My question is, should I be able to use my $20 coupon I received when I purchased the Draper Fluid Bundle with this? There’s no stipulations that you can’t, but it hasn’t work when I tried to use it.

    Jason

It doesn't seem to be set to behave like a Daz Original, so no the coupon won't work (nor, as far as I know, will the regular PC coupons).

It never states anywhere that the coupon is limited to Daz Originals, so why is it relevant if it behaves like a DO or not?

Hmm, my recollection of the original promo page was that it ddi say Daz originals, I hadn't noticed that the actual message doesn't. I've asked about that, and about using it on the Season Pass.

Well, de promo did not say anything on restrictions at all. I remember, because I asked about that.

That is almost correct. The only restriction in the original promo was that it excluded gift cards.

As long as these characters are still available to non season pass buyers I don't have an issue with this. Lord knows I've frivolously spent plenty a penny. However, this seems like a lost opportunity for DAZ. The company could have built up some excitement and discussion for future products by previewing thumbnails or concept sketches for these characters, instead we get black boxes and vague promises of something great for free. After the last few months I'm guessing DAZ doesn't have enough goodwill banked to make this successful, but considering my puzzlement over the tremendous value placed on a forum flair, perhaps I'm out of touch with the new customers.

Waaaay back in the day, the Plat-Club used to get sneak peeks at coming soon new releases. It would be nice if they gave sneak peeks at this Season Pass instead of asking us for $125 and we'll give you a five models you never would have purchased the old fashion way to begin with. I mean look at the recent bundle stuff they've been offering in the last year, half of the items were items released years ago! But figures like the baby figures, or the teen figures, none of those are in my runtime, I wouldn't buy any of them but what if they're one of these 5 figures in this pass? I would be inclined to want to see what a package is going to have in it than buy blind. That's how I've been buying my figures for the last few years, I look at the bundle and decide do I want the whole kit or buy what I like? So make a splash image using these 'new' figures in an advertisement of this new Season  Pass. But right now it's like saying, hey DAZ I have a bridge for $125 bucks you wanna buy it?

I agree with many of the comments, and so with trepidation I have rolled the dice. Please Daz gods, please make this so good that the next season's pass becomes an insta-buy. Right now, the expression sliders in the attached image tell the story.

This is beautiful! Love the render and post-work on this. I didn't mean to start a thing with showing the Daz-Deals-Can't-Unsee-The-Price total but I'm glad I tossed mine out there if only for this render.

Back on point, my biggest problem with this is not only the fact that what we may get will be broken with a goodness knows when we can actually use it date,  but the mystery aspect of it. While this isn't a Loot Box (something I deeply -DEEPLY- hate, with every fiber of my being) it's temping that borderline. I get it that Daz likes to be hush hush and keep everything a secret, but they're asking a lot of money on faith that they burned away without a care in the world. This is starting to remind me of Bungie and Destiny 2 with the whole "We hear you and your complaints, but we just don't care about any of it. Oh, btw, give us money." I mean, Daz does have the whole Free 2 Play model already, so why not Season Passes and Loot Boxes. Here's why not; these models of business ruined gaming and it's if this stuff is here it's going to ruin Dazing as well. I'm reminded of Bethesda with all this as well, the games are great, but broken. They depend on other to fix the issues, i.e. modders in the case of Bethesda, and us the users or some few PAs in the case of Daz. Oh, your icons suddenly broke? We know about it; here's the fix; delete everything and reinstall, but don't let your program connect to us, or else it will just break again. Our bad. It's like Skyrim and all the broken default assets that you need a mod to fix, but then they update the game and break all the mods. Meh, just do more work to make what you paid for work. I mean...

Pass. Daz has a many characters I have happily purchased, but also a LOT that I wouldn't download even if they were free. Not paying $$ for something I haven't seen.

Honestly I'm shocked the discount + free HD isn't a PC special. PC is already supposed to get freebies anyway, so they wouldn't need anything extra for that. Just toss in a forum badge, tutorial, and contest and it sounds like a perfectly normal deal for premium subscibers, not a cash grab insultingly disguised as premium-premium. I know their current approach locks adopters into paying for all five characters, and is mostly for people who would do that anyway, but as a PC special it could have brought in new PC members.

