For a while though was looking pretty eerie just seeing that darkened sphere hanging in the sky with a brilliant Mars nearby.

The "Pacific Northwet" is definitely not the place to live when you have a lifelong interest in astronomy.

    Southeastern Massachusetts isn't much better.

I am not really awake but the weather outside is yucky too. I have forty minutes to get ready to go if I want to leave at 7:30am. Wonder if I can leave at 8:30 but I doubt the weather would be better. Why does the weather have to be yucky on my birthday?

...just woke up, back under the weather again with a scratchy throat. Not sure if it's allergies or something that is going around again however one of my friends has been pretty sick for the last week.

    Other than that...

...that's part of the reason I left the region years ago. Had enough of having spring/summer change back to winter in one (sometimes less than one) day's time.

There was one day back in late March of '77 (after that really harsh winter of '76 - 77) where in Madison WI, it was in the low 70s before noon and by 3:30 PM it was snowing.

One of the worst temperature swings I experienced was up in Stevens' Point WI. It was near 50° at mid afternoon, then suddenly we were hit with whiteout conditions for about a half hour. By around 4:30 PM when a friend and I ventured out from the Student Union on the college campus, there were several inches of wind whipped snow on the ground, and the temperature had fallen to -4° (the low that night was something like -14°). The temperature drop was so sudden, that ripples in puddles caused by the wind instantly froze in place.
