all day i been thinking about red velvet cake with the white icing.

today at work i packed 2 48lb boxes of 104 keyboards.  5lb each keytronics keyboards.  so exhausted bus driver was trying to tell me to move my seat, but so tired i didnt understand the words.

96 divided by 104 is .92307 lb., not 5 lb.

    Dana

the 48 pounders were the heaviest.  i packed more boxes than that. wink

what is a dozen in metric? how many donuts in the box?

We don't use dozen anymore, nowadays there's 10 or 15 eggs in an egg carton and there's never enough donuts in the box.

This may be a local thing for you.  I still buy a dozen eggs.  And they have the double cartons with two dozen in them.

    Dana

I can buy eggs in boxes of 12 or 18.

Oh, maybe it's 18...I don't need that many eggs ever, so I don't look closely at the number of eggs in the large cartons.

Sounds similar to my situation.  $5 is a 20% tip for a $25 pizza.  The store gets the delivery fee.  The tip is for the delivery person.  That's about what I've been giving for my pizza deliveries.

In my opinion a 15% tip for expected sevice is enough in a restaurant**.  I give 20% for above average service, or delivery beyond a few blocks.  Delivery people sometimes have to put up with real jerks on their own turf.  Adequate tipping from others helps the hurt.  But in my opinion, any more than a 25% tip is disingenuous and is trying to impress or buy favor.

** Note:  Yeah, yeah, I know the current generation seems to think in terms of larger numbers for tips, but that's just hubris speaking.  But I agree, if you run into that once-in-a-lifetime person who flabbergasts you with service like unto God himself then yeah you can give a few extra bucks but otherwise I've observed over the last 60 years that most servers are just average.indecision

    ...speaking of tips.

The one pub I go to on Wednesdays where I meet up with my cigar smoking friends is pretty much only staffed by one person.  It is a literally "hole in the wall" place (see image below) that is owned by the same outfit which operates larger pub and cinema on the corner.  There is one wonderful lady barkeep who is a bit older and of rather petite build, who works most of the week there. Every day she has to set everything up at the beginning of the day (including all the outside tables and chairs), get her own supplies for the afternoon/evening, and at the end of the day break everything down all by herself with no help from the other employees. The only time others from the corner show up is to deliver food from the other pub (which she serves to the patrons), fill in for her so she can have a 30 min dinner break, and bring firkins to replace emptied ones.

However has to share tips with everyone who works on the corner which I find a bit disheartening as she puts the lion's share of the work to keep the place running smoothly.

Several of us pass her cash tips on the sly and just do the basic 15% on the ticket.

There is actually more outside seating than seen here as the city allowed eating and drinking establishments to also cordon off and use the parking spots in front for extra tables due to indoor seating restrictions in effect..  Yeah she has about an extra ten tables with chairs and umbrellas to set up each afternoon and pack up each night. The place closes at 22:00 but she doesn't' get done to nearly midnight.

Complaint... The motherboard I had been drooling over had disappeared from the store during the last week or so... Had to settle for otherwise the same model but with additional 10G lan which I didn't want, and paying some 200 euros more for it.
The "Asus WS X299 Sage/10G Intel LGA2066 CEB" should arrive in a couple of weeks.

Now it's only the processor that I need to buy, I'll probably settle for the cheapest 10 series i9 with LGA2066 socket.

Should be good for some 5-6 years into the future

Non-complaint: I was trying to get my husband to get me a 3060, but he saw the prices and said "no way." Somehow, and I'm not sure how really, this ended up with him giving me the 2nd 3080 he got recently. I used it to render a scene that brought my pc to its knees last fall, and in 25 minutes it had over 10k iterations! I'm so freaking stoked! I'm only sorry I haven't had a chance to use it more since. Been very busy with the optometrist and running various errands. Tomorrow I have to help the hubs install the replacement window AC unit and Saturday we have a thing for Grandma, who is getting up there in years. I'm going to miss the webinar, but she really is more important. Cheers!

I had an online friend give me a ups tracking number. The ups tracking info says the sender is amazon.com which makes me think my friend ordered something from Amazon. I don't know what yet but I know its weight.

Urgh! This sinus infection is getting on my nerves! The smell is really upsetting my stomach.

I don't know whether to hold off on buying the Zodiac bundle. Leo is my sign, but not any of my characters. My main character is Virgo. But I can't get both.

You really should go to see a doctor, or at least an Urgent Care clinic... like kyoto kid said, a sinus infection should not be ignored...

