    Flash Fiction Drop! "Wings"
    --------------------------------------

At first, the fact that the cat hadn't come home didn't worry me. He's done this befoee, out sowing his wild oats I suppose. I went ahead and left the cat door unlocked for his return.

I put food out, just in case, and after a few days I noticed that it was gone, but no sign of the cat. I did see odd footprints, though.. looked like birds feet. Birds?

Sometimes I'm sure I've heard cawing. We get a lot of crows and ravens here, really big birds – about a foot or more tall. Most of the time they stick to the trees, but ever since the squirrels all vanished they seem to be everywhere.

Just a few days ago I finally caught one coming through the cat door. A big crow, must have been ten inches tall, just shoved the door aside and hopped in like it owned the place. Sucker gave me the evil eye, too, like it was daring me to chase it off, Jumped right on to the cats food bowl and started in on the cat chow. I had no idea a bird would eat that stuff, but I never understood how the cat could stomach itm either.

One weird thing is the neighbors. We used to talk all the time, then they started to move out. There's almost nobody left on the cul-de-sac now, just me and the little old lady up the road.

Haven't seen her in a while. I hope she's all right. She feeds the birds all the time, she's god folk.

Yesterday morning I found a whole flock in the kitchen. I don't see how that many could have fit through the cat door, but I counted 20 before I decided to just open the bag of cat food and leave it behind.

They just stared at me, unblinking. That was the first time I felt afraid. No sound, no movement, just staring, staring. I could feel them even after I closed the door.

I'm sure I heard pecking at the windows this morning. I'm out of cat food, out of my own food, everything ended up dumped in the kitchen and I'm too afraid to go back in. Looking out the windows today I saw the trees black with birds, more of them than leaves, cawing, talking to each other in mutterings and whistles.

The phone doesn't work, looks like they broke the line. They're all I can hear now, just a continual pecking and muttering, in some nameless ancient tongue of ravens. I've locked myself in the bedroom, surely someone will come by eventually to see what's going on, right?

I hear wings at the window.

You know, I just remembered...two days ago I had this dream. A little background first:
I have bird feeders in my yard. I love watching the birds come, and I get a good variety. Lately I can't afford it often. I did get a bag of seed at BJ's a couple of weeks ago. Common Grackles, similar to crows but not as large, but still larger than songbirds, are greedy. They'll sit on the feeder and chase off any other birds that attempt to feed. They have large, scary beaks. OK...

The dream. I woke in the morning to go to the bathroom and heard the noise that grackles make. I looked out the window and my feeder, my yard, my deck, my fence, my trees, were all full of grackles...hundreds and hundreds of them! :gulp: Then I woke up.

    Odd coincidence.

Scary! So, those are the fireflies I keep hearing about from Poser users. I've only used PoserPro 2010 once and didn't get them, but I might not have used the type of lighting that makes them. I don't know.

...guess nobody cares about my lil' old Daz 4.5 (64 bit) drop of the "Kid" (the second pic I did on the new workstation).

...no comparison against the Pro grade stuff I guess.

Hmmm... Okay this thread grows so fast I missed that completely. I like the quality but the Make Up threw me. Not the KID I'm so used to seeing.

...well, for one, the clothing was pretty much all I had installed at the time. Second used the new Geisha MATs and was a little bothered buy the fact the facial MAT didn't cover the whole head. Even with the Yuriko hair the facial makeup does not go all the way up to the hairline. Also Yuriko hair does not have a white hair MAT which I found was a big disappointment.

So far, on three "classic" Japanese items I have not been very pleased.

    Geishas
    Yuriko Hair
Way of the Samurai (which I addressed on the N & B forum).

I'm considering uninstalling all of them and contacting sales CS and getting refunds.

Looks like I'm back to square one for my Bushido Cowgirl.

You mean this? Actually, I remember that and was going to say something but I guess I got distracted. It's been a tough few days for me.

I like it. Is that a recurring character of yours? Did you do the make-up texture?

...yes, she is my namesake and my current avatar.

Actually, considering what I wrote in the post above, I should have just done the makeup myself.

I just looked at the first two items, and to be fair, it does show that the make-up doesn't go all the way up the forehead. And the hair says 4 colors, I don't know what that means, since there is black and grey hair shown in the promos...unless they meant the color stripes, which are decorations to me, not hair color.

I always look at the promos. If it's not in the promo, I don't assume it will be in the product. Often, assuming at DAZ3D gets you in more trouble than it usually does. :shut: You can always ask the creator in a PM if you want to know. But I don't know how often they actually respond to those things here.

..I already posted my request for a refund of all three items.

The Promo pics do show the geisha makeup meeting with the Yuriko hairline.

