Thanks for the quick answer. This would drive me nuts all day and I can't play until tonight.
also if you have use Facegen to create your own face/body textures you can use the ones you created for your g3 characters on g8
No. Michael 7 uses a different UV then Michael 8. You can, however, use the base Genesis 3 Male textures on Genesis 8 Male, and if Michael 8 is like Victoria 8 you should be able to use the G3M textures on him as well.
No. Michael 7 has a different UV then G3M. If you put Michael 7's textures on G8M you'll see there are visible seams and slight alignment issues.
While G3M and G8M share the same UV. Michael 7 has a different UV.
Though if Michael 8 is anything like Victoria 8, one should be able to use the base G3M and the base G8M textures on him.
Actually Michael 8 uses the base male UV, there is no Michael 8 UV
A lot of G3M mats also use the base male so they do work.
I didn't say Micael 8 uses a different UV. I said Michael 7 uses a different UV than G8M.
Michael 7's mats on base G8M:
As you can see, there are visible seams and misalignment of the nipples. sandman_max specifically asked if "Genesis 8 Male/Michael 8 can use MIchael 7 skins" - you said yes. That statement isn't correct. Any skins made with the Michael 7 UV will have seam and slight alignment issues if applied to Genesis 8 Male. But (as I told sandman_max): "You can, however, use the base Genesis 3 Male textures on Genesis 8 Male".
Sorry you are correct
but a lot of skins for M7 use the base UV which works fine from what I can tell.
Not quite. He can use G3M skins, but not M7 skins. Although a 3rd party product may arrive that allows you to use M7's skins on G8M, like this one for G8F

Of all the characters I have that I have tried only M7 doesn't work, all other except the base characters use the base male uv.
By the time the proliferation of unique UVs got ridiculous most PAs opted to use only the base UV. So the only skins that you can count on there being an issue with are the DAZ Original character base skins.
Mind you, there probably are a few ringers in there where a PA *did* use the unique UV rather than the base UV, but by the time G3 got going most people were getting pretty fed up with a new unique UV ever couple of weeks.
Hopefully DAZ have finally got the message, as I am fairly sure neither V8 nor M8 have their own UV.
Oh goodie! FINALLY a gay Michael in the bunch! *smirks* I'm gay so I can joke about it! Just sayin'!
I really like G8M and M8! I think he's got a bit of a Brad Pitt thing going on here:
just been tdoing more testing you can use g3 skins you've created in Facegen on G8 figures as well as skin textures of other G3 skins you bought but from what I've tried so far the Daz original skins will show seams for some reason if you try to use those tried with Darius7 on G8 didn't work this one here is using FW Quiton HD for M8 one of the characters out of the Michael 8 Pro Bundle wearing Genesis 3 skin FWSA Tchanum HD for M7
M8 reminds me more of Henry Cavill. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Cavill
That not really a true assessment. The reality was you had the same PAs that made the majority of the figures for the generation just used the base UV, NOT the UV for the figure they were designed for. Still the best was to make the UV for the figure it was designed for, so you're still going to have some stretching and positional issues using making a texture on the base then using it on a morphed figure that is different. Obviously people will accept that risk for one UV, but not everything will work well in areas such as lips and eyebrows. But it really a issue of accepting less care in using skins with different morphs, than using a more exact UV.
Or you can just use DAZ Studio's map transfer to convert M7's skin to the base male.
I just bought Michael 8 and when I click his icon, nothing loads but some blocks! Whats up with that?
If it is because I have to have Genesis 8 male character....I can not find that anywhere on the Daz site?
Can someone tell me how to get it?
You probably need the Genesis 8 Male Starter Essentials. Load up the DAZ Install Manager and it should be there as a free download.
It will be in your Product Library - type "Essentials" in the filter box (or this link will probably work: https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_42071
If you normally use DIM then same thing applies - just type "Essentials" in the search box and it should show up.
Ok...Got it. Why doesn't Daz make this info available to folks on the Michael 8 page? To us to make us have to first, freak out when nothing loads, and then make us go in a panic to get help in the commons. Just weird!
Thank you Melanie for your help and Arne207. Without you, I would have been completely lost after a two hour search for it. Even the search engine didn't agknowledge a Genesis 8 Male. Very strange way to do things.
Thanks again.
Methinks you brought out the Brad Pitt in him with your romantic and triumphant treatment.
Hee hee, maybe...thanks @xyer0 ! I do love my M8 and Brad's not hard on the eyes either.
Ooh, he's lovely too...
Henry Cavill is exactly who crossed my mind ;).
Laurie
M8 and tweaks with Jurou mats
NICE!
I would've posted this sooner, but I have my own shaders, and I spent a couple of days creating a gender-flexible texture set for G8F only to discover that the UVs for G8M were just different enough to render my hard work useless for G8M. I really didn't feel like going through the whole process all over again, at least not so soon. Just today, however, I found a utility for sale that would allow me to swap UV sets for G8M and G8F, so I was finally able to do this render of M8.
Here is my render of Michael 8. I fooled around with the skin to make it glisten.
I cannot shake how much the main promos look like they were taken from a low budget 1990's sci-fi, possibly Canadian.
While that gives me a bit of a chuckle, there is just something that feels very "off" about Micheal 8 and the whole of Genesis 8 for that matter. So many of these promos look both better and worse at the same time. It is extremely hard to explain but I'll try. One thing for sure is the overly waxy look these images possess, they could pass as wax figures in a museum, and wax figures are often super creepy. That is instantly off putting to me. Also, Micheal 8 is one really white dude in many pics, like he hasn't spent a day in the sun in years. That seems strange for a character who is supposed to be a bit more mature, and thus weathered. He has the skin of a teenager, which I thought would be a different product, lol. It just seems to me that there is a one step forward and one step back compared to some of the outstanding characters that were released at the end of the 7 cycle. V8/M8 (at least in the pictures I have seen posted) do not look as interesting as, say, a character by Kayleyss.
My guess as to why is perhaps the new dual lobe specularity settings are being used a bit too much. As this is new, it is something people are still figuring out. Maybe it will get better, but in general Genesis 3 had pretty much figured that stuff out. IMO, in so many pictures of G8, the skin lacks any significant detail, and this breaks the realism. Where did the detail go?
