Indeed! David and his pectorals to the rescue as always! :-)
Indeed! David and his pectorals to the rescue as always! :-)
Hah! Please. =-)
Anyway, back on topic. Does anyone have the La Llorona's Frock product that they can get any good FBM info on?
LOL it's a pretty small dress, probably won't tell you much
Well, welcome to the new gal- she was posted at 1am Central time.
WOW. This is it ? The all new female Asian character ? This just looks like any western face morph with a little dial spun on the eyes, not the cute and/or distinctive realistic asian female I was hoping for after the very nice Lee 6 release. Sorry to say, but disappointed by this base.
I predict she's going to be very popular.
But I'm not as happy with her look as I was with Lee's.
I am trying to decide if the things that bug me are just personal preferences or something else (for example I have a personal preference against lipstick and eyeshadow - which is in all the promo images of her, and so that is making my "eye" more critical of the rest of the figure...). I also personally wish for a wider nose...
That said I can't imagine NOT buying the figure.
Not saying she is ugly, but.. well.. just not convincing. One in a row, not more. I probably should cut back expectations on new releases..
Maybe that is what happens when you try to throw out 'new' figures (base morphs) and Pro bundles on a monthly basis (14 Gen6 Pro bundles in 14 months, not counting dragon etc).
I'm not seeing it in the promo pics.. face geometry looks right to me. Her body looks a bit too curvy through the trunk IMO, but not un-plausible.
Waiting for DIM to finish downloading, if all else fails DAZ has a great return policy if you don't like something you bought. For myself I think this one's probably a keeper.
Download finished.... here's a couple close up's (no lights etc) in case you wanted a better look.
2 of Mei Lin 2 of Gogo. I'll have Mayuree up in a new post momentarily.
And the 2 of Mayuree promised above.
Mayuree personally is the one the sold me on the figure set, and the Kita hair (I'm a sucker for ponytails and pulled back hair or something.)
Anyway.. hope those are useful for you.
I noticed that I own more G2 male figures and characters than female. The simple reason is that the male figures offer much greater variety than the female. Female figures look more or less all the same. They are built to meet Mr. Average's concept of female beauty and not much more. Some are a bit brutish, some more 'cute', but most of them are more or less beautiful plastic dolls. That's what a female character is allowed to be - 'beautiful', and that's it. She may be a dangerous beauty, a seductive beauty, a 'next door girl' beauty, an innocent beauty, an underage beauty - but a 'beautiful' plastic doll she must be. At least it is boring to reduce women to such a small character range.
I know exactly three vendors who create more interesting female characters. Two of them are not selling at DAZ (unfortunately, one of those two doesn't design Genesis or G2F characters); the third is to be seen here only occasionally. Why?
This new figure, Mei Lin, is a ravishing beauty and I am sure she is perfectly crafted - but she's just another in the long row of DAZ beauties. Zzzzzz…
...I agree 101%.
I currently use D5 a lot more than M5.
What I'd really like to see is a "Plain Jane6" character.

Ya I'm hoping D6 and F6 are coming down the pipe soon myself. Frankly there isn't a Gen6M that I adore thus far. M6 is kinda douchy, Gianni is meh, Lee's alright, but none of them really made me stand up and scream "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"
Regarding unconventional beauties.

http://www.daz3d.com/fwart/fw-sassafrat
http://www.daz3d.com/forbiddenwhispers/bellatrix-for-genesis-2-female-s
There's 3 of them, so at least 2 PA's over here have done something "out of the box."... I'm guessing they're just not terribly profitable for them, or we'd see more.
Also DAZ released http://www.daz3d.com/feodora-for-genesis and she doesn't have anything resembling the typical bodyshape found on most of the models here... add in some genesis troll head and you got a winner!

stoltenkamp.scott, for me, G2M got some quite interesting characters here at DAZ: Amon, Tariq, Suleiman, Tyler, Malakai, Kim - just to name a few.
The female characters you mention - except for Bellatrix - are all a bit freaky. That's definitely not what I mean. A woman isn't either a Barbie or a freak. Just look at some characters by Mihrelle over at Rendo - individual, real life faces who don't lack female beauty. This is what I would like to see at DAZ.
Well now, this is something we haven't seen in quite a while, a major character release on a Thursday! :ohh:
I'll admit, she's pretty much what I expected her to be: an A6 Realistic with significant a hint of Asian-pop. Though, I'll also admit that I do like what I'm seeing of her smooth body shape, and I am impressed to see that she has some interesting Martial Arts poses that finally puts the females up to par with Lee and Hiro a bit. Though, what does surprise me is the fact that not one of the hairs in her Pro Bundle is from Valea!
Still all the hairs are gorgeous work and must have for me, and I like some of the new clothing items - so I might end up getting a bundle because of those later.
So, how do u guys like Mei Lin? I think she looks great! Added her to my wishlist and can´t wait to get her!
And who would you like to see next?
I´d love to see one of these:
- a true redhead with light freckled skin
- an indian female (indian as from India, not native american, although that wouldn´t be a bad idea as well!)
- or maybe an islander (like native Hawaiian or Maori inspired female character)
The hair sold me.... the outfits really didn't do much for me, just not my taste.

It's still early, but so far I'm pretty pleased.
And what next? D6, F6, then a new cat/bigcat and a new dog, K6, then any/all of the females you mention.
BTW since you mentioned the possibility of a Naitive American female.. in case you need one to get by look here: http://www.daz3d.com/people/fwsa-wachiwi-and-aiyana-bundle
Frankly I'm surprised there aren't already "default" Irish and Persian inspired models considering that I've heard Ireland has more animators per capita than elsewhere, and there are huge amounts of CG buffs throughout India (as well as Indian transplants to other countries).

