This I heartily recommend to anyone interested in HDRI. Not just from the perspective of exporting your images but also in terms of getting to grips with the entire concept. This video offers clear insights into HDRI and tone mapping.
Edit: Here are two images I recently made that employ HDRI export.
Some great images here, and many thanks for all the tutorials, David!
Speaking of which, I am having a real problem getting realistic renders in Bryce. Pretty sure that's mainly due to lack of lighting and texturing skills. I'll do one of your tutes, like the 8-minute Wings3D project, and it goes great, until I render the final image. Yours looks real - mine looks lame. Even though I'm using a reflective metallic material on part of it, there's no reflection on the metal - just looks like plastic. Been experimenting with render options and lighting (IBL, etc.), but I'm kinda shooting in the dark. Other aspects of Bryce have always been easy for me, but lighting has never been one of them.
I've started on a couple of your lighting tutorials, but, for instance, the "Bryce 20 minute scene lighting project - Using IBL with boost light and TA gels" starts out with a better render than I've ever been able to make - and that's the "before" picture!
Obviously I need to go back and learn (or re-learn) some basics on lighting, and probably textures as well - I've been around in the mat lab and DTE, but never got to the point where I was confident in producing predictable results.
You and Horo have tons of great tutorials and I know that's where I need to be, but I'd like to know a couple of ones that you would recommend starting with, if you don't mind...
Thanks,
joe
PS: Never mind - found exactly the info I needed here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/5529/ :) (just needed a breakdown of which tutes were beginner, advanced, etc. to know where to start)
Cjreynolds, well if your scenes are not too large (less than 10meg) you can post me them and - time permitting - I will happily tinker with it, video the process and let you have it back.
Maraich, where have you been? I don't know. But thank you, you are welcome. I hope you enjoy the tutorials. I'll give you a quick recap of the list, since this thread is spread over a few pages now.
