Okay, Mattymanx, got a question for you. In order to use the Starfleet letter set, we have to be able to turn off the letters and numbers that are currently on a given model. the black isn't a problem. But how do we turn off the red when it's the same material zone as the trim elsewhere on the ship?

    Oh, I like this!

I've been meaning to ask -- whose morph are you using for Trip?

Its my own done with dial ups using M4 base and morphs ++. The texture is Troy from here at DAZ. I have the morph saved as a pose if you want to try it

Use Poser's Grouping Tool, or the DAZ Studio Group Seelction Tool, to seelctt he trim around the letters and assign it to a new material zone. In DS I'd use the marquee mode to drag around the letters, then in the Tool Settings pane click the - signs next to all the other material zones to get the non-red polygons out of the selection, then right-click and Polygon Assignment>Create Surface from Selected

(Tries to type while getting his eyes uncrossed..) I've been thinking about trying a simular approach with UV mapper- If I could do it without lossing all the color that's already in place.

For those, you have to thank Rduda for "iKling" and Thalek for "Dawson's Christian". Ptrope, Bluto, jaguarry3,and Mylochka all contributed commericals to the project- and I not only listed them in the credits, but I will also say now, "Thank you guys!" :-)

I have to admit I was a little concerned about this one because the format was totally different from the others. Wasn't sure how that would go over.

Each ship is different so it all depends. Try what Richard has already suggested is my best suggestion.

I need an opinion please. In the current story I'm working on, there's a part that involves a race between 2 characters. When I had initially written the story I planned on using hover bikes (they're racing from one mountain top to another and back). And then the other day, the Dystopia Coriolis was released. So now I'm in a quandry as to which to use, the hover bike or the coriolis. Thoughts? Comments?

I like the hoverbike actually it has that Star Trekish look to it more than the Coriollis does.

OK, point taken. However my story is more sci-fi than it is star trek related.

I haven't looked at the hoverbike to compare, but as a practical matter, I don't think a hovercraft would handle rough terrain particularly well. Maybe if they have some well-defined trails to race upon . . . Otherwise, I'd rather fly over the boulders than hover a foot above the ground. Of course, trying to avoid boulders at high speed while moving on a frictionless "surface" could add some excitement, too. I'm just a little less free to risks to my life than fictional characters are. [grin]

/Facepalm! Sorry David somehow I read Star Trek in there and not Sci-Fi, I would still say I like the hoverbikes over the other one. While it looks nice and all it just doesn't have the speedy look that the bike has. It looks more like a lifting/hauling type of vehicle with the cockpit layout and wing design, it kind of strikes me as more of a sky crane than a racer.

Hmm, then the tag line in the promo is misleading somewhat. In my race I had the racers pictured going across a valley several thousand feet in the air. There would be nothing but jungle vegetation below the racers. And after seeing the dystopian vehicle I thought it would be less predictable form of racer. Still looks cool though.

Look at it this way: If this were a movie, would the race be a major moment or a small distraction ? If it's a major moment, then Star Trek or not, you mmay want someting flashier than yet another hoverbike. Hoverbike races have been done down through sci-fi history. It approaches the same level of cliche' as using the air vent or service hatch to escape the detention cell- everyone's done it.
If you can come up with a new wrinkle for it, why not use it?

Yes, it would be a major point in the story as it cause the need for the next part of the story which is a quick trip back to the ship because one of the racers became injured. I was leaning towards the dystopian vehicle. And just wanted confirmation that I'm going in the right direction. And I wanted to get it while it's still at a decent price.

Okay, the next Nova Trek Novella is up at my DA Gallery.

Nova Trek: Timespot. This story takes place after "The test" in "Special Report" and tells the story of Tam's first mission aboard the FSS Georgetown:
