I wonder if the people working at the offices of Daz 3D are used to the heat. Well, they are inside an air conditioned office for about eight hours.

edit: the weekend looks kinda hot to be hanging outside.

They say a dry heat don't feel it as much.

    Blender $0 ;-)

Modelling? check. Texturing? check. Sculpting? check. Rigging? check. (not quite sure what's funky about armatures, shape keys, constraints...). Animating? check. Compositing? check. COLLADA export? check. FBX export (as noted above) - present, though about to be improved (with a bit of luck). Cycles baking and volumetrics? check :D.

    Movies - http://www.blender.org/features/projects/
    Demo reels - http://www.blender.org/features/demo-reels/
... and a whole pile of videos of varying quality on youtube ;-).

For Misty, in this mid-to-high level tutorial video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXjG8jEa9SI ... around +23:30, the human ear is sculpted (no way I can do things like that, although I understand the theory... X).

oh! thanks, i'll try to absorb it over the weekend :)

...OK ran the memory check from the Administrative Tools and no issues found. So it leaves me to wonder about the GPU.

I'm taking an unofficial break, usually lunch on mondays but food is tastier when I'm not so burned out

Got to see Dad, biopsy on the lymph nodes came back clean, so what ever the lump is, it hadn't spread. So there should be no chemo necessary. Thank God, things look to be going alright for him. He's in a lot of pain, as to be expected, and is to be the ICU for the next five days at least.

    Great news (except the pain)!

complaint: I'm not sure where this "quick search" function came from. Ick.. I don't think I installed any new addons into Google Chrome.

Leather is so much nicer! I never knew that until I got my first leather seats in my Camry. They don't get as hot as vinyl, nor as cold in the winter. And they warm up quicker in the winter, too. Of course, I also have heated seats, so they warm up even quicker.

*eep* I did say it was a "mid-to-high level" tutorial; unless you have a personality that prefers to dive in the deep end, you might want to start out with something a bit simpler first. Alternatively, just view it as an example by a Master of the procedure of preparing the shape of human anatomy - the same fundamentals can be applied to Sculptris, or 3DCoat, or zbrush or voxel modeller of your choice ^_^. It certainly makes me appreciate the convenience of A3 / V4 / Genesis / G2 and how spoiled we are with DS :).

Complaint: FastGrab is not what it used to be. And there are things in there tonight that aren't even discounted! Soo Jin, Maname, Sayaka...all at full price! $14.95 Two others at the top of the list, too. Somebody doesn't understand the FastGrab pricing concept.

...looks like someone forgot to activate the 70% discount. Will check in the morning as these things happen.

    Lots of talky talk!

Mm, I'm probably very late on this discussion but here's my insignificant two cents:

    Blender can do the following:
    *Rigging
    *sculpting
    *Game engine built-in
    *Dynamics
    *Particles
    *Modeling
    *Moar

Basically, it does everything every other program does. :)

IIRC, it has a Vray plugin as well, though I don't know much about it. The relatively cheaper Indigo Render has a large Blender subforum on their site (And is unbiased while Vray is biased. This only really matters if you want a render engine that's the closest thing you can get to a "Make Art" button and/or demand utmost accuracy with rendering)

Cinema 4D has an annual payment option (MSA) that is significantly cheaper than the full version, and as far as I can tell there's no real difference between the two. It automatically renews until canceled, and canceling it or failing to pay it doesn't "lock you out" of your program. Studio is around $320 or so with the MSA.

They also offer a (slight) discount to owners of Carrara Pro (but not DAZ Studio or Bryce) for purchasing it for the first time. They had a 50% discount sale some time back and that's when I first got my Cinema :)

Lightwave doesn't have any confusing 'bundles' or editions to choose from and is cheaper than C4D, and comes with all the dynamics and stuff from the get go. It doesn't have as many supported external renderers as far as I know (The Indigo exporter got dropped due to lack of interest IIRC).

...I've been at this for seven years and still have not learned squat about modelling (mainly because Hexagon is so unstable, comprehending Blender's UI is like trying to solve Pi to the last decimal point, and I cannot afford Modo or 3DS).

Amazon.com has some books on modeling.

That first one is about fashion modeling, not 3D digital modeling! :)

    Dana

Fashion models make more money. lol

I don't have the body for fashion modeling any more! *cry* I stick to 3D now... :red:

I used to have a body for fashion modeling...

... but I had to give up and finally bury it when I moved!

LW comes with next to no presets, is all roll your own but the renderer is real flexible. ppl use Octane and KRay for unbiased renders, Arnold by Solid Angle is getting a good run but the LW ray tracer is real quick so it gets a lot of production use :)

    Complaints!

    - Only $40 of content money for the next 2 weeks
    - Vue is too slow on my current laptop to be usable
    - Need $1500 for decent 3D laptop
    - Weird urge for fried chicken for lunch
    - Want vodka, nearest booze store is 10 miles from home
    - Going to be in the 100s all weekend, hiding indoors
    - No spare money, next 2 checks pay the bills

    Non-complaints!

    - At least I have SOME content money
    - Hot Nicaraguan blend coffee!
    - Ham and bacon sammich for brekkie!
    - Fat food place nearby has fried chicken on Fridays
    - Almost all my Rendo content re-downloaded

I think I need to spend time with Wings, playing with fish. Maybe like Emperor Ken does birds, and Stonemason does buildings, I'll try to become a FISH expert! :bug:

Sigh, bought G2F morph bundle and the snapping turtle. Broke now.

*edit* Got "slaying the dragon" bundle for FREE! Lots of shiny pointy things for Vicky to pokeMike with!!! :snake:

mann, using it was a totally different thing. lumpy ashtrays, just like grade school crafts class.

I'm probably going to end up with LW.. I've used LW in the past, the renderer is fast and clean, Modeler doesn't make me want to puke and the various effects are great out of the box.

My other option is just to do the Wings/DS thing, work on Webcomics for personal fun, and not worry any more. Just make FISH!

Fishie fishie fishie fishieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :red: :red:
