Time warps are apparently very obvious to some people.  Just ask Salvador Dali'  (oh, wait..., he's dead... nevermind.)

Complaint:  I still haven't received my 3rd stimulus deposit ($1400).sad  Anybody else on SS in the same boat?

Non-complaint:  Wheee... my doctor sent me money! surprise  Refund for a procedure which needed no co-payment.  Yay!  I'm $5 richer.smiley

Complaint:  My 3 foot USB-C extension cable arrived in the mail today.  The cable that was going to resolve my problem with testing my new internal USB-C adapter that plugged into the motherboard and ran to one of the backpanel slots.  Well, it don't.sad

Non-complaint:  Wheee... now I get to get on my hands & knees (a task much harder than it used to be), unplug a zillion cables from my computer, heft the overly heavy box onto my workbench (a task more dangerous than it used to be), remove the covers, investigate the connections and connectivity of the interior cable.  Wheee...  all sorts of geekish fun.yes

Complaint I don't actually care about...

(File it under "it's your car, drive it into a brick wall, or beat it with a sledgehammer if you want, I don't really care")

So the other day my daughter suggested DAZ to a friend who seems to be interested in digital art (a kid I may add who's parents just shovel money into her hobbies)... so apparently she went to DAZ, saw the main page and didn't get why my daughter suggested a site that sells NFTs.

I was like "What?"... so I looked at the main DAZ page... like the one you get if you Google "DAZ3D" and it's pretty stupidly focused on NFTs with them leading at the top of the page and the rest of what DAZ is about following...

Admittedly, the NFT nonsense is only the Diigitals video for their Shudu NFT collection, and the two buttons underneath, "Shop Now" and "Learn About NFTs", but the kid is actually pretty smart, and the way the ad and graphics are focused, I could totally see why she immediately rejected DAZ thinking it was some kind of NFT site... if you click on either of those two buttons without scrolling down or investigating more, that's what it seems like DAZ does...

My daughter later (today) clarified that's not what DAZ does, but her friend "wasn't really interested, or maybe not... who knows..." as my daughter said.

I would have posted this in that "NFT and the future of digital content" thread, but that's pretty pointless, DAZ gonna do what DAZ is gonna do and that is that.

This totally reminds me of a friend who years ago, despite everyone telling him not to, made a trendy modification to a car he raced on weekends and ended up blowing the engine because of it... also of a friend who started selling AmWay, but that's another can of worms...

A head shaker, I for some reason felt like mentioning, but don't actually care about at this point.

    nft induced apathy.

Complaint: Reading Pavilion of Women. I usually love this sort of thing. There's lots of insight into Chinese culture and life in the 1930s. It's historical and exotic and filled with details on day-to-day life for these people. But the depiction of the MC as cold and aloof isn't likable to me, the love interest annoys me, the same adjectives are used over and over again, the babies all pee on the floor or in bushes, if you go to your friend's house you're expected to tip the servants, people eat until they throw up, and when a concubine threatens to kill herself, it's the damage this would do to house honor that comes to MC's mind, not compassion for the girl as a human being. I know life is and has been harsh, but rarely has a historical novel grossed me out and made me frown so much. (Usually, I avoid depressing and gross things, but there was no indication this book would fall under those categories from the store page)

I'm still going to read it, if only to better understand Chinese culture at that time. But if the author uses the word "pretty" one more time I'm going to scream!

Non-complaint:  Wheee... my USB-C motherboard adapter, and internal cable, and external cable and USB-C thumbdrive all work as originally envisioned.  Yay!smiley

All it took was getting on my knees, unplugging a zillion cables, hefting an overly heavy tower onto my workbench, removing the sides, unplugging the motherboard connection of the adapter, examining closely (really closely... with magnifying glass and strong lights..., those connections are TINY!!!) and finding the keying (not at all obvious) of the socket, and inserting the plug the right way ( not knowing whether or not I had it plugged in the correct way, or fully, originally), testing the native USB-C connector, and testing the external cable with the native socket, then testing the new backpanel USB-C socket, and verifying that yes, indeedy, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.  Happy, happy, joy, joy! yes Then replacing the sides, hefting the overly heavy tower back into its position under the desk, getting back on my knees and replugging a zillion cables. (*sigh*).  Nerd fun all done.  Time for supper and a shot of Apricot brandy, and an evening vegging out in front of the TV watching old "Poirot", Agatha Cristie mysteries.

I think if a book makes you feel like this, it's not doing it's job properly, which is to entertain and enlighten you. Seems it's doing neither really. Throw it down! Bad book!

