I apprehended a tiny felon... Meet Corky...
Apparently my spring mouse came early this year...
Usually around March or April we'll get an outdoor mouse indoors for a few days... My guess is they wake up from hibernation and are starving so they find their way indoors and shortly thereafter they are arrested and I then deposit them at a nature preserve a few miles away... So far they are alway Deer Mice, and that's what Corky is.
Corky is a cork eating vandal who fell for the old "Free Peanut Butter" ruse... It's too cold for the next few days to evict her to the nature preserve, so she's living in this little fish tank/mouse penitentiary until the snow melts and she can be released on her own recognizance, primarily that she never return to this residence.
Fun fact... many Deer Mice will nest/hibernate in trees... they will gnaw their way into dead branches and hollow them out to make a home... usually they choose smaller diameter branches which may break in a storm... if you've ever found a weird branch with a finger diameter tunnel in it, stuffed with fur and seed pods, it probably was a Deer Mouse's residence (well, at least in the U.S.).
wary of mice trying fence wooden nickels.
...I have family in Kansas City so they were my choice to win it all after Green Bay lost to Tamp two weeks earlier. Really wanted to See a Green Bay Kansas City Superbowl though as it probably would have been a more competitive game.
Both teams played in the First Superbowl (originally titled the AFL - NFL World Championship) 54 years ago in 1967. Green Bay won that one 35 - 10 while the halftime show included performances by Al Hirt, the Grambling State and Arizona University marching bands, and "The Bell Rocket Airmen" An interesting side note is that unlike current superbowls, the game was not a sellout even given a local television blackout in Los Angeles where the game was held.
The cost of a 30 second commercial spot then was 42,000$ which, even adjusted for inflation would be a bargain today (332,000$) vs the actual cost of 5.5$ million.
...I feel similarly about packaging designers. I still feel they have a sadistic mean streak when it comes to us arthritics.
Hence why I have to keep a large scissors and a box knife in a kitchen drawer.
siri tried to explain existentionalism to e but it sounded like gobbldeegook. i think it has something to do about existance.
something about the absurdity of life? i think i might be existentialist.
Lord Bryon had to flee his country, was his poetry that bad?
i asked her what facism is cuz i only have a vague notion, all i i got out of her explanation is it started in italy.
They probably don't want you to feel that way though. I don't think you should feel bad about them taking you to the stores.
Complaint: Arghhh..., I've just spent the last 45 minutes futzing around with my new 2-port KVM switch. It worked fine last night. I shut everything down (computer, monitors, switch) but this morning when I turned it all on again, I got no satisfaction! No image or attempt to display an image on the monitor from either of my computers. Grrrr...
After satisfying myself that yes indeed it was NOT working. I set about finding out exactly WHAT wasn't working. I was able to prove that both computers were functioning by turning on their dedicated monitors. Then found cables and computers close enough that I could test the main monitor with a signal bypassing the switch. OK, check! Then I tested the HDMI cable from the switch to the monitor. OK, check! So, then it was down to the switch box itself or possibly the proprietary set of cables that went from the switch to the computers, or the switch's keyboard, mouse, speaker, or microphone inputs. I disconnected all the unecessary cables, because I needed just the HDMI video from a single computer to prove that it did or didn't switch, but to my surprise and dismay, it worked. Then after reattaching all the other cables it still worked. Crap! I don't know what the problem was, but there WAS a real issue, it did not work. I'd tried switching on & off, I'd tried pulling the power plug, I'd tried the local selector switch, I tried it's remote selector switch, I'd tried the mode button state switch, it just didn't work until I stripped it naked and started dressing it again. Perhaps it just needed that type of attention. I'll remember that next time I can't wake it up.
Non-complaint: The problem is resolved for now. And at least it wasn't my brand new $$$ monitor flaking out on me.
polar vortex is a real thing. forced myself to go for a walk. been a long while since i worked on a crochet project. yarn is deep in the closet, dont think i can get to it.
remember phil donahue? not to be confused with don ho. and Mike wallace?
watched a few Ayn Rand interview episodes. she mentioned the reagan years. lol. i totally forgot the reagan years.
potato patatta, makuma mattata
...snow already falling in the hills just west of downtown. .Forecast calls for up to 14" by Friday night with highs only in the 20s and strong winds.
