The current selection, according to people who are now Premier Members is: https://www.daz3d.com/premier-characters

(I don't know why the list is not easy to find, at least it wasn't monday and I didn't check before posting this reply).

Like I said in my previous message, @Daz_Steve teased something for this week, telling people to keep their bundle coupon until they saw what was teased, so we will know more before the end of the week.

    @Elor thank you.

but when I am clicking in the newsletter on the link I have got another list: https://www.daz3d.com/bundle-upgrades?trk_msg=4DCJ5OTKGJE4PB9T9FFCQENRTC&trk_contact=TO4IL4D3AK8EGF68UCGQMHA5E4&trk_sid=NUF9KB7G1DOO1J2EJABEOG28HK&trk_link=RBKKFPAJ02RKFARQO48P4IDPJC&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=SHOP+NOW&utm_campaign=Premier+Goes+Post-Apocalyptic#index=0&filtered=1

anyway, I don't have premier right now. But I have daz+ without a purchase and should write for an upgrade to the support.

Probably someone else already asked this, but I don't have the strenght to search along the whole forum...

If I convert a figure using the Premier tool, I'm allowed to use that converted figure if I don't keep the subscription? Or it will stop working along with the plugin? A more backward compatibility is planned (namely, support for G1 and G2  F/M figures)?

The converted figures will be either saved as sub-set or DSF files... etc. then they'll have nothing to do with the converter plugin anymore, so they can always work without subscritpion.

Have you used this converter yet? If so, does it work well? I can't for the life of me get riversoft's to work right and I'd love to make the characters I have that are G8 for this film I'm doing into G9 as I have much better expression packs for G9. If it works nicely, that might persuade me to swap my seven months or whatever it is for two months of premiere to swap them all over.

Yep ! Again, this converter plugin is just the Figure Converter product from Manfriday (http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/90814/start). There's no big change as far as I test except for a newly-added function of Adjust Rigging in its UI (screenshot 1, which is as same as Adjust Rigging to Shape).

As expected, it works well on converting Head shape when converting G3/G8 to G9 but the issues in specific Body shape cases are still there, especially from G3 - G9. (screenshot 2)  Besides, as usual, the converter won't fix the issues of eye rigging, corrective morphs, expressional distortion... yada yada. You still have to fix them yourselves.

Pls be noted, this converter just uses Fit-Suit method ( Mr. Jay Versluis showed in his tutorials ) only it nearly automates the whole workflow. If you directly use the way of Fit-Suit manually, you even can prevent the above issues from happening ~~ So, it's up to your choice anyway...

Run a survey and ask questions, if Daz Plus members are willing to pay more for it.

...my response to a such survey would be:

Price the Daz+ tier at 6$ per month (which comes to 72$ a year) and I'd be good with that..

As it currently stands 70 USD divided by 12 months comes to 5.83 USD per month. 9.99 USD comes to 119.88 a year which is a markup of 49.88 USD or 58.4%  Setting the monthly price to 6$ would be a 2$ (2.9%) markup over a 12 month period.

Given that no new benefits or features have been added to the Daz+ tier, a nearly 50 USD annual markup is far too much and would result in people just letting what they have left on their memberships expire and settling for the basic tier or leaving Daz altogether (as some here have already expressed).

ETA: I would like to add, that as I pay 19$ and receive $20 + a character bundle in exchange, I rather perceive this tier as a commitment to spend at least about 35$ a month at the DAZ Shop.

Only if you're using both coupons.

If you are only using the $10 DOs coupon, you are only commited to spend the subscription price per month.

@Elor: That is correct, but in this case, I would indeed commit to paying a $9 fee for DAZ Studio, as the free character bundle, although it is worth more than $9, still may not be what I / a customer would actually choose to buy at the store. So, to me it is a 35$ commitment and not a fee, which for a dazoholic is perfectly ok, a healthy library growth plan so to speak, lol.

I've been a Daz plus member for years, always doing the annual plan. Monthly subscriptions only? I think when my membership expires next year I'm out.

There's things I kind of like about premier but nothing that warrants the price and I already have too many monthly subscriptions.

To those who have Premier and the old GenerationX2 system, I ask a little favor: Could you please transfer a G1 morph to G3 and then from G3 to G9 using the new transfer system? Does the transferred morph work well?

My DAZ+ membership is due to expire on the 17th. Since I suspect the products I might want will be behind the Premier paywall I see no point in renewing DAZ+, and won't be held ransom with Premier. I doubt I'll be buying enough to make tokens worthwile so not really interested in them now.

