You both need to raise your bids.  If it's Ebay, especially so.  Because you might be competing with somebody like me, and I'm definitely gonna bid higher than you and in the last 30 seconds so that you don't have a chance to drive it higher by $5 increments.  I'm gonna win anyway.

If you are nickel-and-dime adding to your bids and you really want that item, then you may not be getting serious enough about the price you're willing to pay.  You can still beat the last-second bidder like me, but to do so you will need to raise your maximum much much more.

P.S.  No, I'm not "really" bidding on your items.  But I do win over 90% of the auctions I bid in, and usually I get the item for only 50 to 75% of my bid price, and a mere $5 over the second-best bid.  So get serious and you will win the item you so dearly covet.  wink

I am getting really good on what my son calls "Ninja" bids.  Have had some bargains.  Unfortunately the Limoges vase in the image, the closing auction time was half way through my sleep period, so my maximum bid got beat, and only by about 50p

...not easy to do when the high bid with 30 seconds to go is something like 30$ and I add 5$, then just seconds before the bidding ends someone jacks it up to 60$

Usually I just go for the "buy it now" price if it seems reasonable enough, but vintage items like this are rarely offered with that option.

Did manage to score both an Old 60s Northwest Orient "The Fan Jet Airline" logo bag and Pan Am bag. (the Northwest tote I have is slightly different from the pic below as it is woven like the Pan Am one rather than made of soft vinyl).

Well, my point is the winner may have actually put in a much much higher bid than yours + 50p.  You just don't know unless you ask the winning bidder and he/she responds kindly.

This is my point precisely.  Always bid your maximum bid, and then you will never have to play the game at the end.  I use a robo-bidder that puts the bid in with 30 (or maybe it's 20?) seconds to go.  That allows me to sleep and also keeps folks like you and Chohole from making me pay more than I really should.  laugh

But your bags and her vases are safe; I'm not interested in stuff like that.  angel

    Yes, it was United.

Best response to "how is your day?", from a lady flight attendant:  "It's always a great day when I get to fly!"

Edit:  I am always disappointed when somebody responds with the day of week it is.

    "How are you today?"

    "It's Monday."

Then I say, "that's not what I asked you."

    "Monday should tell you."

    "Fine, I guess."

It is the fastest way to complete a transaction.  And safest, too; because the seller never gets your credit card info.

Edit:  Or worse yet, your bank account debit card number.  An unscrupulous person might be able to clean you out and then you won't have money for groceries or rent.  crying

I like to fly.  I just hate airports these days.  Also, the seats have shrunk so much and I have expanded so much that we don't get along well.  But once I'm shoehorned into the seat I love to watch out the window and try to ignore the chaos in the plane.

Me too.  I recently went with Pre-Check and I've been buying only first class tickets.  The seats are an insult, they are too close to allow reclining, and if the airlines aren't careful, they'll get regulated for safety.  I'm only 5' 6" and my knees are almost touching the seat in front of me in regular coach.

Edit:  I think they also have become a little bit too restrictive with luggage.  At least with a 1st Class ticket, I can check 2 pieces for free.  With a coach ticket, the first bag costs $25 and the second one goes up to $110 or $130, and often from that point, a 1st Class ticket isn't much more and you get an actual meal with actual dinnerware.

Decades ago when my other half and I started living together he informed me that I HAD to start collecting something worthwhile and that the peacock tapestry had to go.  He collected china and glass.  I decided I couldn't be trusted handling those things so I started collecting bronze.  I had quite a collection for a while, but all my best and largest pieces have been sold out of need. sad  However, I do still have a few good pieces and several miniature bronzes and many small jade animals.

In addition to my tiny jade animals I also have quite a collection of various other semi-precious stone carved animals.  I used to know the name of all the minerals but would be hard pressed to list them anymore.

Precheck is where you don't have to take off your belt and shoes, and you don't have to remove laptops and musical instruments from your carryon baggage.  HUGE time saver.  Cost $80 or $90 and DHS (US Dept. of Homeland Security) does a background check on you.

I started flying when I went to college, back in 1966.  That was when you still had to run out in the rain and walk up the steps directly into the airplane.  But the seats were decent sized, you got real, hot meals and you weren't riding with 400 other people each with their own fragrances.  And even then the people in the planes were higher class and behaved themselves.