BTW, Mei Lin is on my wishlist, too... ;-) And you were right about the hair! There are some real must-haves.
But sorry, the Native Americans I know, as well as their traditional clothes, look much different than the Wawichi-/Aiyana models. V4/M4 Cheyenne was a very good set and had some nice texture addons; I hope we get a remake for G2. The young lady in the promo pics http://www.daz3d.com/cheyenne-for-v4 and http://www.daz3d.com/cheyenne-v4-unimesh-fits looks much more like a 'real' Native American. It would be nice to have a character like this.

You know... I've just seen the base figure and I'm not happy with Mei Lin. She resembles a mix between Lilith and Lee. The body is fine, but not something extraordinary. Just my opinion.

Valea's missing? What could have happened?
Agreed, agreed. But the characters that got released for him were awesome. Neo took over Benjamin's place.

Valea's missing? What could have happened?
Absolutely on D5! While I actually wasn't much of a fan on either his default shape or texture, other characters like Dean really found some use in my late G1 renders. :)
But yeah, Valea's absence in this Pro Bundle release is concerning me a bit where his/her hairs have been my top favorite since the advent of the Pure Hair series. I'm tempted to send a PM and see if I can get a response...
Go for it, I'm worried too. She's my favourite hair provider; many very good PAs emerged, but her position is safe. Regarding D5, all four characters included in the pro bundle are fantastic:

Just a quick render...
I don't care for Mei Lin's outfits personally at all, Gogo (I like more realism) or the character, or the fans fighting poses. The value of the pro-bundle is prettty good right now, even if about half the content I will likely not use.
I kind of wish there were just some regular contemporary outfits for Mei Lin. At least Lee had the Jeans and shirt options.
I may pick up the base figure and a few hairs. Too bad, they are less reasonably priced when sold ala carte than as a bundle.
I like the head sculpts on some of the figures. I'm not sure the bodies really look anything new to me.
already been spending a lot on the anniversary sale myself so I'll probably pass on the bundles but considering the base model though and the other Mei Lin stuff considering too the Battle Kimono might be good and the In Bloom for Mei Lin 6 does allow for some diverse character variation morphs on her in faces and body so tempted there
I searched the new releases. Some brief opinions:
1. Mei Lin doesn't look very refreshing to me, the lack of natural lips among the promos saddens me.
2. I like the tails Thian Hair has, but if there is no way to get rid of the articulate buns n the back, I must pass: http://www.daz3d.com/thian-hair-for-genesis-2-female-s. However, the character wearing the hair is lovely and I'd appreciate a recipe.
3. If there was a way to get just the shoes from Battle Kimono (http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/battle-kimono-for-genesis-2-females), I'd jump at the chance. I just love SI's work.
4. The cheongsam Sarsa and Xena made is awesome, very realistic and not skimpy. A treat - onto my wishlist it goes.
5. Goldtassel's hairstyles are very nice. Kita Hair simply swept me off my legs while Choko Hair is a down-to-Earth set suitable for most genres. Onto my wishlist - both.
6. As much as I - by a rule of thumb - don't buy poses, I added the set by Capsces onto my wishlist. Apart from the expansion for Wildenlander HD and stuff for mertails, it's the first time ever for my wishlist to see poses.
7. Mei Lin looks more like some Russians I saw than an Asian woman. I hoped for a worthy sister to Xiao-Wen, Liu and Naoki... Not implying she is bad - DAZ figures are always fine - but she didn't steal my heart whatsoever.
So its not just me seeing that.
To me her face in several of the outfits looked Caucasian. I have been hoping this is because maybe those promo images were done with other figures and not her...
I also noticed that only Gogo seemed to have a face morph I liked... but too much makeup so I was unsure.
And she still looked a bit cartoon to me in a couple of the images.
Plus the pinched in nose bugs me a LOT. That's a more traditionally Caucasian feature and a point of controversy in Asia because so many women get surgery to get that feature, and others are born with it... and its caused a lot of social controversy in some communities in the 80s and 90s with accusations that... I cannot figure out a nice way of posting even if I try to post both sides at their most polite...
Yeah I'm really tired of the over-used trope and Asians and Martial Arts... which gets offset with the trope of Asians and suited gangsters or Anime-Pop.
But then I live in the middle of a majority Asian city (San Francisco - and from 95-03 I lived in a part of the city where the local Chinese were mostly families here since the 1840s, but the local Caucasians were all new arrivals from Eastern Europe - so the reality of who knew 'US culture / English' was the exact opposite of the stereotypes), and have lived in Asia, and am married to a Korean. So I'm kind of not used to seeing anyone playing/being a stereotype...
BUT...
On the other hand these are outfit tropes that were not as prevalent yet - so I can use them on any figure, and nothing stops me from using regular clothing on a Mei Lin.
You know that makes some sense.
A few weeks back on my google feed somebody passed a story of a young girl lost in the woods in Siberia. I read it and looked at images and noticed unusual features on some of them - that got me looking into the ethnicity of the people.
These folks:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakuts
The story of the lost child:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/14/girl-saved-by-her-puppy-siberia_n_5676414.html
are kind of in that zone between Asia and Europe - where you can see a blend that is the result of historic mixing or perhaps is the point of the 'split' between those two ethnicites in prehistoric times.
I'm not yet sold on Mei Lin being that sort of ethnicity. Your comment just reminded me of it. I think I could probably make a Yakut person using Mei Lin though.
