Blech, 45 more minutes before i can leave.

I think a stop on the way home for some beer, then a Whataburger Patty Melt for dinner! Throw on some tunes, kick back, and chill.

Hopefully I can get some quality time plotting in this weekend, and maybe blast out a flash fiction piece or two. I have some great ideas (hee hee)! :vampire:

Looks like I'll be writing horror and fantasy, those are the things I prefer to read and that I get excited about writing. :) But no romance.. I can NOT write romance worth a darn! :bug: And I had a pen name all picked out!

...And I'm not doing too well with the website, either. Keep bumping into a problem that I can't figure out. ...

What's the shape of the problem that's causing issues? (or is it something you really want to nut out yourself?).

I'm using the Wizard control in webforms, Visual Studio 2010, as a checkout process. Using SQL Server 2005. On the third step, which is to review the order before placing it, I have a GridView with a SQLDataSource. It just doesn't bind, the gridview comes up empty. I've checked and the temp order and detail records are created. I've tried binding it to the datasource in the OnActiveStepChanged event, the OnNextButtonClick event, I've tried several different things. Nothing seems to be working. I'm not sure if maybe this isn't the best control to use for this purpose. The SQLDataSource calls a stored procedure, by the way. I've tested it and it works. I get no error message, it just loads with an empty GridView. >:(

well like I said its been a few years, and I'm a hands on visual type person. labels and text in a forum doesn't quite put it in context for my brain to process. and based on what google has spit out, there's not much "user" configuration of the LIU to do.

oh, i didn't mean to put you out. I can reference a few manuals or bother a tech.

    Thanks though.

...well not so much a complaint but some bad news.

As I mentioned in previous posts concerning loss of the client at the company I work, the inevitable occurred today.

I am now among the ranks of the unemployed. It really wasn't a big shock as things have become so slow everyone (of the "hourly" staff) has gone on reduced hours and required to take unpaid days off.

It is not a sacking, but a layoff so I can qualify for UC benefits.

To me this illustrates just how important this client was to the firm. They provided a steady stable workflow, in a sense were our "Bread & Butter" that helped us through the lean times (particularly during the last four years of the "Great Recession"). More than half the warehouse is empty and the production area which used to be a bustling hive of activity has become more like a tomb. Even in the digital print department things are so slow that the supervisor there was considering calling the afternoon/evening shift personnel to tell them not to come in.

Pretty much all the people left are the exempt (salaried) staff, and even a few of them (like my old supervisor) are apprehensive about their future.

Personally, I fear the company may not survive through the summer as that is usually the slowest time of the year.

Mid April would have been my eighteenth year so at least I have a good work history coupled with over fifteen years at my residence which shows stability.

The parting was actually quite congenial and I received a bonus of two weeks vacation pay along with the hours I worked this week They even paid me for the full day today. So I have a sizable bank deposit to make this afternoon and with my tax refund will have a nice cushion to fall back on.

Yeah, it's sad in a way, but then it gives me the opportunity to find something on my side of the West Hills and ditch the lengthy commute I've been dealing with all these years. Love to find something within biking distance as not only will I get back in shape but save over 100$ a month.

Going to take the next week at leisure (actually planned to take it as a vacation week anyway) get things in order, file for my tax return, and open my UC claim.

The other thing, I now have lots of time now to finish installing everything and setting up the runtimes on the workstation.

...and have time to maybe get back into kite flying again.

So mixed emotions about the whole situation but not as much a downer as it would have been.

...shoot, I can stay up late now and actually try to have that post to roll the thread over.

...that is beautiful and huge. An absolute treasure as it is the largest Father Willis instrument in the southern hemisphere. I am glad they saved it as t6his instrument represents an important era in organ history. All too often here in the States, when there is a renovation of a hall or church, the original organ is either sold or even disposed of and replaced with a new instrument (which sometimes is a digital facsimile of the real thing).

Hopefully there will be a recording of the re-dedication concert.

It is a big deal so yes, I'm sure there will at least be a CD or two :)

All the big romances seem to have unhappy endings - like Gone With The Wind where nobody ends up with who they want to be - or should be, kind of horror stories as well

Doubt it. I need that light to go on that shows me where I'm being such a dumbass in my code. No, not my genetic code, I'm afraid there's nothing that can be done about that. :smirk:

...Dana TA. MFM, and ps1borg thank you for the support.

Actually I feel as if a big weight has been removed from my shoulders.

Went to "my downtown" (the Hawthorne District of Portland) and stopped at my favourite pub there to celebrate my "freedom" from bad workplace politik and 4 hours of commuting a day. One friend gave me not just one but two lovely cigars to smoke. Also got a glass of one of my favourite "peaty" Scot's whiskeys.

Time to move onward and upward.

Currently dining on a homemade Teriyaki dinner.

I love to cook and now I have the time.

I like rain. I know it makes floods but where we are it leaves puddles everywhere, as if a giant mirror was broken and 'm walking in its reflecting shards

Kyoto Kid, I know the feeling of relief, the feeling of burden being removed, due to leaving behind a job one does not enjoy; I have been in a similar situation, it was a major contributor to my depression.

So keep your head high, and seize the day. :)