Someone said that they used the $10 off of $25 select items coupon on a mix of DAZ Originals and PA products and it worked, so if that's correct, it's a better coupon than the old $6 off $18 of non-new PA items.

One of the reasons for ending my DAZ+ membership was it got more and more complicated to find enough stuff to assemble a $ 18.- cart to use the $ 6.- coupon. I'm too lazy to check when I ever had a $ 25.- cart in the last year(s), but that alone shows that at least for me (and people that share my shopping habits) such a coupon would be utterly wortless. Just like tokens...

another question. If joining Premiere, do the items you get, like the free bundle, or anything else other than the Studio enhancements, go away if you stop the subscription?

You'll keep anything that a non Premier member can buy.

In other word, you'll only lose the exclusive plugins and exclusive contents (which will apparently appear with the next Daz bundle) if you stop being a Premier member.

As far as I test, the product assets (essential morphs... ) you ever downloaded with the subscription will be always there and usable even Premier expires. I don't think they'll be encryped, de-activated or deleted after Premier expires... I'll be surprised if they will be ~~

And all new plugins can work offline without no futher log-in after activation but I do believe the Premier subscription data is stored locally. DS will check it when being launched...

Now, I may be very wrong here. It was my understanding that when you morphed a character using your morph collection and saved the project/scene or scene subset, it saved the character and morph data. If you use a subscription morph and no longer have access to use that morph, then your scene would not be able to load that data. You may get an error, data file or whatever not found, or unexpected results due to that/those morphs not being available. Clarification of this would be appreciated by me at least.

  • I'd quite like to know who was actually asking for Premier? Was there a drive from the consumer base for this at all?

I know a questionairre went around a while ago, but that was worded in such a way as to make it plain that saying no to a new tier wasn't really an option.

There is currently a fair bit of push back across the creative industries to hard nosed subscription models like that, so it seems like an odd choice to double down on what was there already.

I in no way want to dunk on the folks who run Daz day to day and do a fine job in a lot of different depts (especially folks who run/moderate public facing forums!), but this feels very much like a 'Number goes up" boardroom decision that has not at all come from the customers.

So was there a quiet groundswell of folks asking for this? Cheers!

Thanks, I was curious about what the "free" premier bundles would actually be.

A little disappointing that it's just characters I already own.

I already buy all the characters as the come out, and pro packs if they're worth it - I have no idea how this is going to incentivize me to buy a pro pack if I subscribed to premier, knowing in 6 months I'd get the character for free? Particularly since if I don't wait for it to be free and buy new charactrers on release, then this is a perk I wouldn't benefit from.

Can you please clarify what, if anything, will change regarding export feature accessibility with the introduction of premier.

The DAZ blog post lists the following under the standard export features:

"Enhanced Exporting Tools for Smoother Workflows
Easily transfer your creations to other software using Daz Studio’s enhanced exporting tools, including file > send to options for Blender and Maya in their native file formats. Whether you’re refining models or working on animations, these tools streamline your creative process. Plus, you can now convert Daz rigs for Unreal Engine or Mixamo with just a few clicks, allowing you to experiment with animations in Mixamo or directly integrate characters into your Unreal projects. Additionally, Studio 4.23 allows you to export entire environment scenes directly to Blender for further refinement, so you can take your favorite Daz content with you as you create."

However, the DAZ premier info page seems to indicate that those features are premier only:

    "Enhanced Exporting Tools

Experience streamlined and versatile exporting workflows in Daz Studio. With options for sending content to popular 3D software, enhanced rig conversion tools, and intuitive ways to export entire environments, your creative projects are easier to share and develop across platforms

    Rig Conversion System

Convert Daz rigs for Unreal Engine, MetaHuman, or Mixamo with a click. Export your characters directly into Unreal projects or experiment with animations in Mixamo

    Environment Export to Blender

Export entire environment scenes directly from Daz Studio into Blender, preserving all your selected Daz props and assets for further refinement"

Can you please clarify this discrepency? I also am a little concerned over what "With options for sending content to popular 3D software" means since as of 4.22, those options are already present without a subscription.

    • Will we still have access to the export features we used to have without a premier subscription, or will those now be premier only?
    • Will the enhanced export options be available for everyone, or only those with a subscription?

Currently, I'm a DAZ+ subscriber, although I will probably let that lapse when it expires because of the price increase. I would consider subscribing to premier some months when I want discounts, but not if the export options we already have are getting moved to subcription. I'm uninterested in renting plugins.

Just saw the announcement of the premier subscription. I am a fairly frequent DAZ customer and have been a DAZ+ member for a long time, but I think for me it is hard to see the added value. I would love to see more features and capabilities in DAZ Studio, and I would be willing to pay for it, but the actual additions on first look do not seem to be very tempting for my purposes. Has anybody had a chance to try Premier out? It seems like many of the added features are already available (in simpler form perhaps) as plugins (and I already paid for them), such as the dForce companion (now manager) and Mesh Grabber (now sculpting tools - very little information seen so far). It seems there is nothing for HD morphs, or strand based hair, or other of the tools currently reserved for PAs? Nothing in terms of important rendering features such as motion blur? Or a better HDRI system? Don't get me wrong, I like the new features to be included, but I struggle with the value proposition ofmore than $200 per year.

As for the coupons, in most months i found it impossible to effectively use the existing DAZ+ coupons - too many exclusions - tokens expire too quickly to be a great help, and monthly freebies have rarely been good choices for me.

My feedback to DAZ on first look would be - wow that is a steep price for what it offers... But I might try it for a month to have a more solid opinion.

Also, of course, what used to be DAZ+ has now also gotten a massive price hike (from $70 to $120) without any apparent additional value. Talk about rising prices way beyond inflation. As much as I like my shopping sprees on DAZ, it seems they are getting prohibitively expensive. Pity.

Anyways, just curious how other customers feel about the new subscription and its value proposition.

Am in agreement with the above. Am not seeing the value or really much added value in the changes and terribly high price hikes.  Can't purchase much with the price hikes, monthly coupons go un-used regulary as mentioned above and now this. Stuck with my subscription until 2026 which means I've paid for a whole lot of nothing

As per my checking and experimenting, there's no sort of "subscription morph" and there shouldn't be such a thing even with a subscription ~ Why ?

    1) After subscribing Premier tier, I got 5 packages of products pushed to me in DIM (shown in screenshot1), though I've already own them. They have no difference from the ordinary products. And with big discount / tokens, they may be totally worth $15 ~~ (Don't forget I've already paid $19 ... don't I derserve to own them permanently even if I've never bought them ? )

    2) There's no way / no updated ToS, at least by now, for Daz to make you "no longer access to use" these assets, AFAIK, let alone, IMHO, it'll be pretty meaningless even ridiculous for Daz to do so.. because there're quite a few ways for the user to keep using these assets. Why should Daz do so with such a stupid strategy ?

Again, for this new Tier, if Daz has determined a way of renting Assets to the subscribers by using whaever techniques / terms in ToS,  that'd be a very very unwise strategy. So... anyway ~~ I'm waiting for my one month's subscription expires, then see what will happen.

But right now, we don't know what the exclusive Premier content will be and the only content we know someone stopping their subscription lose is the various plugins Daz bought from Manfriday. We should know more before the end of the week, @Daz_Steve teased a incoming bundle, advising people to keep their bundle coupons.

Export features with Daz to XXX Bridges are not Premier subscrition dependent. They can be also used in older DS versions. And the very same up-to-date bridge versions have been already published on daz-to-xxx github pages.

Right ~ If there's any "exclusive Content" for this Premier tier only, i.e. non-Premier tiers folks have no way to buy, as well as the folks who stop subscription cannot further access the Content, I think Daz might've developed a really good way to assure these things can be solidly secured.

Still, let's keep eyes on it ~

  • What sticks in my craw about the plugins pulled from the store and added to the Premier version of studio is that they're best endeavours. This isn't to knock ManFriday - I already own the plugins and love them - but as someone who develops their own plugins for Daz (and elsewhere), I understand the trade-offs you have to make and the creative steps you have to take when developing against a public API. Plugins are, essentially, convenience macros of things you can already do with a product. You could in theory go further, but the quality-time trade-off isn't one that's often worthwhile as you'd be developing entirely new features without any ability to alter or redesign the underlying code to support them. I expect official features to do exactly that, though, because that leads to better software for the user and for the core developers.

I'm also a professional software engineer - a good one with a lot of experience under my belt - and the worst thing I can think of from a professional perspective is to have something like a plugin foisted onto you. Any decent engineer I've worked will either rewrite it into the base code or abandoned it when integrated, bar maybe a tweak here and there. But former won't happen because Daz haven't taken that route to begin with. It tells me a lot about the development direction of Studio and I don't like it.