Plus a $150 two month season pass for 5 characters sounds more exploitive than just offering a $30 character PC special that makes them cost the equivalent $150 for those who want to collect all five even if they are technically equivalent (and a one day head start with the content is a joke). This is especially true for people who aren't simply collecting every core figure. Daz doesn't have enough trust right now to market mystery and surprise regarding new products as a fun part of the shopping experience.

It shows up on my Firefox. Maybe you have an addon blocking it, like uBlock Origin? Shouldn't be blocking it automatically, though.

I skimmed through this thread. It appears my initial reaction was in line with most people here. This is just another weird scheme DAZ cooked up,

I don't see the value in anything offered. I don't enter gallery contests. If I ever get around to doing a semi-decent render, I keep it to myself. I will likely ever win a contest.

As it stands, I will likely allow my PC club membership to end... and will not spend any more money at DAZ until they improve many things to my liking.

Loot boxes have come to 3d hobbiest sites, wow that's unreal.

The people who are actually interested in this have a very different mindset than I do. For me, it's bad enough when games spam me with loot box and season passes for in game content that I constantly pass on (but I understand it for certain games), but when it's for visual artistry... no frickin' way. The whole point of the market place is to shop for and pay for what you want, not pay an upfront fee and get unknown items. Even if it's the smallest perantage, there's always a chance that you'll not like anything in the pass. Even if it was cheaper, I still wouldn't go for it because if I wanted to gamble, I'd go play those cruddy free casino games online. This is a definite no for me.

  • SnowSultanSnowSultan Posts: 3,591

Like others have said, as long as everyone else is able to purchase these mystery items at roughly the same prices that we're used to when they're released, this really is just another option for people to consider. I would probably get it if I made a wider variety of imagery, but since everything I do is fantasy-related, I don't need as many base characters as most others. I don't really see this as much of a problem as the NFT business.

These are not loot boxes. They are NOT randomized purchases, and loot boxes can be bought over and over with only a small percent chance of getting what you actually want. We may not know what is in them, but it is the same for every person. It is simply a season pass, a blind one, since you cannot see what the content is, but still a season pass.

So don't call them loot boxes, and it is not gambling. But the whole thing certainly is...shady. There are certainly some weird things here.

First of all, how does this really benefit Daz? Think about it. If this deal is only for the people who buy all the characters anyway, but now at a slight discount...what does Daz get out of it if only those people buy in? After all, the people who buy everything...would buy everything anyway, right? Giving them a discount for what they normally buy anyway, however small, would seem to be counter productive to the bottom line! For the season pass to be truly succesful, Daz would need to entice more than their usual whales to buy into the season pass. They need to expand their base.

The psychology behind Daz sales is rather fascinating. FOMO is being used as a bait. They have done this to a degree before, but the season pass takes it to a new level. Many people can easily ignore this deal. But it seams that there are plenty of Daz users out there who may not ignore this deal, for one reason or another. What does that mean?

We have multiple posts of users admitting that they have felt an addiction to purchasing Daz content. There are many factors that can contribute to this. But I would argue Daz does not help with its sales tactics, which often include hidden loyalty discounts among other things. These kinds of sales and loyalty discounts may possibly trigger people who are predisposed to addictive behavior. Shopping for Daz content is often a game itself, with users working out "Daz Math" to try and figure out the best deals. But here is the thing, how many of these people would buy this content otherwise? Just how many people are buying content for the sake of buying content as opposed to using them as actual art assets?

It is kind of crazy that such a question can be asked at all.

How many people are addicted to Daz content?

Honestly, I may have been addicted to Daz myself at one point in time. I'm not quite sure what motivated that. Even now I will still at least look at pretty much every "core" character, even though I rarely buy any of them these days. Why do I still do this?

I would love to see a real study done on this niche little Daz thing, covering the user base, the marketing, ect. Daz really is its own little world, there is nothing like it.

    Awesome comment!

  • outrider42, you're absolutely right about the Season Pass not being loot boxes.  Nothing random, a standard set of items purchased sight unseen.  Five pigs in a poke, HD add-ons for those pigs, and a couple of free items.  Here's hoping the freebies aren't shrubs or tableware.

Daz appears to be engaging in some test marketing or spitballing.  NFT? I don't think it has much appeal, but it doesn't really cost Daz anything to bring up the idea.  A Season Pass?  Again, no significant costs for Daz, and if the idea fails Season One ends up being Season Last.  It may indicate that Daz lacks confidence in its upcoming characters.  Most Daz customers have several Genesis 8 characters already.  The next five, upon release, may be viewed as redundant, regardless of quality, by most customers.  If Daz assumes that most customers would've purchased zero, one, or two of the characters, then the $150 (or more, and non-refundable) is a great deal for Daz.