Yes, that is fast. I just upgraded my CPU to one of those and my memory to 32GB and it really makes a difference. The viewport is so much smoother and faster and even when renders fall back to cpu they are not that slow. I only have a 1060TI with 6GB VRAM so my renders fall back to CPU a lot and this has made it so much better. My CPU stays at only 20% when rendering and I can watch movies and surf the web and play video games while it goes.

That happens to be exactly what I have in my DAZing machine.

CPU: Intel: Core i7-10700, 2.9GHz base freq., 4.8GHz turbo, 8-core 16-thread.   Heating during rendering has not yet been a problem, but I have a monster of a CPU cooler.yes  I think I overdid it on the CPU cooler.blush  I really haven't watched the turbo speeds, but have noticed it being up around 4GHz a couple times.  I don't know what causes it to go into turbo mode.  If I get curious (or frustrated) someday I may look into it, but for now, it's fast enough.

Motherboard is an Asus: Prime Z-490-A.

RAM is Corsair: Vengeance 3200, 2x16GB, CL16. (monster CPU cooler precludes using all 4 slots)

Graphics Processor isn't super, but is an MSI: NVIDIA GTX-1660, 6GB card.

Storage is two Samsung: 970 EVO Plus NVMe-SSD's (500GB & 1TB) for OS & programs.  One Corsair: 1TB SATA-SSD for data.  And two 2TB WD-Black HD's for redundant backups.  Plus two USB3 external drives (4TB  & 6TB) for archival space.

Power supply is Corsair: RMx-850w.  Probably didn't need that much power.  A 650 would probably have been OK.

All in all, I'm very happy with it.  Much faster than what I had previously.   (But then again, a couple monkeys with crayons would have been better.)frown

3Delight zips through renders.  IRay, does quite nicely for small scenes.

will be worth it if it can unthrottle my carrara frames to a 30 frames per second.

without sacrificing the pbr extra maps.

i;ve decided i should force myself to wait on it for 2 weeks.  if i cant stop thinking about it, its true love.

Complaint... sort of... I dunno... maybe... ?

I got an email from DAZ saying a post of mine which was a response to a post that no longer exists was removed from a thread I'm pretty sure I never posted in...

    So... either...

    Dang, that's sucks.

    or..

Thank you DAZ mods for stopping evil alternate universe me from posting nonsense in threads I don't visit...

    I think.

    I don't actually care.

I just hate it when alternate universe me does stuff I get blamed for or gets credit for something cool I did... that guy is so annoying and his goatee is so cheesy!

Actually, I'm kinda jealous of his stupid goatee because mine is stupidly mottled grey and brown in the lousiest pattern imaginable, so I can't really do a goatee anymore, which was my evil me signature facial hair style for most of the late 90s - early 00s.

Cheesy bastard... he probably dyes it.

Maybe I should dye mine too... should I used shoe polish like that vampire guy did when he melted on TV?

Do they make goatee dye?... I know I'll ask that in a store and the clerk won't really listen to what I asked them and they'll bring me goat dye and I'll feel obligated to buy it because they're an idiot, and then I'll be like "really, how different is goat fur and my beard hair?" and then I'll try it and find out the answer is "very" and I'll have nobody to blame but myself... but mostly alternate universe me.

Also I'm wondering if DAZ maybe NFTed my not me post and sold it for millions of Bitdoubloons to pay for their big naked pizza party in Tahiti or wherever big naked pizza parties are popular... I'm not saying everyone at DAZ headquarters is into naked pizza parties, but the joke is on them because alternate universe me is nowhere as funny as me, and that post is pretty much worthless, so they'll just have to get naked at their local pizzeria instead... (which if I'm not mistaken is Settebello's Neapolitan Pizzeria and Naked Pizza Party Fun House)... if they are in fact intending to use all those Bitdoubloons to buy naked pizza...

All this pizza talk is making me want pizza now...

Anyway, so that's what happened before and now that I've shared this with whoever was bored enough to read this, I'm going to go eat dinner or something.

...Non Complaint:  Well had a very nice stretch of spring-like, if not almost summery weather the last four days.  Today was supposed to be overcast and around 60° but for once they got it wrong in a good way as it was sunny and (in the local 'hood) made it to 70° today.

The "official" high at the airport wasn't as warm but then all that is out there are aeroplanes and coyotes.

    decisions

i been methodically saving my poser and ds content to carrara.

i could buy a couple external drives to save the original content, or just delete it all.
i dont imagine ever rendering in poser or ds again.  i think if i moved on from carrara, i'd go to Unity.
