...well granted, it isn't an animated story However there are different hand positions I would like to use in different scenes so I'd still have to rig the entire thing.

The rigging isn't the issue, it's not having the interior details that bother me.

If the .obj version at TS cost less than the fully textured 3DS one I'd probably give it more consideration. but to charge as much and then have to deal with all the pain of texturing it on top of rigging the keys is asking too much.

In a story that is so focused on music, it is kind of like doing a WWII graphic novel, you better get all the pertinent items right.

Really can't justify 125$ on my almost non-existent income for an untextured .obj (which is the only format of the one at TS that I can use in Daz). I looked at a .pz3 conversion of it and there are issues with backfacing polys that were definitely visible enough to be bothersome.

It would take me years to get my own modelling skill up to the level to build an accurate accurate mesh with the proper detail.

Do you need that with rigged keys as well? ... was looking at the diagrams of hammer action on one of the grand piano sites - could be an interesting learning experience in rigging (for me)... (`.`)...

... on the other hand, if you don't need to see the dampers rising and hammers hitting strings, but just have the keys so they "depress", that would be a lot quicker to construct <(`.`).</div>
...basically yes just the keys which really wouldn't be all that difficult as once I have one set (white and black) I could most likely clone the rigging across the rest of the keyboard. Damper movement is rather slight so it wouldn't really make much of a difference. Basically what I need is each key to be an independent mesh, not grouped or a single textured "block"..

Actually rigging vertical ("upright") piano would be more difficult as the hammers are in front of the strings rather than hidden underneath and therefore would have to articulate as they would be visible with front panel removed.

Which dude? Mel Gibson, or Robert Downey, jr (Who is also Iron Man)?

It was not Mel so it must be Robert

Yeah, I dislike that (although it is understandable, from a face count point of view)... this is 15 minutes in Blender, and already 700 polys (for the octave at the bottom only...).

Unfortunately I've another task I really should finish first... (attention span of a goldfish emote)... hopefully Ps1 will be inspired to come to the modelling party... :)

Remember all the old B&W movie musicals where every member of the cast just happened to be able to play the piano well?
Exactly what planet were those taking place on? :D

Of course, everyone can play the piano. But not everyone can play music on the piano.

Hey hey it's easy to play music on the piano :)
Just pick your instrument of choice, jump up onto the piano, and start playing. Music on the piano ^_^

Unless you mean playing piano music, in which case that's a different story...

...here are three images of a Steinway D model (found in many concert halls throughout the world).

The first is the keyboard. note the beveling on the faces of the accidentals (black keys)

The second is a shot from above of the plate of with the cross stringing (common in modern day pianos to get the greatest length of string possible) and dampers. This is what most likely eats up a tonne of polys.

The third is an uninstalled the plate without the strings.

The Kawai EX at TS is a total of 238,150 Polys and 262,303 Verticies with a total filesize for the .obj of 8.3 MB so yes, it is a "big" model.

Patient: "Hey doc, Will I ever be able to play the piano after this?"

Doctor: "Don't see why you shouldn't"

Patient: "That's Great Doc, cause I never could play it before"

...at the pub hostpot streaming Beatles, listening to Sgt Pepper (full album). Love their beers but they have a habit of playing too much rap which is not my particular cup of tea (or I should say "pint of ale") when I want to kick back for a bit.

Cant wait until I can do this at home.

I feel your pain. Hubby and I went out one night trying to find a good bar in the area. Came across a bar advertised as being more towards metal/goth/industrial/etc (hell, there's an embalming table inside the front door). Walk inside... get our ears blasted with rap and hip hop. Bartender says that's what they have to play to bring business in until they can change things up some more. Needless to say we walked out after one drink, but did find a better place and it was closer to home- so that's a plus. lol

    ...thank you.

It will also save a lot of Zloty's for coffee drinks at the hotspot so I can get my downloads and sometimes just get a stable enough signal so I can respond to job offers, submit resumes and fill out online applications. It gets nail biting at times as some sites don't save what you entered and you have to do it all over again or when I get the connection working again I find myself backed up a page or two and risk entering some of the same information twice. That really looks good to a prospective employer.

Also be able to upload pics without needing a half dozen tries because of timeouts and connection resets.

Just got home back into slow motion again, but it's only one more evening...one more evening.

...that's looking great, you're fast. I'll try to see if I can find a better image of the strings. The pics I uploaded were off Google Pictures keywords: Steinway D Model.

Considering the beastie i now have polycount isn't as much of an issue as it used to be. Most of the scenes will just be Leela or Lela with one or two others (like "Momma Grande", her music teacher, or her "Bestest Friend" Tracey) in the pic with her.

I need to figure out how to create dioramas (like the MPC and environmental "playsets) so I can use a photo background of an orchestra (no way am I about to set up a 50 - 80 piece orchestra with individual figures, not even sure I can find all the different types of instruments needed without breaking the bank) when she's playing a major concerto.

The Rhapsody in Blue scenes at Carnegie Hall near the end will be a monumental challenge The ones that take place at the Musikverein in Vienna where she is abducted after going backstage will be a lot of "fun" too.
