A silly render I am doing is taking over an hour. It is at 84% done. I can see a major problem with it but I want to finish the render before fixing it.

...one good way to do quick test renders is to set the Render process in Render Settings to "Progressive Render". What this does is allow you to see the entire scene at once as it renders. It will look very grainy at first but then improve in sharpness. This way you don't spend an hour (or more) waiting only to find an error in the scene setup, like say, a character or prop that is "floating" above the floor/ground or something in shadow that you want lit. Most often things like this are easy to spot a few minutes in tot the process.

Just like a normal render you can cancel the process at any time.

That's the one thing I've always liked about Bryce. It gives you 2 options. One is a preview render of just one pass, and the final render is about 4 or possibly 5 passes, the last being the antialiasing pass.

As far as DS goes, one thing I learned while trying to test a scene with AO lighting. Someone suggested I change my render settings to much lower so that it wouldn't take as long. So I tried it, and the next render took about 12 minutes, as opposed to an hour in full render mode.I prefer the adamr001 DAZ Studio Render settings Proof setting for all my test renders now. The rest of the Set is just as good and offer some very good base settings to start with for other quality type renders if I do not just use them as they are. I have added the Render settings as Custom Actions so they are in a list in my Scripts Menu for fast use. They are just script files you drop as a folder into your DAZ Studio Scripts folder. Easy to use, you also get many good preset render sizes in the set. They can be found here.

Yes, I think I have Adam's bookmarked somewhere, and I believe there were some others on the old forum, though I don't recall now who had posted them.

To me the important thing is not to try for a final render quality while you're still playing with setting up the scene. Just save that until you're pretty sure the scene is set.

There is some fried chicken here, in a couple of the Diner Food products, too...but it's not quite the same as a bucket of chicken like at KFC.

I prefer dead bird on a tray, DUF doesn't sound so edible :)

I thought I already got Sun Hair for Genesis 2 Male but it is showing as a new item.

Something weird is happening there... earlier this afternoon it came up as "Purchased" for me... but now it's showing as new (and looking at my Product Library I definitely purchased it back in Dec/2013).

I'm sure it'll be straightened out sooner or later...

There were a few of the PA Christmas gifts which were actually stated as being Store products offered free for a (very) limited time during the PA giveaway.

Yep. Darc was one of the others that popped back into the Store as a for sale item.

Mine was running for five hours and is still not finished. Not sure if it is crashed or not. Been stuck at 49% for a while.

If you have a lot of objects that need transmaps then it's going to take a long time. My scene is full of glass so it's trying to calculate the reflect and refract.

    nap sounds good.

is a Sunday nap ever meant to be over? i have to get up to put coffee on.

still thinking about the establishing shot. i think carrara might be best for that cuz it haz the terrains.
also thinking about the money shot. it wasn't in the cinema glossary, but i think the money shot is the shot s'pposed to inspire people to watch your movie.

complaint: tdlmake.exe runs slowly when I load Genesis 2 or skin textures that have EHSS. Too bad Nvidia CUDA cannot make tdlmake run faster. Guess I'll try Octane... lol Just kidding.

edit: I haven't played with Carrara much because my $40 video card is too slow for the open GL preview. Maybe the $65 video card will be better. I have the old Carrara 7express. It comes with nice terrains.

edit 2: I stand corrected: Octane is a renderer like LuxRender and 3Delight. I would still need to load scenes in Daz Studio before I send it to Octane. I cannot really load Genesis in Octane and dress him/her up.

...not comforting, the second (and larger) one near the area in a very short time.

7.6 where I am could result in serious damage to many structures. We have a lot of old restored brick buildings from the late 19th early 20th century in our city centre, particularly in what is known as "Old Town". and along the tram line which runs near the waterfront. A number of buildings in town have a red sign with a large "U" on them meaning they are seismically "unsafe". Parts of the city were built on a clay/silt base which will effectively turn to "jello" in an earthquake. Construction crews working on The Roberston Tunnel for the west side light rail ran into numerous issues dealing with soft wet clay while boring the tunnels, don't want to be on a train in there when a big quake hits.

We also have two bridges that are over 100 years old, one of which not only carries the Amtrak main line to Southern Oregon and California on the lower deck, but all four of our light rail lines on it's upper deck. Bridge maintenance has been an ongoing issue here.