I just came back in from watching some gaming news, and I would really like to encourage DAZ to ponder where the words 'players should get comfortable not owning their games' have just recently gotten the company who uttered them. Hint: It's not a good place.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read the thread topic correctly, but it seems other people are also posting opinions about Premier here, not just questions, so I'll leave it here for now.

yeah that didn't sit well with gamers. Oh recently there was a game called Concord on Playstation 5, gamers that bought the digital found Sony had deleted it of their consoles and disc versions would play the loading screen and that's it it was released on August 23 this year and ended starting 6th September sooo if they can do this what confidence do we have in any other company/subscrition service doing the same thing without warning on a whim

As I mentioned elsewhere, my son has been buying physical copies of videos and games to avoid losing digital copies to corporate whims or just cloud server problems - but looks like that's no guarantee any more.

Re: quarterly membership discounts. No, those never got discounted, although sometimes I was lucky enough to find a coupon that worked on memberships.

Most games have launch day patches, so yes, it's not necessary possible to get a fully working physical version (to say nothing of the fact that DVD/Blu-ray or cartridges are not eternal either).

I still use DS 4.22 and just learned that the new Premier features require the DIM to download, install, and activate.  I hate the DIM and refuse to use it, so that's a deal-breaker for me.

I insist on being able to manually download and organize my content.  My question is, will the revised Daz Plus tier also require the DIM to download and install content for v4.23, or am I forever stuck with v4.22?

It's easy for software developers to add a "phone home" facility within the software. How many people now have left the default "check for updates". That could easily be updated to check for Premier flagged poducts. Microsoft has for well over a decade checked your Windows pc for pirate Microsoft software whenever a windows update is done. It's no biggie to disable something you don't have access to in acordance with the TOU.

Personal opinion. In the past I have subscribed to Daz+ when I think I will be buying lots in the next 12 months. I purchased additional years when on sale and have had a benefit that has made the money well spent, even with a disappointing exchange rate. I wont upgrade to Premier as I dont have any subscriptions except internet security and evin with that I don't let it auto renew and contact the provider for a better deal, about a week before it expires and they have tried to take money from an empty account for months.

I'll ask questions for everybodies benefit as I am sure Daz is "all over this forum like a rash" trying to compile questions so they can answer them.

My concern is, Daz Studio has ALWAYS been back ward compatable, sure we have moved from older file type, render engines etc. but old content still works and great content providers build converter scripts for us to purchase, because Like me, I am lazy and want to click a button, not do the individual steps for the same result. If Daz starts to introduce a gen 10 or higher figure and content that only has limited functionality in the free version, but requires the Premier version for full functionality, that would be a big problem.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to let me know this information! I don't change anything really bodyshape wise, I usually just find a character I have that has the shape I pretty much want, I just need the head shapes to change. And good to know Jay found a way to do it manually, but at this point, I just want something automated. When I started the film I'm doing, the main character I created was G8 since 9 wasn't available at the time (it's been an off and on project haha), and I would just love to transfer him over to G9 and I can't get the Riversoft one to work right. I think this might be worth it for me to swap my remaining months for two of premiere and get this guy to G9. Thanks again!

I've been a Daz plus member for years, always doing the annual plan. Monthly subscriptions only? I think when my membership expires next year I'm out.

There's things I kind of like about premier but nothing that warrants the price and I already have too many monthly subscriptions.

Same!  I can't believe the crazy price hike on Daz+.  No chance am I paying £9.99/month for that.

Did several of Man Friday's plugins such as the to-G9-converter and new Render Queue plugins get removed from the Daz store and become Premier-only features?

I believe I saw a message above the indicated the "G9 conversion" in premier is in indeed one of these existing plugins, and it was already confirmed that the new Mesh Grabber 4.0 will not be released as it has become a Premier feature.

This is not in anyway saying the PA does not deserve to be justly compensated for excellent features, but some of these advanced features are things users may want as they use Daz for more involved workflows.  If these features can no longer be purchased as one-time cost plugins and the only way to get these features is by subscribing to Premier, that should be something they are aware of before investing in Daz as a platform for their work.

If someone were to get premiere for the discounts, is there any way to disable the subscription-based content/plugins so they don't inadvertently create any projects dependent on that content or the plugins? It'd really suck to find all your work tied to a subscription.

I get that at the moment they're downloaded separately, but I'd expect in a version or two they'd be integrated like so many other plugins.

Not sure but that's what I have read somewhere in the forum.
