Paid 54$ for it on sale several years ago. Never was able to model a thing because of all the instability.

    ...now I am learning Blender.

i'm test driving the wings 1.4.1. managed a couple of crash dumps, but it recovered with a left mouse click.

i love the geodome. how to uvmap that sucker for minimum seamage?

i think there is a vray for Blender :)

tried some basic commands in the v1.4 wings. worst comes to worst, i could export the project obj and continue in v95.5.

starships to build! and a jade dragon palace.
...tried Wings, didn't like the UI as it was grey on grey which made it hard to look at for very long. Also back when I had it, seemed there was an update that needed to be installed just about every other day. Was doing more updating than modelling with it.

Blender is a handful to learn but when I see what people have done with it It is worth it. After all, I have some extra time on my hands now.

The latest release has a new render engine (Cycles) that also has unbiased GPU support

and i think blender has rigging?

i dunno if this is too messy a uvmap ... wanna to use it as a sky and ocean. there's no 'equator' to make a smooth seam

or, could make those sticking out triangles one strip for a horizon hazy

@Dana: sorry, can't offer any advice there, other than general debugging techniques (dissect the problem into simpler components, confirm each step of the chain is working, try with different controls, try with a different database, etc etc).

    ...well starting the Big Install.

Have 3.1.2.32 and 4.5.1.56 up and running along with the genesis Starter Essentials. Looks like I have the pathways right for the two drives as all the basic Genesis content opens up, the Runtime structure is seen in the Poser Directory formats and the 3.1A folders are in the Daz Studio Formats folder.

CMS seems to be running pretty smoothly.

Even the Built in Aniblocks work as I have a "Dancing Genesis". Cool, I finally can do animation now.

Oooh it looks so nice with that huge Viewport too. Wish I could send a screen shot but the Workstation is not online.

Still have a long way to go to get enough content loaded to actually create and render a scene. May give the library setup a try first though I still plan to customise the S3A runtimes.

Keep getting crossed up with both systems running as I have the mouse connected to the Workstation but still find myself trying to use it to click on things on the notebook.

That's OK. I'm about to dump the wizard control. I hope I can fake a wizard with another control. I think I saw something about that using the DevXpress tab control. We'll see. I really wanted to get this working. It's a basic control that comes with VS. And it's not a new control, it's been there since VS 2005 at least. VB.NET is not my area of expertise...that was Visual FoxPro...but MS has dropped that and by now has dropped support for it...which is why I needed to learn something new.

..well things are chugging along nicely with the installapalooza. No where near as bad as I thought it would be as this machine is really really fast. Installing all the .trx content first and just letting the installers handle it for now. Yeah could have used the Install Manager but not sure if it allows for custom settings (I always click off the Start Menu and Desktop shortcut links).

So far everything is going where it should.

Only had only two installers fail (Perfect Jewelry & Daydream). Will recopy them later and if they still don't work will download them again (maybe they were corrupted).

Install Manager doesn't create Start Menu or Desktop shortcuts.

...wasn't aware of that. My thinking was it would use the "default" settings which include the shortcuts.

Anyway kind of moot now as since I already manually installed content it brings up an error message that the folder isn't empty.

Another question, how does it know when to install to the 4.5 Library and when to install to the Poser format runtime folder? I have older content that I would like to direct to the traditional runtime structure so it can be used in 3Advanced. as some plugins I like to use still have not (and most likely won't) be upgraded for use with 4.5.

@Misty: I think a better question to ask would be "What doesn't Blender have?" XD
Sculpting, particles, compositing built in, even a game engine and more XP
And yeah there is Vray for it, but I can't recall if it's an exporter thing or if its built in *shrugs* but I saw some videos for it on cmiVFX's site.

Mm got a new book on digital painting in Photoshop. o3o

You can specify multiple install locations, and choose which products/versions to install where.

Yeah, I've seen a few small games made in it, and one "official" game made by the Blender Foundation as an example (Yo Frankie or something)

i'm so bummed new wings3d took away create texture options. but i can do that last bit in wings95.5

makes as much sense as poser taking away extracting thumbnails from rsrs. not that i would uninstall p7.

means never being able to go fully forward.

pp12 setup room iz making me crazy. if you don't make a bone for every defined group in one session, it deletes the groups.
never thought i'd miss the no_bones thingee.

i really, really wish we could load a preset joint type from the library, like an abducting joint.
    and merge 2 figures.
