Nice renders. In the second render, Dawn has an orange tint. Thanks for posting the render.
I'll reinstall Dawn after I get my new computer. Then I can play with the lights, shadows and EHSS. I guess Dawn needs good lighting or else her face looks weird. Actually, I have the same issue with older skin textures. I'll go visit the HiveWire forums to look at more renders of Dawn.
I was trying to get my head around lighting thus the strange coloring of the scene. I have others but didn't know exactly where I put them on the desktop folders. I have so many project folders going right now.
Dawn's face is nice face, it's really skin that helps. There are some great packs out there. SAV over at Renderosity offered a nice package for Dawn and then a follow up package (If your a Prime member it's cheap, if not it's not overly expensive but it really fleshes out (LOL) what the base can do....... Virtual World also has released two 1/2 packs for Dawn and they are spectacular. Mec4D has released a base package for her as well. RAWN has released an African pack, no makeups though but very nice skin. There are some freebies out there as well. Plenty of paid for and free morph support out there for her too. She may never be as popular as Genesis but she's a nice mesh to work with in MY opinion!
I too figured out years ago I'm not DAZ's optimal customer. I reached a point where I couldn't see a reason to purchase a product just because it was another new shiney ting ... that looked a lot like the last new shiney ting. When money doesn't stretch as far as it once did (and your runtime is measured in gigs), a product needs to have something more than just being new.
Right now, I limit myself primarily to the $1.99 PC (Poser core) products here. Hivewire, RDNA, and Renderosity get the bulk of my 3D budget now. My biggest expenses though are tutorials, followed by material sets. Dawn has given me the incentive to get serious about creating clothing.
I agree. I was excited when she first came out and was DAZ friendly.... but not versatile at all, especially since most support products coming out are for Poser, which I don't use. Dawn is a throw-back and not nearly as natural as the Genesis figures...and to me, kind of boring! I tried her a couple of times, but was disappointed. Maybe she's just more of a Poser gal! I'm loving Gen1 and Gen2......In other words, you're not alone! :-)
Yet another thread which does not show up in my mailbox - while I waited for a response, the postings went on. I wish I could understand what I'm doing wrong, what I need to do MORE than toggling "notify me via...."
But I digress - I actually like Dawn's chin and cheek, makes her look less Scandinavian and thus adding diversity to my runtime. But someone mentioned that it was possible to fit the Gen4 (V4/A4) clothes to her. What do I need to aquire that? I tried the other day to fit her into a pair of V4 jeans, but no matter what I did, they ended up too tight around her waist and tights and not comforming when bending, which made the shins of the pants ending up outside Dawn's legs.
Did you make a clone for V4?

Thanks, I might give that a try, see if it works. And if I can still bend and pose the characters without being back in sq 1
I have to ask. Versatility of Genesis as how? The only versatility I see is gender switching creatures easily. The issue previously with gen1 was it wasn't as easy to make a male masculine and female feminine enough (...). And I think my G2 men look better in them than my G1s (Though I guess that remains to be seen) ;).
I agree Gen2M USUALLY makes nicer men than Genesis. However, Genesis has that awesome ability to mix-and-match your morphs, which is essential for a person that enjoys making custom-dialed characters. I admit that my Mayflower morph I am very happy with utilises a lot of male morph targets, mainly from Thorne's resource kits, although it also has a bit (less than 1%) of Raiya's Jaime. What makes me feel Genesis is superior for my own needs? Three facts which Dawn lacks:
- a great array of opportunities to mix-and-match dials to make my own characters,
- child and teen support if you agree to make them yourself,
- rather easy way to use most hairs and clothes on various shapes.
I have yet to see if the update for Dawn changes something drastically.
PS On a general note, I am impressed to see how well Raiya's adult characters turn into teenagers when you dial up full Julie or Justin. This vendor could benefit from including such simple younger preset, don't you think?
eh... not really. Really making teens requires custom work after the fact, just dialing a teen in just makes a him/her have odd features, like an elderly teen.

I guess I'm just lucky then. I didn't fiddle much in the presets, but what I got was a really decent thing, I was very surprised to see that it worked. I was seriously worried that they'd be deformed and so, but those I changed into teens (Neo, Xiao Wen, Candance and Olivia) look good. It may have something to do with the fact they have African and Asian features, which may just translate well. For me, it is more than enough to see they work for my pictures. There is a constant lack of teen characters and even if you find one, it's a white character. I want variety :).

I look at facial features and bodies way too much now.

Why do you think so? I think you just want to give your customers the best products they can get and that's why you're worried about the shapes. It's actually a great thing for a vendor to do, just don't go perfectionist or you may overwork yourself! :)
If you want, I can show you the renders. But this would probably require a different thread so that there won't be a different topic going on. Let's give that Dawn some room ;).
I certainly love Dawn. I have not found her to be limited with morphing. I think that like any new figure, it takes a little practice to get the look that you like with the available tools. This render was done by my daughter using simple spin dials.
Nice render. I like the eyeliner around the eyes. The skin tones don't look flat like it does in my renders. :)
I know, she is a wiz with lighting. Also that character uses SSS so I think that makes the skin nicer. She rendered this in Poser 10, but I have found that lighting more than anything makes a difference no matter what program is being used.
Very nice render and pretty character morph!
AetherDream, congratulate your daughter. She could certainly try her luck in one of Dawn-related contests.
Yes she is a lovely character morph. Her large round-eyed look reminds me a lot of Thorne and Sarsa's ladies.
Did she create her own lighting, or did she use a specific Poser lighting pack she purchased? I always hated lighting a scene back when I was using Poser 5, and since using DS all these years and learning more about lighting in that app, I didn't want to have to start over again when I got back into Poser with version 9, so I've had to depend on a couple of nice light packs for Poser.
I found my old render of Dawn if anyone wants to look at it: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/515371/
I didn't use any fancy lighting. I think the shader rate was set to 0.3 or 0.5. I forgot.
Like I said before, I'll render Dawn again after I get the dual-core Pentium.
Na ... I am talking about this:

and you don't have to buy it.
It's free.
*grin*
Have fun!

What I find interesting is that suddenly RDNA claims to have no products from any vendor named AlphaseeD. Another name change? Or trouble on the horizon?
Q: AlfaseeD?
A: Aeon Soul
Name change only apparently.
I'd love to say something fair and balanced about the girl, but I'm but I'm totally FOX News for Genesis. :)
They change their name more often than most people change cars...
I think they've gone through 4 or 5 name changes in the past 10 yrs or so...maybe that's why everyone just calls them AS?
I hate when vendors change names. Makes to many things more confusing then they have to be
Awful Soul, Aery Soul, AlfaSeed and now Aeon Seed. Did I miss any?
Aeon--Soul not Aeon Seed.
That'll probably be next. Give it a couple years...
She actually favors Fabiana's FK lights Mild Boreal and lighting packages that come with DM products for most of her scenes. I have kind of taken to doing the same. The Fk lights work really well for close-up images like the one she did. A little tweaking is sometimes needed depending on how you have set up your scene.
As-Shanim?

And apparently Aery Sense at one (evidently brief) period.