Don Ho? Shhh... you're showing your age.
Don Ho? Any relation to Westward Ho? or Ho Ho Ho? Or Doctor Ho... um, wait a minute..., never mind, forget that last one.
it snowed again last night.
my memory of Don Ho is Tiny Tim playing his yukaleile on Don Ho show
I'm done with the snow... can whoever is closest to the switch turn it off now?
More snow this morning... News12 last night: "Derrrr... one inch to a coating, starting at 7 am and out of here by 9..." it was over an inch by 1:30 AM.
I broke my last unbroken snow shovel earlier, so now I have to play the "find a snow shovel in February" game... February is when you shop for summer stuff like bikinis and gas grills, so it's probably going to be a little unfun driving around from store to store looking for one.
i've been awake a whole 4 hours in a row. this is life in the fast lane. born to be wild.
collateral damage of the polar vortex
I think Don Ho briefly appeared in some Bond movie, though I'm probably misremembering.
Grump grump grump.
That is all.
I just bought two new shovels on Saturday at Lowe's! They had plenty in stock.
Dana
Not surprising. Seeing Tiny Tim anywhere would burn that into your memory permanently. Even that picture of him in his casket is now indelibly part of my life. Tip-toe, through the tulips, with meeee.
I suppose Massachusetts isn't that far away... Did they have the 24 inch wide ones?... I actually found an okayish 18" wide one at a not so local Home Despot.
I say "okayish" because the material is acceptable but the way the stupid company makes the shovel, the scoop part wiggles 3/4" side to side on the handle shaft, which is awkward and annoying... it's not a big deal, I'll just put stainless steel screws through the sides of the connector, but it's annoying to have to fix an obviously crappy design that's obviously crappy for no good reason.
I suspect people in Massachusetts buy snow shovels in a fashion that is somewhat in line with the understanding it snows sometimes... as opposed to Long Island where people only buy snow shovels and snow cleaning supplies on the day it snows like "NOOOOOOOO! I shouldn't have thrown away those last 14 snow shovels each time after it snowed!!"
Seriously there can't be that many people who are first time homeowners or who just broke a shovel... what are people doing to their shovels that every time it snows the stores are sold out of snow shovels instantly?... I go to these DYI stores enough for other stuff to see people cleaning out the snow shovels every time... Are they hoarding them... is there a trick where one can use eight snow shovels at once for better efficiency?...
Actually, I bet if I looked that up on YouTube there would be a video of some guy simultaneously using eight shovels to clean his driveway.... It would probably be titled "Snow Shovel Life Hack- Saves Time" it would probably look like it sounds and end badly.
I probably can fix my 24" shovel, it's just that stupid steel edge guard, two of the rivets popped out and now it snags every imperfection on the ground... I was just being too lazy to dig out my rivet tool and fix it... also I was trying to save the economy one snow shovel at a time.
I didn't look for the exta wide ones...I have one of those. But I wanted the ones with the bent pole, easier on the back.

is shoveling snow as painful on the neck adn shoulders as changing a shower curtain?
intense
That shouldn't be painful. Unless you have some arthritis in your shoulders or neck.

Complaint: I was having persistent pain in my left foot for a couple of weeks so I finally went to see my podiatrist thinking it was an ingrown toenail. Well, he checked me over and trimmed my toenails and we talked about my lifestyle as he worked but he didn't find any ingrown nail problem this time, but he did determine that I had frostbite on the very tip of my left big toe. I asked how that was possible, Well, he said, you said that you walk around barefoot in your apartment, you complained that the floors are cold, you have circulation problems in your legs and feet, and you sleep with your toe pressing against the coverings. and this problem appeared about the time the really cold weather set in. All those things combined just stopped the flow of blood at the point where it is most sensitive to being stopped. "Oh", I said. "What can I do about it"? His reply was"wear loose slippers, keep your feet warm and don't let anything touch the tip of your toe and it might heal a bit". (*sigh*) I said what's causing this? He said, you're getting old. Then he said, you're the second person to come in today with the same problem.
I hate when doctors are right and it means I have to change my life style yet again.
...tries to raise hand.
..well snow falling throughout the city will last through Sunday morning. Winds are supposed to pick up tonight and tomorrow.
Had to turn the heat on, Hmm, I think I hear the meter at the power company going "ka-ching ka-ching"
