I thought I installed Daz Studio 4.8 on this computer.  Apparently, only version 4.7 is on this computer.  I want to play with Iray.

Nice to see you around!  Are you well?  What's the prognosis?

Windows 10 installed.  I had to hack my account to getin to my own laptop, Wn10 jacked up y account, but running now.

Everything works fine, all my audio software and 2D/3D apps, DS and Brye are fine.

Apps load faster. Windows boots in les than 30 seconds.  The Edge browser, omg omg, so fast. surprise

Despite the bs I had to go through to get back in, using my Android phone and tablet, I declare Win10.. a win.  Win8 blew, this is the OS MSshould have shipped.

Did you find all the privacy things that need to be changed?  Is your computer going to be used for a download machine?  (not for you, for other users?)  there are a lot of things that make privacy a piece of fiction in Windows 10.  Some are not easy to find.

If the issue is in the display, perhaps you can use an external monitor as a temporary solution if there's a port for it.  People often discard working older monitors you could get one for free.

...as I have mentioned elsewhere, the display doesn't go completely black as would occur were the connection faulty, the backlight is still receiving power.  I've tried several different fix routines, and so far none of them have helped.

I keep all my passwords hidden deep in a notebook containing old story notes... They are written in a simple but non intuitive code and the notebook is hidden with several other notebooks containing tons if other story ideas notes, and data... Good luck hacking that.

Good luck to me even finding it half the times I've needed it.

...ran into another issue tonight had a BSOD that was triggered by the 0x0000019 stop code. This one seems more serious as it relates to a what is called "bad pool header".  In researching the means to fix this, I found so many different suggestions, some which I wouldn't trust myself doing (as they involve using the Win7 boot disk, system restore functions, and manually messing around with the registry) I had no idea of what to do.  Those suggestions that involve using a "free" repair tool, end up with sending you to a site to purchase said tool to perform the actual fixes after you have waited through all the scans.

Ended up running a MalwareBytes scan instead, and had it remove a lot of stuff it isolated related to the AskToolbar which as I discovered is a vector for malware and according to many, should be removed from one's system.

We'll see if that fixes the issue.

I really need a personal IT tech, but I cannot afford one.

No, I am not well.  The surgeon will hopefully give me my prognosis on August 20.  I'll post the updates on my thread so that I can keep track of my comments.

Good decision, bad POOL_HEADER is a catch-all for problems (re)allocating memory, mebbe related to a HW driver, and you need to really drill down into what's happening with memory allocation after that, can't assume much from it at all :)

Blissful Sunday almost over here, had the privilege this morning of being with some infirm but still glorious heroes that kept me walking on air all day - a real gift. Back to the grinder in around eight hours, with a bit of luck this job will be over by the end of next week & I'll be back to regular complaining with a little more time at home. Be well y'all :)

That depends on which connector, surely? Power would take the backlight but the data connector sending the pixel colours would not necessarily do so.

I think not being aware of Windows 10 is probably an indication that you do have a life away from the computer.

...I may be able to build a system, but this kind of stuff leaves me in the dark, hence my comment: "I need a personal IT Tech".  I wouldn't even know where to begin as much less what to do.

...Thanks.  The cases I read didn't mention there are two cables to deal with.  They did however also mention it could be the inverter.

In any case, sounds like something I'd need a tech to fix and that means it won't get dealt with until I have the funds to spare (which could be a long time).  Working on towers is one thing, in comparison, working on a notebook with my clumsy arthritic fingers would be like working on an old analogue watch.

So far, worth the agony of upgrading.  The touchscreen/trackpad/mouse feels more reasonable, hey don't collide horribly and throw off my typing.  EVERY program loads noticably faster.  The Edge browser is fastr than Chrome, OMG.  After some updates, everything I rely on runs - all my audio and 3D software.  DS runs fine, so does Bryce.  I have no new complaints. smiley

...like I have mentioned were it not for the forced auto updating, having to be a super sleuth to turn off all the privacy invading "features", the inability to uninstall "bloatware" I don't need (like personal assistants), having to pay a monthly fee not to get adverts, and having to purchase an "app" to replace the trusty old Media Centre, I probably would have gone for it.

My internet is acting as if it is not working.

  • The "Ask Toolbar" gets installed with Java or Adobe Acrobat or some other free software.  Basically, you forgot to uncheck it when you installed the freebie.  It's nuisanceware, but not malware and certainly not intentionally maleficent or malicious.  You should be able to uninstall Ask Toolbar from the Programs (aka "Add or Remove Programs") menu.  I would do that before trying to uninstall it with any malware-remover.

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,040

...actually a couple sources do mention that it can be a vector for malware.
