...well hit a snag with the new setup (currently at a late night hotspot).

Apparently the connection I get is good, but when I start FF all I get are timeouts and Unable to Connect errors. Just got done with a troubleshooting chat session which gave me a few suggestions to try when I get home. Tried to get online with the old wireless, but I think it knows it's days are numbered for the connection was so slow, made the the life and death of a G2 type star (like our sun) seem fleeting.

Odd, I use FireFox all the time now and don't have any issues with it with my Comcast connection. It's actually faster than IE.

...for me it is just getting the service started. I have a link to activate it online but cannot get to the page to do it (cant even get the Comcast site itself to come up) because I keep getting the timeout/unable connect errors. IE is no better. Windows shows the connection itself to be fine so I don;t know what the issue is. I'm not all that savvy about networking so I don't know if there is stuff I need to do on my end on windows to get it to work.

I use Time/Warner as my provider and Chrome as my browser. No connection problems as long as I pay my bill. lol

..well Comcast/Xfinity is my ISP. Never signed up on their site until tonight so I could do the chat session. As I understand that same sign is also the one I need to use for the net sign in so that may solve some of the issues.

Sorry, I can't help you there. It's been a while, but I seem to think it wasn't bad setting up my home network here. Maybe things have changed, I don't know. I think there was a wizard that took me through the steps. I'm a programmer, but I don't do networking or hardware stuff unless I have no choice. Unfortunately for me, that is now the case, since my best friend passed away last September...he was my network and hardware guy.

..thank you. Had to do a bit of "creative" postwork to make sure she was TOS freindly. I really am having fun again with this in spite of the whole DIM & Smart content thing being pain in the bum. I do have to say by itself, 4.6 is definitely the best version of this app I've seen since I started in this over five years ago.

Interestingly the first version I DL'd was actually 1.0 back in 2007. Found this out when I looked at the last page of content library in my account. The oldest installer I have archived is 1.7. I remember playing around with the old 3D Bridge Pack (which was changed to the 3D Sci-Fi Pack - they basically removed the Songbird base), which of course included the "lite" version of AIko3. Had a long association with that model and while I feel Genesis (Classic) is the "the bomb", I still love working with Aiko for she is actually very expressive (as well as cute) and there is a tonne of support for her both commercial and freebie.

If I can help it,the Gen3 Aiko thread is going to be on the first page a lot.

...coming soon (not Daz soon) Xin Xin and her Bubble Bazooka taking on the baddies.

...I don't need to set up a home network. As a matter of fact I need to take it apart as for some reason on my notebook it is defaulting to it being part of one even when I just had the Ethernet cable plugged in.

The modem they gave me has both a hard wire and wireless connection. The hardwired connection will go to the workstation and I plan to use the wireless feature with the notebook.

That is a network. And you really should consider getting a good router. The hardware firewall in those is much better protection than the Windows firewall by itself. Most of the new ones have both wired and wi-fi connections. Plus you'll be able to easily share a folder on one machine with the other, without having to do the USB stick shuffle. Plus, with a wireless router, you can set up better security and keep your bandwidth to yourself. You just have to remember to set the best encryption method and change the password. You can share it with friends who may come around with their laptops or other wireless devices, but keep the neighbors from using your bandwidth.

    Just a suggestion.

It looks pretty nice. We used to see much nicer sunsets in Fall River, where I used to live last century. But that's on the bay at the end of the Taunton River. I suspect sunsets are always nicer when near water like that.

I have to hop in the shower and go out.

...basically the modem is a router. I've tested both the Wi Fi and hardline and both have a solid connection. What I ran into (I think) was the situation of not having an ISP.to sign on with so FF didn't have any way to actually access the connection through the modem.

My old wireless service (Cricket) was basically my ISP, which is why I could get online once I had a connection. Every time I wnt online it had to do an authentication before opening the gateway. When I tried to activate the Xfinity modem through the Cricket modem, I saw had to go through the same steps which included "authentication" before it would be ready to grant access.

Also, until I went to the hotspot, I had no online account with Xfinity. I couldn't activate the service without their modem active as it had to send the proper signal (like my Cricket modem needed each time I initialisd it) for verification..

Basically, I should not have to purchase another piece of hardware to make this work.

Tomorrow is another day so when I get up I'll try again.

Always lots of time spent with support when changing any service, in my experience. I always think things will be more intuitive than they are. Optimism + Reality = Zero

I think maybe you just haven't had your line initialized, then. You don't have to sign on to get to the Internet. I don't, anyway. I only have to sign on to my account at xfinity.comcast.net when I go there. Broadband is an always on connection. You open a browser and it should see something...of course you may need to tell it your home page(s). But that doesn't have to be xfinity.comcast.net, mine isn't. Unless, of course, you use their webmail online. Mine are fgplus2, daz3d.com forums and account pages, my own site, and Renderosity. They all come up in separate tabs when I start Firefox. I do still use Outlook 2007 for my email client, although I use my domain's webmail for email through that domain.

    ..guess what guys, I'm on.

Either they did a bit of trouble shooting during or after my chat or my initiating my Xfinity account from the hotspot did the trick. 'Got Tone" on both the workstation (though Gmail doesn't recognise me there for some odd reason) and teh Notebook...

    ...At the Same Time!

When I git home decided, well let's give it a shot before heading to bed. Whne I fired everything up the modem went though about ten to fifteen minutes of tests it didn't do the first time I powered it up. Then I received a message about an IP address conflict so I shut down the Cricket programme, opened FF on the workstation typed in Daz3D on the FF homepag and pow suddenly there was the "Daz chorus line" on the screen. OK so then I turned on the Notebook wi-fi, openrd FF and suddenly my homepage there (which is Gmail) came up. I clicked on the "Sign In" button and in moments, there was my inbox with all features showing and no errors popping up as usually would occur.

Time for an appropriate song link:
