this?  I don't think I ever saw anything like this back when I used DS 4.6.

The eyebrows are a separate mesh piece, so the reason the face disappears is that DAZ is trying to apply an eyebrow texture to the Genesis face mesh.  As a result, most of the face is transmapped out.  To apply the eyebrow presets, you need to first select Genesis or Genesis 2, then load the eyebrow mesh.   Then select the eyebrow mesh and load the eyebrow material.  Hope that helps!

Ok, thanks!  That makes sense.  I guess I just didn't remember that some eyebrows are more than simply materials.

So now i have BJD for G1. Ok, here is a quick idea that came out randomly:

"Don't Leave Your Toys In Room (At Night)"

    p.s.

Actually there are quite a few companies that sell ball jointed dolls. It's another very expensive hobby
One of the biggest companies: http://www.eluts.com/index.php

That's right.:). In the USA you can buy some cheaper bjds off the shelf, too, such as the Monster High dolls. They are not as durable or quality but are much cheaper and still customizable in some ways.

I think, ball jointed dolls subculture ended up being one of those fields, where nowodays it's focused at works by enthusiastic artists and DIY creators rather than companies. I always see all those exhibitions in cities where you can see BJDs and dolls created by indiependant authors/artisans, and i encountered some blogs and/or instagram channels by those who create such bjds, showing all the process.

Such sitiation is similar with guitar pedals or synthesizers, for examples. So called "boutique" authors create handmade instruments.