Of course, getting people to pre-pay for undetermined future products or services is always to the advantage of the business.  Time value of money. a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, etc. . . . Daz is more than happy to sell people discounted gift cards--Gift card holders are a captive market which has already forked over cash.

Yes, Daz, like any business, should be trying to expand their customer base and get more sales from existing customers.  Daz's efforts seem to be focused on sales gimmicks and publicity stunts.  I think more benefit would be had if they focused more on quality control, making Daz Studio more user-friendly (including up-to-date documentation) and faster.

What does DAZ get out of this? Money. Cash up front without risk. None of those pesky refunds. One thing that adds to my suspicions is a timeline. It's assumed that everything will be done within the two months of the SP but it has not been explicitly stated anywhere I can locate. The fine print on the webinar/tutorial (which is it?) only states that it will be once during the season. Does that mean it will be only available once and if you can't make it you are out of luck? This whole offer may not be a classic lootbox but it feels like a cash grab.

I spent much more than I normally would at Daz this last year due to lockdown(s) and spending less on actual real life fun stuff; there is no lure of spending $149 on unseen products for me. I usually only like one named character in every 5 that are released, I will happily buy the bundles for them and other great items released by the PAs. Spending so much on just the named characters unseen.... nah. Saving my pennies for fun stuff and holidays... just as soon as I can enjoy them! laugh

Because if it is, it's not a very good attempt. Like, at all.

This has been in the works for a long time.  They had sent a poll to Platinum Club users a year or more ago asking about interest in some of these features.

I imagine you will, as the gateways are passed. The biggest discount afforded to the people who are willing to go sight unseen. The middle discount for those that want to see the first model and how things play out...  It's no different than anything else.

I always found the killing enemies to gather stuff to sell to the traders more fun than the trading itself - maybe DAZ could have us slay forum goblins to collect money? That would improve the shopping experience immensely... devil

Honestly DAZ, if you are going to do weird stuff, at least maybe drop some sweet DAZ merch (physical real world stuff, not virtual tokens of it)... stuff like official logo sweatshirts, hoodies or edible underwear... maybe a friggin' coffee mug or something... I bet that would thrill people more than weird loot box stuff that seems to be geared more towards a twelve year old.

    DAZ should do this :

    1 - silver : forum flair + 2 items free .

    2- Gold : forum flair + 2 items free + 5 3D base models .

    3- Platinum : forum flair + 2 items free + 5 3D base models + 5 HD add-on Free + Tutorial + Contest Winners .

Do not force people to Buy things that they do not want .

As a collector (loved showcasing them throughout the years, that was my hobby) I am not jumping on the season pass thing. First of all, two months is not a good deal. Five figures and HDs coming to 30.00 each (for a figure and its HD)  isn't a bargain.

Second, tutorials and contests aren't my thing (unless I'm running the contest, which has been awhile) and that badge thing SHOULD BE VOLUNTARY as to whether you want it posted or not. Some folks may want the products/tutorials/contests, but don't want other people knowing what they bought. As people are commenting on my Art Studio thread- THAT BADGE VIOLATES THEIR PRIVACY!!!!!  It needs to be optional if you want a badge or not. Turn it off and on in your account settings.

i admit I’m addicted to Daz content, but only content that I can imagine using and that’s a good deal. I go crazy in the $1.99 and $2.99  sales because I can find a use for almost anything at that price point. But the LAST thing I’m personally interested in is Daz core characters, so this sale is obviously not geared toward me. But would I like to join the contests? Maybe. Or see the tutorials? Maybe. I wish they hadn’t combined them all together, And I don’t think anyone should have to pay to enter contests or that non-adopters should be left out of tutorials. If they had said, pay $ whatever price and choose 5 characters and HD of your liking and left out the other perks, I personally still would not be interested but it would be more fair to those not interested in core characters but who still may want to enter contests or see the tutorials.

I agree. It's a gamble. If you do the math you are basically pre-paying for 5 base characters plus the HD package sight unseen. ($45+$40 for each of the 5 characters gives you the $425 value.) I won't be buying it because I don't want characters that I may not ever use. All the other stuff in the Season Pass is zero motivation for me. Badges? I don't need no stinkin' badges. (To steal a line from Blazing Saddles.)
