As far as blood sugar goes, Dana is right. You liver turns carbohydrates into glucose. It then turns some of that glucose into cholesterol. Getting your blood sugar lower will slowly reduce cholesterol too if you are consistant about it.

Erm...no.  Carbohydrates are digested by the saliva, stomach, and intestines.  Glucose that is not needed for energy is converted by the liver into glycogen for storage -- glycogen can be easily converted back into sugar when needed.  And while lots of added sugar contributes to higher triglycerides and lower HDL (good cholesterol), cholesterol is not made from glucose.

    Sure Happy It's Thursday. indecision

Blew my last few bucks to upgrade my audio editing software, I'll likely need the extra goodies it comes with to use on my music from this point on, to better polish them.  I need one more thing, a multiband compressor, and then I'm good to go for fancy music mastering at home.

Definitely need rest, this week has been a nightmare at the office.  Feh. indecision

...well big "doctor day" for me today.  Has a follow-up to my blood tests and discovered that am Diabetic-II. Fortunately it is not a serious stage and can be handled by simple meds (no injections *whew*) and diet. Don't even have to perform daily glucose monitoring.

So looks like no more Mexican Coca Cola or pre-sweetened Ice tea though (fortunately I sort of lost my "sweet tooth" left so no candy withdrawl).

Also have to lower the old cholesterol level a bit so looks like lots more lean stuff on the diet (fortunately I like things like fish and chicken breast stir fry).  Doesn't mean I can't still have a burger now & then, just not every other night. Going to try my street tacos with ground turkey (natural/organically fed) this week & see how that works. Probably will have to forego bacon though which will be a real downer.  At least I'm not gluten intolerant, that would be real tough.

Also was sent over to the nearby hospital for imaging of my right hand that has been bothering me over the past several years. Had to get "stuck" again for a blood test to verify my rheumatoid arthritis.

One good thing, I was handed a form to apply for a "Honoured Citizen ID" with our transit system.  This will mean I can get a monthly bus pass for 28$ instead of 100$ and get those "yutes" to get up and give me a seat.

Wear a badge that says "Ancient Person in Pain with Anger Issues -- MAY I SIT HERE A**HOLE?"

My pharmacy issues an "info" sheet with each prescription and a little credit-card sized summary comes with it.  I keep all my prescription cards in my wallet so if I get searched by a cop for being a pain in someone's day, I can tell him "I'm a licensed druggie".

...mine came with those sheets and the summary cards too.

    No bacon... Dammmn.. That's rough.

There is turkey bacon... Which is really vaguely bacon flavored turkey... The sweet and low of meat.

    ...mmmm, "roof rabbit" tacos.

Yeah, I've seen the turkey bacon, but it is usually made with mechanically separated over processed and pressed turkey meat. Trust me, you don't want to see the process in action.  There are some "organic natural" brands that actually use slices of "real meat" without all the mechanical processing and pressing, but they are twice as expensive as regular pork bacon.

Platypus are also dangerous as the males have two spurs on their hind legs that can inject a nasty venom.  Not lethal to humans but still very unpleasant to experience.

Glad you dodged the bullet on the diabetes.. I take my 2 pills daily and am happy.  Dropping the sugar will be a  pain, it took me ages to learn to check EVERYTHING for sugar, it's even in bread and tortillas!

    Take care of yourself!!

..thank you.  Good I'm already a compulsive label reader.

I've been on the regimen for a few days now and so far, no major ill effects.  My doctor said as I continue to take the medication, I'll build up a resistance to potential side effects.

Watching sugars these days is a real challenge as just about everything has added sweeteners.  I already avoid anything with HFCS or even just corn syrup, don't eat much in the way of sweets these days either.  Anything high in carbs (like bread, spuds, rice etc...) is a real toughie as those easily convert to sugar (and I love my stir frys).  Even fruits have a lot of sugar.

The one thing I really need to be careful about is grapefruit as I am also on a statin, so I have to check the label of all fruit and soft drinks.  No more ordering Greyhounds or Sea Breezes or a Kyoto Sour (bugger) at the pub. Have to ask about Margaritas as well as some recipes call for grapefruit juice.

Not to mention that just about everything you eat turns to sugar in your blood!  Not nut, meat, fish...generally proteins.  But fruits, breads, a lot of veggies (especially corn!), fruit juices (not cocktails, that would be obvious, but pure juice...there's more sugar in Welch's 100% grape juice than in Dr. Pepper!).  I have determined that if something tastes good, it's not good for you.  And even some things that don't taste good are bad for you!

    Dana

...yeah this will be a fun balancing act having to drop the cholesterol as well. Normally veggies are good for that but then like you mention, there's the sugar issue. Love fish but it is a lot more expensive than red meat on average (save for salmon out here in the Northwest, but unfortunately I have a sensitivity to it).  Looks like my food budget is going to increase yet a bit more as I already purchase meats that come from range fed instead of "factory farmed" hormone/antibiotic laced sources as it is. Same for fish as I go for the wild line caught instead of farmed variety as often as possible (if I drove, I'd get a licence, some waders, a fly rod, and go out to catch my own dinner).

When I do have a soda, it is cane sugar only (and I don't drink them that often). Aspartame, which is what most diet soft drinks use, would actually be worse for me.

I need to research which veggies have a lower amount of sugar  I also don't necessarily have to go complete "cold turkey" on a number of things I enjoy (already confirmed this with my doctor), just do so with a bit more moderation. Also need to get on the bike more than I have, no need to go into extreme "bike jock" mode, just take longer and longer rides at my own pace to extend my endurance and keep things moving (as well as burn off carbs).

Correct, the Ask Toolbar can be a vector for malware.  But by common definition, it is not malware itself.

    The commonly held definition being:

    1.  You can opt out of it by unchecking the box.

    ...and...

    2.  If it does get installed, you can uninstall it by using the standard Windows "add/remove programs" tool (or equivalent, depending on what version of Windows you are on).

Of course, this could change at anytime, but as far as I know, the above are still true.  Yes, it's a fine distinction, and of course we can argue about the fact that it's so easy to overlook the checkbox.  I'm not defending the practice, by the way; I think it's evil.

...and it was an Adobe Flash update that included it.

Still better to be safe.  Going though the logs, I discovered that Adobe Air was one of the BSOD culprits as well. Uninstalled that as well and did a sweep for any remaining files (two turned up & deleted those too).

If you have a Wacom Bamboo device (or some other specialized drawing, gesturing hardware device), you may need Adobe Air for it to work.  Maybe see if there's a more current one than the one that is giving you BSODs.

...no issue I use a trackball. Unable to use a tablet because of my arthritis (which is why I had to give up traditional art media).

Read a bit about Air, and it is more trouble to deal with than it is worth.  Wish I could do the same for Java and Flash, two more potential "leaks in the hull" in my book.

Well, of course!  Everything that's better for you must also be more expensive.  Even though there's less processing, less additives, less added water, etc.  You know what they used to say?  ...Less is more!  I just did't think that it should apply to food purchases.
