I'm home from seeing Dad. He's doing fine, though he's not going home tomorrow like he hoped. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday.

It's hotter than the apocalypse outside right now. Go outside and insta-melt, it feels like. That is my complaint. No chance of rain this week at all. T_T

Came home from visiting Dad to see a itty bitty gecko running down the hall. I tried to catch the little guy so I can put him back outside but he scurried under a large antique ice box. No way am I moving that sucker to get a tiny lizard; I'm worried that would hurt him. So for now, he's in hiding. Hopefully, the dog leaves it alone. Think this is the first time a lizard has been in the house since we got her, so I don't know how she'd react.

Also, Gecko, tell your little associate to slip out of the house before the dog finds him.

we are notoriously independent (and by that I mean stubborn and don't listen), not to mention curious (especially if there is cuteness around)... so I imagine he won't leave willingly until he gets good and bored!!

... most of us ARE, however, good with/avoiding dogs - it is cats that do us in! Sneaky, trisky things...

And I never did like the 'official' category system. And part of it is the 'what happens if something goes wrong?' If I'm downloading and testing one item at a time, I KNOW where the problem is. If a bulk system is doing it, I might not figure out what went wrong, or even that something DID go wrong.

    DITTO!

the Official (much less 'default') sorting leaves... well... a couple of galaxies to be desired! I want something that - if I am not sure what I am looking for (I want Vicky in a skirt... WHICH one I am not sure) or for something in general but don't remember if I have a certain thing I want my library/Runtime organized where I will *still* find my content!!!

For example, with the 'skirt' - the way I have my library set up:

Figures (because I want a conforming)
-> People (I am looking for something a person would wear)
    --> Clothing (ah-ha! Yes, clothing)
---> V4 (since she is the streaker I am trying to clothe)
----> Skirts & Tops (because I am looking for a skirt, and most came with a top)
    ----->

(browse... browse...) hey! that one is what I am imagining!
** note, even if I forgot I had a product or not sure, I will still find it this way

now for textures - and I have the Pose (and working on Materials) set up the *EXACT* same order so I can go directly to it!

... defaults and 'officials' I have to SOMEHOW remember which vendor made skirts (yeah - right!) and browse ALL their folders + the DAZ folder + the few obscure product named folders to *hopefully* stumble across something that will work!

... oh, and let us not forget all the slightly misnamed variations!!! :grrr:

Oh, you want a TEXTURE for that?!?! ok, start the process over, because we didn't use the same naming convention in the other areas!!! (often not even close)

yeah, takes a while to set it up originally... and you have to manually install EVERYTHING - but it saves soooooooooooo much time!

Now, if I could only find a program (or magically code it myself) that would go through my library, open the .cr2 / .pp2 / .duf / etc. files, find the required associated files (textures, geometry, etc.), and rebuild my support folders (textures, geometries, etc.) in the same order, then save the original file with the updated locations, I would be soooo happy! No, not ocd - I want the system to run faster, and having umpteen THOUSAND folders in the same folder is 'pouring sugar in the gas tank'!! Yes, I know modern tech drives and OS's no longer crash when you do that - that doesn't mean that they run well just because they don't die immediately!

So I take it flopping is faking a foul, falling down for no real reason?

Disgraceful! There is no longer any sport in sports.

    Dana

...yep, In the Croatia - Mexico match one of Mexico's star players literally did a head over heels acrobatic flip after what was incidental contact as both he and a Croatian player were going for the ball. The Croatian player received a red card out of the deal.

...almost makes pro wrestling seem like a real sport.

The NBA at least made an attempt (a feeble as it is) to penalise players who flop to get foul calls by fining them 5,000$ per incident. Of course, compared to what most of those guys get paid, it would be like you or I dropping a quarter on the sidewalk.

Yeah, big money has basically taken the "sport" out of sports. Even the Olympics are not what they use to be.

yeah, saw a great post on the subject a while back:

Soccer is 50 minutes pretending that you're hurt...

Rugby is 40 minutes pretending that you're NOT hurt!

(my sister was a rugby player so her and her best friend are a bit biased!)

    Complaints:

fell this weekend... getting to the age where it starts to *hurt* all over when I do that.
    - was looking for the wasp/yellow jacket nest where my sweetie got stung so we can poison it. Found it, and as I began to run and make the turn for the house (because you KNOW you never see them until they swarm up), I suddenly remembered why athletes who run on grass wear cleats as my feet slide out from under me and I slam into the ground. Managed not to get stung (I think they lost sight of me when I unexpectedly dropped), so it is still a positive from that aspect!

headache all last night and much of today - not *bad*, just low-grade and persistent. no sleep

still grumpy about the Transformers movie (went and saw it a week ago) - the studio should hire an burly assistant to knock the cocaine out of Michael Bay's hands any time he is working on a project!! That and pay his dealer NOT to sell to him... maybe then he could turn out something that did NOT **** the sweat off a ******'s rancid ***** after an afternoon at the races!! I understand when things happen... I understand when it is 'targeted' to a different group... but when it is just needlessly BAD in /facepalm inducing ways there really is no excuse!! Other than budget, he is starting to give Ewe Bolle a run for his money!

    and my shoulder still hurts...

...the only issue with reinstalling/renaming things to categorise them better is that any scenes still in progress will end up with broken path errors when you open them.

Of course, when the hard drive you had everything on falls on the floor, it makes for an excellent opportunity to reorganize... since your scene files are gone anyway.

...unless you are extremely diligent (or paranoid) about backing files up daily.

In The HD crash of '09, I lost all my early scene files including some of the best work I had done (as well as a lot of freebies no longer available). All that is left are the final .jpgs, many of which I had to hunt down on sites where I posted them.

Mainly what I was referring to is reorganising/categorising your runtime on an existing HDD because the installers made a grand mess of things due to a lack of any standard filename convention over the years.

The CMS is a valiant attempt to mitigate this, however it is not without its flaws as well, like when database crashes and the fact that the Smart Content pane takes up far too much room on the screen (which is why I rarely use it). I'd need a dual monitor setup, one pretty much for the Smart Content display and whatever tabs I occasionally use with other for my workspace so I have a decent sized viewport to work in without always having to toggle back and forth every time I wanted to load another character, or prop.

To save screen space, I went back to the old tree format in the Content Library tab. While I can organise my Runtime/Library structure the in a way that works for me, unfortunately with the DIM, I don't get the luxury of renaming files in the individual folders so they make any sense without manually re installing everything. Unfortunately if I did so, I'd be out of luck knowing if there were any updates without having to check for them manually all the time as there are no more email notifications.

...at least I can easily find all my freebies, Rendo and RDNA content since the only choice I had was to install them manually and therefore could change the name to match the actual item's name if need be (and I also have received emails from both stores when a product was updated).

One would think it would be a simple straightforward task, but given years and years of haphazard file naming to deal with, getting it all to work right and in an elegant, clean, concise manner really seems to be (in the words of a former co worker and friend) "rocket surgery.".