I'm not trying to scare you, but if left untreated, it could lead to eye infections, bone abscesses, blood clots and even infections that travel to the brain.

Those are severe, but still it's not something to take lightly, especially if you are smelling the infection... there is a huge difference between smelling or tasting foul phlegm and an infection smell, that's an indication of something severe... if the smell is akin to an infected tooth or really foul old dog breath (I'm not joking, old dogs tend to get bad teeth that smelly rotty), then you should see a physician ASAP.

If it's bacterial, it's usually easy to knock down with Amoxicillin or other antibiotics... on average you'll see an improvement in 10-14 days...

If it's something you experience chronically, it could be fungal and related to an environmental issue like humidity or an overly damp interior environment.

Good luck, and if it's at all possible please consider getting that looked at if you haven't already.

    ..+1

I've had sinus infections before which were bacterial in nature and from experience I can say that antibiotics do a great job at getting you back on your feet again.  The longest I've needed to be on them was the low end of the average.

...non complaint:.  In this stretch of rather "meh" themed sales, managed to pick up several very useful items on today's BYOB flash sale.

Maybe there's hope yet for the fish and fishing content products to be on one of these after all because a majority of the items in this sale are not DOs.

It's probably due to Melatonin... If it's because of melatonin, it's probably your retina's fault... Well, technically not entirely the retina's fault...
When the retina is exposed to light, a signal is relayed from the retina to an area of the brain, called the suprachiasmatic nucleus, which plays a huge role in making us feel sleepy, wide awake or prone commenting to random stuff on forums and social media.

The suprachiasmatic nucleus sends signals and text messages to other parts of the brain that control hormones, body temperature and certain latent superpowers.
These signals travel from the brain down the spinal cord and then take an elevator back up to the pineal gland, a small weird novelty pinecone-shaped organ that lives in the brain where melatonin production takes place.
During the day, such signals prevent the weird little pineal gland from producing melatonin.
But when it is dark outside or you if are wearing a blindfold a lot, these signals are not activated, and the pineal gland is able to produce melatonin willy-nilly... So long story short, exposure to light prevents melatonin release, which keeps us awake and chipper, and lack of exposure to light usually from being in the dark, causes melatonin release, which make us sleepy and or surly.

Now you might be wondering where all this melatonin comes from... probably not, but I'm gonna tell you anyway...
Melatonin is actually derived from an amino acid called tryptophan, which is absorbed from the bloodstream to the weird looking pineal gland.
An amino acid is an organic acid used to make proteins... I could explain how tryptophan is made, which is kinda fascinating, but since you are already sleepy, I'm going to skip right to the part where turkeys are involved...

A few years ago a big deal was made about turkey meat containing tryptophan, which it does... some people (mostly me)... (ok, just me) speculated that this was a misguided attempt by turkeys to put humans to sleep for some nefarious purpose... probably identify theft or sock burglary...

Turkeys aren't very bright and the idea that they'd feed a large percentage of their population to hungry humans to pull off a nefarious plot or even overthrow mankind isn't too far fetched... over the centuries turkeys have been making themselves more and more delicious and scientists have speculated why this is happening (okay, again, it was entirely me)... My guess is that the turkeys have teamed up with the Illuminati on this one... probably promising them royalties if they can pull it off...

There's a big problem with their plan though... not everyone likes turkey or will eat enough to make them sleepy.
So most likely the turkeys found a way of getting their tryptophan into the water supply like how alligators are getting addicted to meth... people who take meth are peeing out residual amounts and that meth finds it's way into the water supply where really trashy swamp fish absorb it and then get eaten by alligators, the alligators then get addicted to meth and start robbing drug stores and stealing cars.
But there is a problem with that method... tryptophan isn't like meth, and it breaks down in water, most soft drinks and Ovaltine... so most likely the turkeys went to the Illuminati for some of their shrink-ray technology and shrunk down armies of turkeys and distributed them into the water supplies everywhere... And at some point you ingested some of this water and zillions of tiny turkeys traveled through your bloodstream into your pineal gland where they are squirting their tryptophan everywhere making your pineal gland produce melatonin like there is no tomorrow.

That or you ate a whole turkey or you've been wearing a blindfold all day... Maybe, you just didn't get enough sleep too... or everything bores you.

Either way, I'm sticking with the Illuminati Fantastic Voyage Turkey Theory.

they already tack on a delivery fee.  its not teenagers delivering.  hate to think theee men are supporting families with delivery jobs.  it not an after hours gig, middle of a thursday

Well, delivering food is a GREAT side-gig, and a lot of people are doing that.  You can make $1,000-2000 monthly delivering pizzas.  Maybe they're going to school in the daytime.  Or working during the day, side-gig at night, so they can go to classes on weekend.

