earth day on my calendar lol
$50 later and the lightbulbs have been changed, but the light isn't working!
I hope I don't have to get the landlord involved. He lives in Hawaii and I don't want to give him any thoughts of raising the rent...
Does it have a small aluminum starter cylinder protruding.? If so, try changing that. The bulb will have be removed then just twist to remove the starter.
If not the starter is built into the transformer inside the fixture and the starter or transfomer may easily be the problem. Changing the transformer is probably a job for an electrician.
It looks kind of like this, and nothing is protruding. (So I guess I will probably have to tell the landlord. Sigh.)
...as to holidays, don't forget "4/20"
That is just the shade and of course you have to remve it to see the bulbs and whther or not there is a protruding starter. This is what you are looking for: https://letsfixit.co.uk/diy/power/how-to-change-a-starter-in-a-fluorescent-light-fixture/
The shade is currently off, so it was easy to look. Still nothing protruding. The husband is napping, so I will have him send a message to the landlord later or tomorrow.
In other news, I was able to schedule my vaccine appointment! I get my first shot Monday. I can't wait to get a haircut and visit the dentist! Never thought I'd say that last part.
...+1
Well, it is possible to replace the transformer/ballast or the fixture yourself; but I'm not sure you would want to undertake it : https://www.familyhandyman.com/project/how-to-replace-a-fluorescent-light-ballast/ . I have done it but I don't recomend doing it if you are not familiar with the wiring. If you do be sure the power is off before starting.
I'm not very handy. My husband is even less so. He gets points for bravery, but I wouldn't want him messing with wires. We used to have a very handy person living on the property, but he moved to Hawaii with our landlord. Ah well. It's an old house. Stuff was bound to break eventually.
If it’s the ballast, whoever fixes the unit may not want to actually fix it, but replace the unit as fluorescent units are getting harder to find in DYI stores... (most landlords have their handymen shop at Home Depot or Lowe’s type store as it’s usually easier), so they may replace it with an LED unit... the problem with that is the units usually don’t have bulbs, but built in LED arrays... so when the LEDs eventually die, you have to replace the whole unit... a great idea for a manufacturer who will sell you a whole new $150 unit every 5 years as opposed to a $30 -$40 led panel... plus if you are homeowner who’s not handy you have to pay someone to do that. If the landlord has an account with a commercial lighting vendor, then it’s easier to get a whole new fluorescent unit.
On a side note, to anyone who is handy, they make LED replacement tubes for fluorescent fixtures... they are very badly marketed and not all work with all fixtures... the best are a type that requires rewiring the fixture and removing the ballast altogether. I did that for the units in my shop and they work great and it’s cheaper than replacing everything... unfortunately the store where I bought the bulbs no longer sells that brand (for rewired fixtures) and the stupid things are expensive online... (the Internet is a ripoff)... fortunately I bought a lot extra, so that’s a future me problem.
What's up with the disappearing forum tools bars?... it's there one minute and the next nada...
And the Cloudflares... too...
Fun times... it's like it's 2012 all over again.
2012, wasn't that the year that the Maya calendar expired and the world came to an end with California falling into the sea and the ocean surging over the Himalayas to let big Arks float away?
I take it back. Raised by Wolves has gone completely off the rails. With only 1.5 episodes left, there's little chance of it starting to make sense again.
...yeah I've had a couple "bad gateway" errors today I've taken to saving what I already wrote to MS Word and then refreshing the connection.
i'm up to page 102 in the d/l prodlib project. its like a trip thru time tunnel
i'm up to the early genesis days, skipping a lot of the older outfits and characters.
only keeping the m4/v4 nostalgia stuff, like the delerium outfit. i dont think any of it will look good without a lot of work in the pbr shader setup.
do they weightmap clothes?
gonna brake from d/l and start installing and setting up carrara shaders. i remember how to do poser content.
sometimes i forget i have a store. i never see a cheq from them, i end up spending it as store credit. the dz outfits hubba hubba
SSD drive is so quiet. its lovely
..yeah, looking to get a 2 TB to transfer my Daz content and scene library to. The current drive will the be used for storage.and my DIM install backup.
i'm scared to keep it all on 1 drive.
i want to keep 1 redundant backup.
and 1 for completed scene inventory. gonna split up my animations in render batches between machines.
i'm almost at the point of needing the new pc. no way i'm gonna keep a rendering machine on the internet.
read horror stories of updates for reboots in the middle of long renders.
i don't have patience of sequenced pngs. would rather do it in like 4 second avi files.
last time i rendered 720 frames on a quad core. took a week and a half lol
a bird is tweeting outside. its still dark out. 1 more cuppa tea before nite nite. almost 6am. time is fleeting.
Begin Grammar Nazi mode: Please use the proper tense of the verb "to be".
"I am a midnight snack of jelly beans."
End Grammar Nazi mode:
It's the sound of a baby fart in a vacuum.
That's a common misconception. Time does not fleet. Time is pretty much there forever. It's people that fleet.
Without people, time doesn't exist. Unless there is aliums that keep time too.
Kinda reminded me of how Witchblade went bonkers when they changed directors or something...
I was wondering if I should mention that or not... apparently you found out first... but on the plus side they are supposed to make more episodes, so that all could have been a bad dream or the imagination of a small child inventing a fantasy world for the imaginary inhabitants of their snow globe.
