You are a wee bit out on that
The “golden years” of adulthood. It is generally defined as the span of time between retirement and the beginning of age-imposed physical, emotional, and cognitive limitations, and today would roughly fall between the ages of 65 and 80+.

Hey I'm almost 68! I win! Oh wait...

COMPLAINT: I finally got my mobo and 3900x yesterday mornin at about 11 AM. I happily shut my PC down and got to transplantin. Should be easy right? WRONG! After the tedious time of installing everything back to the way I had it on the old mobo, I fired it up. Posted good, now to install the winblows onto a freshly opened m2 evo. Would not install. Spent all day googling on my backup PC, trying this and that. Nothing worked. Nothing worked.

OMG I was so mad, posted a plea of help to a message board earlier, and checked back there. Someone suggested that I take out the GPU's and try booting with onboard. "You idiot!" I think to myself, "This has no on board video!" But I thanked the user, and tried a variation on that. I removed the 1070 from the board, nothing. I knew it, nothing worked again. So I decide to try and take my 2080 super and try it in the slot the 1070 was in. What the hell, why not, sounds stupid, but I tried everything else right. Finally, finally, finally, the windows boot usb would finish the install without crapping out! My ordeal is finally over after 12 hours! Hook up all my storage drives, go to boot back into windows and get to installing.

It took windows 42 minutes to get passed the stupid spinning white circle thingie. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHY WHY WHY! Take the hard drive wires back out, boots into windows in less than a minute. OK, one or more of my HD are screwed. Plugged em in one at a time till I found the culprit. Let windows do the slow boot, drive unrecognized, no letter. OF COURSE it's the one where I keep all my custom redone daz studio backup files. Well, at least it wasn't my runtime/library drive! Just got done reinstalling all that crap! Decide to swap out the cable, and boom, boots up all normal like. Hook up all my drives. WORKING FINALLY!

Then I hear this weird sizzling noise, a loud pop, I look over to my tower, holy crap, the PSU is on fire and spreading to the new mobo! Just kidding, that part didn't happen. I just got done closing up the case! Reinstalling all my programs now, while keeping an eye on the temps with HWmonitor, in case I somehow screwed up placing the cooler. So far so good. 12 core beast! Windows boots a bit slower than I expected, that don't matter though, since I never turn it off anyways. After I get my programs installed, if temps are still lookin good, will begin the tuning process!

On a side note, it worked out of the box with mint and xubuntu, it was windows that was having the issue. Almost decided to give up computer graffics for good and just put mint on it and be done with it lol

    TLDR: Nope

Congratulations on correcting the computer corruption.yes It's never as easy as they show you on YouTube (hint: they've edited their presentation)  Murphy is always looking over your shoulder waiting to point what can go wrong.

I discovered that my new DAZing machine can't be booted to BIOS configuration dialog unless I attach a wired mouse & keyboard, (in lieu of the wireless kbd & mouse) and recable the monitor to one of the motherboard's video ports instead of the graphics card.  Of course I discovered that fact right after I had cable-tied all the cables into place and had to cut the ties to get enough slack to do that.  But at least I didn't have to remove the graphics card to get the motherboard video ports to work.

This thing is a beast, I tuned it a bit, and hit 7588 in cinebench(higher than everything in the list except two xeons). Hasn't even hit 80 celcius yet. A few more 300 second runs without crashing, it's time for the real stress test. Iray benchmark with CPU only lol.

  • I want to get two RTX 3090s.  But nobody has them and they cost an arm and a leg.  And an appendage from another person.  And a magical spell.  And a small bag of gold.

...waiting on the RTX A5000 which has been submitted for OpenCL certification. No concrete specs yet   Early speculation was for 24 GB GDDR6 but now some soruces are saying anywhere between 16 and 32 GB VRAM (although the latter would indicate HBM2).

Given that the A6000 (already available) has 48 GB, 24 GB still sounds like a reasonable estimate for the A5000.

dunking ginger snaps in coffee doesnt work.  has to be tea.

is there a gizmo to steam milk outside of a cappucino maker?
sometimes i just want plain steadmed/frothed milk.

i dont understand how to make a morph asset in carrara.  in the poser days, poser needed a morph channel.  cant remember how to do that either.

    drinking decaf doesnt help memory.

...well G8 actually becomes somewhat useful on its own as I just picked up Zev0's Skin Builder 8 for 13$ and change (with coupon) as part of the Epic Megagrant sale (crikey, about half of my wishist if 60% off).  Now I just need X Transfer (not on sale) to transfer shapes & morphs from G3.

    ETA

Bugger the Megagrant sale is over.

I'd be happy with a single 12GB RTX-3060.  Not "Ti, or "Super", or "Extra 'Specially Good", or "Will Light Up the Albert Hall".  Just a plain ordinary RTX-3060 from a trustworthy manufacturer and vendor.  I now have a new ritual that I perform a few times every day; of checking vendors on the off chance that there's one not yet snapped up.

...if I already didn't have a Titan-X, I'd go for the "standard" 3060 as well over the Ti model as it has 12 GB instead of 8 for the Ti.  Never can have too much overhead for rendering..

The Stella D'oro Swiss fudge cookies are decadent and also good with coffee.

Not one of my own attractions, but yes, I believe he did.  But it is (or was) popular among some of my friends.  It has its "entertainment" advantages for both ends of the stick (pun intended) but after hearing about, and observing its consequences I decided that the disadvantage of not being able to generate a laminar flow stream anymore was a deal breaker.frown

Ponderable:  What is the collective noun for a gathering of Karens?

    An Antagonism of Karens?

    An Obsession of Karens?

    An Unrelention of Karens?

There got to be something I can watch that is more exciting than the Chromecast screensaver. Pretty sure my device does something other than this screensaver. Why do screens need saving? I don't get it.

It's actually a Non Fungible Token for the program you wanted to see.

Back in the day, if you left a TV on pause, played the same video game where the health bar was always in the same sopt, it could burn into the pixels of your screen somehow, and there would always be like a ghost of it no matter what. That is what screen savers were originally for. I thought it was a myth, but a friend who was a mortal combat addict showed me his TV, and sure enough, little ghost healthbars were on the top of his screen lol.

I had a TV with the ghost outlines of the Myst books burned into the screen... it was only noticeable when the screen was all black, but it was still pretty annoying.
