I love Dragons, and I'm loving this one so far, too. I was worried the renders would take too long, as the spot render tool seems to have a bit of trouble with the HD skins; but this render took just about an hour and a half, so final render times aren't so bad.

It took me a while to figure out just what was bothering me so much about this new version. It's the wing membranes. They look like an afterthought almost, as if not even attached to the dragon.

I'll likely buy the base and morphs anyway, but that bothers me a lot. As a rigged base mesh I'd normally just grab this as it would be fun to add the details and create better textures, but how do I get around the wing membranes?

I'd like to see wire-frame render to see what would be involved in attaching the membrane properly and if it's a completely separate object?

To show what I mean, the dragon 3 with the subdragon below.

Got the Pro package and I'm so happy :-). 'Course I'm a sucker for dragons, so it was an easy sale. There's lots of variation - enough to keep me happy for a while I think. Here's a quick render in Octane.

    Nice lighting

I'm going to piggyback on this and say it would be neat if someone did (or is doing?) an alternative "wing" pack with some various options: quad wings, maybe some tendrils or tentacles, or something feathery.

Also, would be very neat if there was an option to geo-graft wing membrane to the arms, i.e. after turning off the existing wings, make wings that attached to the arms (or else turn off the arms, and add hands to the wings.. something like that)

Aside from those wanting more wing options, for THIS set I'd love to see a morph that would allow the user to make the wing spines that the wing membranes are attached to thinner. That was about the only thing that made me think "this could be better". I'm sure we all have our own desires on how we want our Dragons to look this is mine. These spines, **TO ME**, look too thick!

Of course! Sorry, I'd noted that one before release but then it slipped my mind in the frenzy of trying to sift through the details of what's been released so far. Thanks for reminding, it's probably why the idea came into my head in the first place.

I was thinking some dragon might have been a little too friendly with a mountain goat. *blush, wink*

is a vendor working on different wing style options?

I was wondering/thinking the exact same thing.

I was imagining that it would be cool to geo-graft not only feathered bird wings to the dragon, but also different styles of bat wings with different bone and muscle structures and attachment points. Feather winged dinosaur anyone, not to mention other directions? Its tempting me.

It took me a while to figure out just what was bothering me so much about this new version. It's the wing membranes. They look like an afterthought almost, as if not even attached to the dragon.

Yep. This is one of those believability/quality issues I mentioned earlier and which disturbs me. It bothers me that we seem to have taken a step backward in abandoning the single, unified mesh for the wing that gave us nice smooth transition from the fingers of the wing to the membranes between them in the subdragon, as well as a thickness to the membranes, in favor of the less realistic separate meshes for the membranes as found in the millennium 2 dragon.

In total agreement, as I mentioned earlier. *wink*...

...In the earlier DAZ dragons this area looked much more natural and believable, as did the thinner meta carpals and phalanges making up the fingers of the wings...

Yep, I'm finding the new dragon plenty versitle for my tastes.

(texture is the default, color shifted to purple... 'cause my daughter loves purple.)

Your purple dragon creates a lovely "C" shape, and the tail draping over the wall is very appealing. Love the render!

I agree, RAMWolff. I'd like to be able to control that area, make it more graceful, less clumsy.

Some great looking Dragon renders popping up in this thread! And some interesting thoughts on the new Dragon 3. It's quite a versatile base so you can expect some fantastic add ons over the next few days and probably even months, so keep the feedback coming! Heres a little render of the DA Firedrake & DA Dragons Gold. The humanoid is G2M with some great looking new gear from Mec4D which is Coming Soon.

    @ RAMWolff

"Looks great but in allot of the images I see a bevy of horns for the dragon and yet I don’t see any mention of them on any of the product pages."

If you like your Dragons to be a little more more er… horny, the DA Firedrake contains a lot of attachments including morphable back spikes, a beard and some heavier body scales. UV Templates are included so creating matching mats is pretty straight forward to use them on other dragons or with other skins. (Let me know if you would like to see a little tut for alternate mats.)

"and perhaps a couple from Design Anvil (I knew DAZ would get you over here eventually! lol)"

:) its great to be here amongst the best artists and most creative PA's in the industry. Each day I'm quite amazed and excited at the quality and advancements of the products coming through the store. And tbh I don't really miss that other site at all :)

PS: Design Anvil… I really really hope your going to do another Solid Geometry plant pack(s). I really love that pack you released a little while back. No trans keeps the render time down allot. I kept trying to remember who released that and then clicked on your link on one of the Dragon product pages and there it was. Totally impressed with your work.

Thanks mate I really appreciate you saying, There is a new set of plants in the works. :)

Really looking forward to seeing more great Dragon renders!

Wow, TWO Pro Bundles in one ONE month!? :bug:

Next week we'll be seeing Aiko 6 with Hiro 6 in the following week. That will give us the other two weeks to cram in Freak and David. :P

Where did you read about Hiro? I just bought go sell before the
Summer sale, now the dragon and Aiko, and also hiro, the dragon might be getting wish listed, no way I'll be able to afford all of them

He looks completely relaxed and petable. But I'm sure looks are deceiving.

What a wonderful render. Render it big and sell it on "Society6". I think people would LOVE it and buy it.

Here's a render I did for the Inspiration contest using the Crocus product, but I've added "DA Dragon's Gold" and changed the camera angle and used different filters. It *was* titled "Flower Child" but now that the child is getting rich, I'm calling this one "Beginner's Hoard".

That's just the Dragon's default texture with pink diffuse and pale yellow specular. The spec makes it look like our reptilian miser has been rolling around in his riches. It wouldn't come off on you or me, but when you weigh a couple of tons and roll with enthusiasm, this is what happens.

I'm getting attached to this dragon fast. Is he better than his predecessors, or am I just ready for a dragon at this point in my life? I don't know, but I feel compelled to buy stuff. Lots of stuff. Alas.

Don't worry about me. I'll find a way to manage.
