Jag pratar lite gran svenska! (I speak a little, very little, Swedish)

I didn't know about the love-hate with Norway... My friends talked about Finland.

Finland is a different story. Finland was "created by Swedes". The country was "a land inhabited by natives" when Sweden decided to colonize it, called Tarvastland. They didn't have a written language until a Swede decided to make the bible in Finnish and had to invent a written language, Finland was once the largest piece of private in Sweden (owned by Bo Johnsson Grip), at the time when the Baltic Sea was a Swedish inland lake. Later Sweden lost Finland to Russia in war, and it was set free by the Soviets after the Russian revolution (when Finland had their own bloody civil war).

Norway celebrates May 17 as their National holiday, the day in 1905 they were set free from Sweden after several hundred years as a puppet state, first to Denmark for many years and later to Sweden.

    not really accurate...
May 17 is our constitution day. This year we are celebrating the 200 years anniversary of the constitution.
Dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden is celebrated on June 7.
We don't really celebrate this day, but it is marked.
Norway as a independent nation is only 109 years, but when we got our constitution we already felt independent.
True, there is a love/hate relation between Norway and Sweden, but these days more love.... actually the young Swedes love Norway that much that that a lot of them emigrates over here. (Hidden invasion... ;-) )

And we do speak almost the same language in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Actually Norwegian might be classified as a Danish dialect. The old Norwegian language is today spoken on Iceland.

You're right! And Yes, Sweden and Norway do have a funny relaitionship, we do love each other but still tell funny jokes about each other. But I'm Scandinavian I use to say, 1/4 Norwegian, 1/8 Danish, 1/8 Finnish and 1/2 Swedish.

this could be a delicate challenge by the look of it, egg shells are very thin. let's not walk on them!

I learned the Norwegian because I have make films in Scandinavia during more than twenty years, but the Swedish variations are quickly learned, especially that, thanks to Bernadotte, the Swedes use some words from French origin…
Now, I am not sure of good speech any more…
If we made a thread in Scandinavian languages ?;-)

Ok all, WIP thread is now open. Please start submitting your WIP.

1 Each submission must incorporate at least 2 (TWO) objects created or significantly enhanced in Carrara for that image.
2 Each submission must also incorporate at least one object using a water shader, that cannot be a lake, river or ocean as their object. It can be a glass of liquid, a tear, rain drops, slobber etc. It can have a lake or ocean in your render, but will still need another object with a water shader.

Notice the extra week to render-

    Dates to Remember:
    - WIP Thread Opens: 9:00 PM ET May 12, 2014
    - Submissions Open: 9:00 PM ET May 19, 2014

My first WIP for this new challenge.
Here, I built all myself, except the characters and clothes of the two nurses whom I strongly modified.
The glass of the door is a basic water texture preset of Carrara.

Great use of the water shader DUDU_00001!

Just sketching out a concept. I plan to use the water shader to make tears, but I think there will be a problem if I try to do this as a toon, which I originally planned. I might have to use a regular render. Everything is C8.5 but I need a ruling.

OK, this is a famous one-liner, but does it count as a punchline? If this fits, then I will try to clean it up.

    Agreed... and a cool render!

That looks cool! Which Toon are you using, Carrara's in-house Toon? YaToon? DCG?

I have to read the rules to see if I can enter an animated GIF as an entry. The best way to illustrate my punchline works very well with an endless loop.

Let me ponder, I'm unsure and don't know. Pros? Cons?

I can't see any reason why you can't enter an animated gif.

    Yippeeee!
The plus side for me is that I could tell the joke I want to tell.
The possible downside is that it's a challenge to get the rendered gif small enough in file size... so the entry wouldn't have the higher resolution possibilities of the stills. Not to mention the degradation in the crossover.

But for this theme... I can really see using it ;)

Here is my WIP, this is my start of the lettuce. Need to add an alpha map to give the edges a shape.
I tried to use colors and scratch brushes for the texture but it turned out to look like a watermelon, so I photoshopped a leaf onto the texture map.

Nice start on the lettuce, although at the moment the color seems closer to cabbage.

Just a suggestion, but remember you can mix shader functions with image maps to get new effects or enhance the look of the image map. I might also add a little translucency to the leaves as well.

Yum! Just ate a bowl full of Ice burg! I'm kind of addicted to green leafies these days! Well, along with my steak ;)

    Darn...
It's no wonder that everything I've been saying turns out to be silly, or some wild tale.
I just went to the privy only to find that I've been full of crap! :ahhh:

Darts is close to my punchline here!

Here is my lettuce darker, I added a gradiant color green that goes dark-light-dark plus added the alpha channel for the rough edges.

    That lettuce looks great.

Well, there was no objection to paying tribute to the rascally rabbit's one-liner, so I've decided to go with it. Here is the concept bunny rigged and posed. Time permitting, I will start from scratch to make the models for the long-eared king and sir loin of beef. The shapes are fairly simple. The whiskers will be the biggest problem if I stick to the toon style render.

    Nice rabbit!

I used physics on small planes to make the dressing appear to be poured over it.

Hey... that image looks fantastic, but it precedes the punchline!

First WIP, homemade bowl with flowers in the bottom, and a transparent liquid with ripples.
Flowertexture and ripple displacement made with FilterForge. Bowl made in Carrara. FilterForge filters also my creations btw.

    Vodkabottle from Post Apocalyoptric Bar
Cap shaded with default Crome, glass with default glass
Shaded a cylinder with DP Liquid Poolwater as vodka in the full bottle
Created a Vertex object for pouring vodka using extrude on a circular plane.
Used DP Liquid pool water for the pouring vodka vertex object

I have an idea, but I'm still debating on what the motivation for a water shader would be in my image.

Beautiful start. Great use of displacement for the liquid surface.

I am sure I am not alone in struggling with how I plan to approach the water shader. Transparencies really don't work well in the toon renderer. Because we get up to 2 entries, I may use the photorealistic renderer for my second entry.

    Can you say "metaball"?