I probably tip higher than typical, but here's my story.  When I order a pizza for delivery, I usually tip around $7 or $8, and that's for 1 or 2 pies, an order of wings, and a 2-liter bottle of diet coke or diet pepsi.  My total bill might come to $40-45, but that keeps me in pizza and wings for pretty much any long weekend.  They're driving about 3 miles from the oven to my house, making 2 left-turns and going through 3 traffic signals.  Both pies and the wings are usually in the same thermal carrier together (so it's not inconvenient for them to carry), and the soda is in a grocery-type bag, so that it's easy for them to carry to the front door in one hand and the thermal carrier in the other.

I'm thinking of bumping my standard pizza delivery tip higher, like maybe to $10.  But in recent years, a couple of the drivers have said that I tip nicely and they appreciate that.

At the holidays, I'll tip 2, 3, or 4 times that amount, depending on how much I've budgeted for tipping.  I have no debt and no payments on anything outside of my "4 walls".  My house is paid off.  I paid cash for my car last year, and my biggest payments are insurances and property taxes (all of them come to about $13-15k per year total)  For the rest of it, I live way under my means, so I was able to budget over $1,000 for tipping throughout November and December last year.  I ended up not spending that much, but I loved being able to drop a $50 tip on my server at the breakfast place in St. Augustine or $100 on the older lady working 3rd shift at Denny's down by Disney.  You KNOW that she's only working that shift because she needs to.  I probably will continue to do it again this year.

I do have a point of uneasiness, and that's about "slipping a cash tip" to the server so that they can avoid the taxes on their tip income.

First off, I can't do that.  I can't hide income from the IRS in an attempt to pay less in taxes.  Not legally, and also (many of you may not know this), not ethically.  Violate the legal and I end up with audits, penalties, and more money to pay.  Violate the ethical, and I'm actually violating my moral commitments, as well as my promise to my employer that I would behave and conduct myself fairly and ethically in my business AND personal dealings.

So leaving a cash tip is not unethical, but I do shy away from it these days.  And cash is really very inconvenient anyway in these days since Covid.  Let's put it on the bill for all to see and know.  Sunshine is the best disinfectant to corruption.

And one potential unintended benefit is for EVERYBODY to be paying into the system.  No, it's not equal; I'm in that 50% of the population who pays the greatest share of taxes.  I'm not complaining, although maybe I should do so more often.  But fair is fair.  And who knows, maybe one day that lady who delivered my pizza may really begin to realize just how much taxes impact us all, and maybe that will motivate her to reach out to her congressman or senator and ask for lower taxes.  Hey, it could happen!

Anyhow, that's what's been going through my mind on a Saturday afternoon.  smiley

i have to write a barcode inventory program.  deciding if a fancy spreadsheet be good enough.  i could make the first tab a lookup form and put the data on aother tab.  its easy to put the data in, need a strategy for deleting dispensed parts.  making it clear to them from the start, if they dont put it back in the inventory bucket i'm not counting it.  i'm not combinb debris scattered over the shelves.  idea is to put barcode on the bucket.  i scan the barcode, do a quick count of the contents.  done!  theyll appreciate it in the long run.  even if i get denied disability. is 2 years to retirement.  the disability is nice cuz its the amount of i retirement at 67.  and i think the medicare gap would be shorter.  i'd have absolutely no medical for a few years.  no more eylea injections.

working on my sword n sorcery entry.  i realizing my renders rarely look like the way i imagined it.

Complaint: I got stuck next to the MOST obnoxious person at Grandma's birthday party. I don't know her name, she never bothered to tell me. Instead, she launched into a long list of things about her life, including her parents dying, her house being broken down and in need of many repairs (which she listed at length), the house she wanted to buy, how it has to be really big, how it can't have white cabinets, or hallways, or windows next to the shower. It has to have lots of land because she hates neighbors, but it has to be close to the city too. On top of this, she is unemployed, misses her parents, who were awful, and her sister is a jerk, and by the way, her tooth hurts, and so on and so forth. Anything I said to her was promptly ignored so having a nice back and forth was impossible.

But the kicker is that her voice was kinda low, so I actually had to strain to hear her so as not to seem rude. Having to strain to hear someone you really wish would be quiet is the worst.

Oh, and she refused to get vaccinated AND she was eating so she was unmasked.

I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
