Today's D+ item, the 'City Watchtowers', looks great. It went straight into my cart.

  • It is nice. Didn't get it because I don't often do renders where it'd be appropriate, but I'll bear it in mind should it be useful.

    Regards,

The Xue hair is just a standard polygon hair, no dForce, either strand or dForce cloth, so I am confused where anyone saw the settings that suggested it could be simulated.

Naturally you can add a dForce modifier yourself, and I did try this. Given it is a 300K poly hair the simulation was slow, but at least the hair did not fall apart. It likely needs a weightmap modifier adding to it to restrict simulation to only certain parts of the hair. Simulation is thus an option given the absence of movement morphs.

Thanks for the info... That was my next test.  I take it the whole hair just drooped off her head???  That's what usually happens when I try to simulate hair... lol.  Ends up as a puddle on the floor... LOL!

The whole hair dropping off (or at least most of it) happens to me a lot too, it depends on how the hair is made. This one only has two material zones, the cap and the hair, so I set the dynamic strength of the cap to zero, and the hair surface I moved collision offset to 0.02, bend strength to 0.2 and buckling to 3% and then ran the simulation.

I should add that I rarely buy non-dForce long hairs any more, even if they have some movement morphs, as the movement morphs tends to just be for having the hair flying around to look fancy in a pin up pic. To make a long hair move like it would in real life, it needs to be dynamic.

The most I will normally be willing to pay for a static long hair is 1-2 dollars, so this one fitted that criteria.

The thing I love about all the buildings in this series by Enterables is that they have both interiors and exteriors, which is rare for most buildings in the store.

Thank you, Llola Lane! It actually looks good; the hairline is not too low either.

Too bad it's over $24 today.... That price for hair without morphs is a bit unrealistic, isn't it?

ooo Now I wanna try it!  lol.  I'm zipping my lips for your last question... Let's just say I'm glad I got it for a buck!  ;)

Would love to see renders of the simulated hair, if you guys find the time.

I don't know a lot about simulation but I will try.  I've only dabbled with dforce... hang on....

... taking a loooooooooooooooooooooong time to simulate...

Here it is at 16minutes with 36percent simulation... not looking good.  I'm letting it go a little longer...

Looks like it may end up in a pile on the floor like I thought.  Past a half hour now and falling further off her body :(  Simulations for me usually take minutes.

That was with 'start from memorized pose'... Now I'm gonna try simulating 'without memorized pose'... fingers crossed...

Well.. that didn't do much better... 22minutes at 48percent... Bah... Guess simulation is out of the question... unless I'm doing something wrong.  (sighs)... Well... I tried!

Oof. I hate when this happens! Llola, I don't know if you have dForce Master? I have it, but have not got round to trying it out. blush I don't think it'll help with every hair, but maybe it can help with this one? I'm on a low-key mission to remember and try a lot of the plugins I've bought, and this one sprang to mind when I read this discussion...

I do not have it SapphireBlue... but it is now on my wishlist!  Another thing to buy... chaa chiiiiiiiiiiing!  lol.  My wishlist is climbing back up again.  (sighs)  (but that's a topic for another thread .. winks)

Read over the dforce master promo page... not sure this hair will work as it is one clump of hair... scalp then hair is all one piece.  I think it would take someone (not me) to break it up into pieces parts... then add simulation.  Waaaaaay out of my comfort zone though... So I'll live with it as is.. gonna try the mirror image next... (once it goes on sale for me to buy)  lol

Did you remember to set the dynamic strength of the hair cap to 0 in the surface settings?

hum... I'll admit I don't know what I'm doing half the time with dforce... lol.  The haircap and hair are together not seperate so I can't set it at 0... all I did was change the opacity of the cap to 0... but no I did not.. This was with default settings.  Maybe I need to read up on dforce more.  Just wanted to post something for tsroemi to see.

You can in the surfaces tab. Select the cap and look for dynamic strength in the dforce area at the end (it will show after you add the dforce).

found it!  It was set at 1.00... now 0... Trying simulation again... WOW... I learned something new... (fingers crossed)

kk.. found it... no difference after 12minute simulation and only 32percent done...  The hair is just too complicated I think... I hope this helps the peeps that were interested in simulation... I would say no... but then again I'm not a dforce expert :)

Thank you for going to all this trouble!heart

What a bummer it doesn't seem to behave itself at all. Maybe the hair is not attached to the scalp? Anyways, one can probably get it to move a little or fit differently with some prodding by Mesh Grabber or in Hexagon.

My pleasure tsroemi ... I had fun... I have not tried Mesh Grabber ( will leave that to you )... and I've just dabbled in Hexagon... I'm happy with the hair the way it is.... for now ;)

I had a bit of a play, and by using a dforce weight modifier you can get pretty good dforce results - this was the video that introduced me to them a while ago. Basically just masking the hair so the dforce only applies to part of it. I just used mostly default dforce values, although lowered the Dynamics Strength to 0.9 and turned self collide off (on the hair, I left the hair cap alone).  It wasn't perfect, there were a few straggling pieces that went too far, but seems plausible to be useable as dforce hair with some tweaking.

Thanks for the tips stelari ... I am very novice when it comes to dforce... and lazy... Not sure I could even do what you did... I didn't even know it was possible to "mask the hair parts".  I'll give the video a watch but I'm pretty daft when it comes to learning new things sometimes... lol.   Yours looks great... I suppose you could save it as a morph once you like it for future use???

Great, well done! I'm kind of shying away from the weight maps still, it seems like soooo much hassle. Getting results though, as I can see! Thanks once again for trying out and posting here.

I really like the idea of using geoshell textures on this new dress: https://www.daz3d.com/olivine-dforce-outfit-for-genesis-9. Like the dress itself as well. I only wish there was a morph included to reduce the cleavage because, like so often, it's just too extreme for my purposes. Apart from that, a very nice garment I think yes.

I just bought it too. That cleavege bothered me also. My thought was maybe the Sexy Skinz products might be useful here, like an old-fashioned 'dickey' insert?

You could do what women in real life do - layer a cami or tanktop under it.

I found that the Sexy Skinz Modesty products are useful in this, but they tend to poke through with very tight fitting stuff, so I'm not using them much anymore. Am rather thinking of trying to make an adjustment myself, or maybe put a scarf in front of it or something.

Yeah but I'm mostly doing historical renders, and women before our time didn't tend to do this kind of thing, or not much at least. Probably because there wasn't much Lycra etc. to be had ;-)

    Looks very impressive, any opinions?

I like it, espceially the instancing option. I'm always struggling to find climbing flowers to put on fences. Yes, that's a thing for me. The only issue I see that it has to be flower with leaves or it'll end up looking weird.

Well actually, if I understood correctly what you meant, you can grow a first network instancing only flowers, a second on top of it instancing leaves this time, a third instancing fruit (?) and more. So the networks can be incrementals. Or, if you prefer, you can build a single network instancing a group of props.

Are you planning on expanding this or better yet creating a tree maker?  Thanks!

me too but this video took surprisingly long to render inspite of only using half my VRAM

I am not sure if it's the dress though causing that

You might find this product helpful, when dealing with clothing issues:

    https://www.daz3d.com/fit-control-for-genesis-9-bundle

I checked it out on the olivine dress - it didn't make the decoltee smaller but it made the breast area smaller and in general this product has tons of controls for shaping and fixing your garment of choice.
