Complaint: What could possibly be so fascinating in an ordinary packet of sausages, that it takes several minutes to investigate, naturally in a tight place where nobody else can pass...

Let me guess... grocery store, cart parked at 45° angle blocking aisle, person lost in deep concentration about the philosophical and moral ramifications of sausaged meat in context to mankind's place in the universe... staring longingly into the opened freezer case like it's the infinity portal in the monolith from 2001 A Space Odyssey.

    Close?

You know you can still get Windows 10  for free right ?????

I've heard this but couldn't figure out how to actually make it happen. Microsoft kept asking for my key when I went to download.

My understanding of the "Free" Windows10 is:

    1) A motherboard with an already proper and legally registered OEM license of Win7 or Win8 will be activated at Win10 automatically.  The license is tied to the motherboard, not the CPU.

    2) Win10 can be installed and not activated and will never expire but is crippled of some very useful features.

    3) A full Win7 or Win8 (non-OEM) installation licensed to a user and linked to the user's Microsoft account can be used to move a license to another machine but not activate more than one machine at a time.

    4) There are all sorts of gray areas regarding remarketed business licenses and academic licenses.

Everytime I see one of these "Win10 is Free" articles I get only slightly less confused except for points 1, 2, and 3.

My observation is:  Microsoft licensing is a Cheshire cat seen through kalidoscopic lenses and illuminated by disco lights.  People older than 70 are forgetting how to tie their shoes.  Remembering and complying with MS licensing vagaries gets harder for me every year.  Except for the simplest of cases I buy my licenses and stop worrying.

The power is out in my neighborhood. That means no internet or TV. Too hot too write or maybe not? Oh the desk light won't work right now.

Complaint: Still waiting for our electrician friend to come to see the kitchen light, so cooking is a PITA. The standing lamp just doesn't give enough light, even with two daylight bulbs. It feels like a cave in here.

I didn't think this photo would come out looking the way it did in real life, but it did...

Isn't decaying plant matter pretty under the right lighting?

Also... The Frogs are awake and doing frog stuff...

    Swamps are fun.

I spilled coffee on my keyboard. Now I have to let it dry and hope it doesn't break/get sticky. There go my plans for dazzing this afternoon.

Non-complaint: My brain is no longer draining. Now I no longer hear the sloshing sound when I move my head around. Hope you're having or will have a pleasant day wherever or whenever you are.

Your computer should be fine. Although it will probably be up all night,

...yeah, today was a pleasant day  got my grocery shopping done and have a well stocked larder for a while.  Afterwards, went out and sat in the sun for a good part of the afternoon (need all the vitamin D I can get without having to pop pills). High here today was 78°F.  Tomorrow, 50s and wet again.

I'm not sure if that's a joke or I previously missed something in an earlier post... since there are certain conditions that can have that as as symptom, I'm going to assume it's not and I really hope you are getting better... I'm sure there is a lot more to that to begin with and I'm sorry if I missed the post where you mentioned this earlier.

Please get well and continue not sloshing.

    usb hub gizmos

i know a hug can let a pc use multiple ssd drives, but can multiple pcs use the same ssd?
or do i need a server?

i stacked my desktops on a cart, was hoping both could be batch rendering off the same external library.
right now i got usb extention cords on each machine and i plug into one or the other.  doesnt seem the most efficient way to do it.
sigh.  600 frame render been running for 4 days now.  today the last day of carrara challenge, gonna have to abort it if i want to do another challenge render.

Perhaps "handmaiden" is mock German for "homemade"? (* Groan, yeah, I know, it's bad. *)blush

i thought a handmaiden is a butler or housekeeper in the colonial/pioneer days of American History.  She does chores in and around the house.

A handmaiden would be a kind of ancient PA, a helper to the person (or deity) rather than a general household worker, as I recall.

Possibly someone who has diet restrictions   checking the list of what is actually in that ordinary packet of sausages.   That is one reason I prefer shopping on line,   far easier to check ingredients.

If you're worried about diet restrictions of sausages, you shouldn't think about what's in sausages in the first place. indecision

There are sausages and there are good quality sausages.

Amen to that!  The US has a wide selection, many of which do NOT include the, ahem, "extra components".

Complaint:  So annoying... so now when you quote someone in a reply, the text box opens on a separate page... and if you lose your Internet connection, or get a Cloudflare, you lose what you wrote... I guess I'm going to get back into the habit of writing anything longer than a sentence or two in Notes when quoting.

I've been complaining about this for almost a year now.  Nobody listens to me, not even in the complaint thread!

...that's OK, not trained in SCUBA anyway Sad however to hear that what sounded like an interesting experience became just another seagoing playtoy.

Still would love to do a real Transatlantic crossing

The Queen Mary II is the only passenger ship offering them during the summer season.  A few years ago Cunard actually removed the casino on the B deck and converted the area to single occupancy cabins due to the fact more people are travelling solo (well, before Covid). Beforehand, you had to pay a "single supplement" like in most hotels (basically the cost for the entire cabin that is usually shared).  The ship still has more on board amenities than the classic liners of old, but they do their best to give one the feel of a real "crossing" rather than a the typical "casino resort on the sea" type cruise.  Unfortunately it would require having to score a decent lotto payout to afford it as I'd also make the trip from Portland to New York by train, just like in the old days.

It's no wonder there is so much stress and angst today as people always tend to be in a rush to get somewhere or do something, I always thought the purpose of a vacation was to relax and take it easy.  Really wish I had the funds to travel the "old school" way instead of on a "Greyhound bus" with wings.  Crikey even Greyhound buses have become more comfortable than airline "steerage".

I always buy a first class ticket.  If buying with a long lead-time, the extra cost for 1st is between 25 and 30% more.  Worth it because my bags are free and I don't end up needing spinal surgery after the flight.  1st class is one of the things I will pay extra for.

If 1st class is too expensive or not available, then I might just stay home.  The food's probably better here anyway!

I know somebody who had some surgery to fix parts of her nasal areas.  The brain-draining thing is real.  And real scary. She's doing well and back to normal activities.

    Sorry, was concerned.

Lots of people from the old DAZ forums have been getting sick and or dying lately and sometimes I miss people's posts and stuff comes up and I'm like "how'd I miss that"...

    Either way, stay well.

... There are people in my living room. sad

Okay, yes, guy #1 fixed our kitchen light and I don't even think he is going to charge us. But he also invited guy #2 and I haven't seen them in ages. The hubs and them are sitting in my living room, eating chips and having guys talk while the cats and I are holed up in the bedroom wondering if it would be weird if I went to make a sandwich.

I really am not used to having other people in my house, especially since Covid hit. Social anxiety is a B.

  • TJohnTJohn Posts: 11,085

I have lost several close friends and valued acquaintances to Covid19 and age-related causes. I'll be 68 in August and many of my friends are in their 70's 80's and 90's.

Please let the people in your life know you care.

    Peace out. yesheart