For Kelly's makeup, I will go back to using the Lotus Flower MATs which do cover the entire head. As to her hair, well I guess I have to become inventive (although I now have the Garibaldi Hair System) and have to figure something else out for her clothing. The Samurai situation is a big disappointment as I have been waiting for that to go on sale for some time and am surprised to discover that there are no adjustment or fitting morphs supplied (considering the list price). I've seen better in freebies.

I don't see the Yuriko hair in any of the Geishas for Aiko 5 promo images. If you are going by the promo images in the Yuriko hair page, you can't assume that what you are seeing is the Geishas make-up. It may look a lot like it, but unless they say it (I really wish they would make the PAs list things like that in the description or resources or some place) you can't assume that's what it is. The promo artist might have done something to turn the forehead white, or it might be another make-up resource that looks similar. I have seen at least one that has that type of lip make-up, on another site I think.

As for the Samurai thing, I didn't look for that. But I agree, prices here are too high for a lot of the items. But no fitting morphs? That's terrible!

...it was the pics though that sold me on the hair and Geishas MATs as they were both released at the same time.

So very disappointed as I finally thought I had what I needed to complete my Genesis version of "The Kid". Not completely sure if the Lotus Flower MATs will work as they are for V4/A4.

Supposedly you can use V4 textures on Genesis, with some kind of UV swapper or something. It's not an extra thing, it's built in to DS4+ as far as I understand it.

Sorry, KK, I missed that pic. The Forum notification bots have been sporadic for me lately. I usually scroll up to see if I was the last post before the current one in the thread, but apparently failed to do that here. It's a great render! I had a make-up problem as well - I bought the Clown costume only to find the makeup wasn't in the set, but was part of Sad Clown Theo. I bought Theo, though, and have found that it has some nice content in it.

Trying to decide what to cook to nibble at all weekend? something that's tasty with salsa and sour cream :) :)

i'm perusing an actual diabetic cookbook, iffn you can believe it !! lol

    lesse Chunky Hawaiian Spread

1 can Crushed Pineapple well drained
    1/2 light sour cream
    3oz softened light cream cheese
    1/2 mango chutney

Beat crushed pineapple, sour cream, cream cheese, and chutney.
    cover and chill 1 hour.
    serve with crackers.

i'd rather serve with celery sticks. yummayumma.

    Creamy Lime Dipping Sauce

6 oz vanilla fat free yogurt. (fat free? substitute low fat)
    2 tbsp minced fresh cilantro
    2 tbsp lime juice
1 tbsp minced jalapeno pepper (ouchie  )

Aha!!! The third one in the top row of that image is the make-up that was in the promo for the hair! I know because of the rosey cheeks. I'm not absolutely positive, but it sure looks like it to me! I knew it wasn't from Geishas!

Well, the Grackles here are easily scared away, but they gain their courage back quickly. I just stand in the window and wave my arms once and they all fly away. Actually a couple of years after I moved here, one morning before I went to work, I saw one caught on my neighbor's fence. Its foot had slipped off the top of the picket and slipped down and got wedged between two pickets. It was a six foot stockade style fence. I got a table knife and slid it up between the pickets from below the foot and pushed the foot up. The bird flew away immediately. At first, though, it tried to nip at me. So I got something to shield me from it while I freed it. If I had left it there, it surely would have died.

    ...thanks.

All these years I've been at this and I still feel like a n00b with 4.5.

The more I work with it the more I feel they are getting things right. For one thing the newest 3Delight renders pretty darn fast when you have the extra threads and memory to spare. The pic of Kelly I did above which made use of UE lighting finished in something like six minutes even with that long hair and the transmaps in the Woodland Realms Playset. That would have choked and sent up the red flag on the old system.

...hmm seems there is a lot of this going around in the promos lately. They used to list what all was used in the promo pics. Rendo does that, Daz should too.

Nice character MATs those would work good. Raiys's store was just on sale too (bugger). Can't afford the full price so I'll have to wait and see if there is going to be a "Kvetchup" sale at the end of all this.

As I mentioned i still do have the Lotus Flower character (which I originally used for the Gen 4 version which has very similar makeup to Geishas) As long as I set the UV to V4, they should work.

Currently having a bit of fun with Toon Amy. I really need to get everything installed but finding again how much fun it is to create new characters & scenes. I cannot only mix & match clothing & props, but characters now as well.

Also getting ready to start on my first RRRR challenge entry in some time.

...Woolly, great little story. You have a good feel for suspense.

Just had the chance to read it as I was struggling so hard with content that refused to work the way I thought it would last night.

Ticket was resolved today and I now have the credit in my account.

I discovered what makes Daz Studio 4.5 run slowly on my computer: Sally Mae hair for Genesis has 81,500 verticies. It takes about five minutes to render with shadows on. Most of the other hairs that I have don't slow down Studio 4.5.

ok, I need to finish my homework. lol
