...if it isn't live, I don't bother.  This is the second year we haven't had a show here In Portland.  Last year it was Covid, this year it is the extreme fire danger, even in the city.

Some people were shooting off fireworks around town last night in spite of the ban.

The scary part is we have a large forested park (aptly named Forest Park) just to the west and northwest of downtown and where I live.  With how dry it's been it wouldn't take much to get a fire going there. and it would have to be fought on the ground as the park is surrounded by businesses and neighbourhoods making it too risky to perform water or retardant drops from aircraft. Last thing we need is a DC-6 or Lockheed L-100 Hercules (civilian version of the military's C-130)  crashing in a populated area as water/retardant bombing is a very dangerous operation and often employs aircraft that are decades sometimes more than a half century old.

Heat and dry conditions are a lot less of a problem when proper forestry practices are not prevented.  Cali did just that, prevent the removal of tinder and old, dead growth, and stopped all controlled burns.  Once enough dead organic matter builds up, it doesn't take a lot to start a bad one; a lightning strike, an errant spark, a downed power line.  Combine a spark with a lot of ready-to-burn fuel and the hot August winds, and you have massive fires that blanket the state so quickly that people can't even drive away from them!

Do you know if Oregon (I think that's where you live, right?) engages in proper forest management?

Non complaint... went to the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art today... it wasn't crowded, the weather was decent, the traffic was decent and I got to take lots of pictures...

Extremely tired though, I must have walked through the museum twice... we went with my wife's cousin, so I got to go off on my own and do whatever I wanted... well, within the confines of the law.

There are sooo many side rooms and different areas that it's really hard to stay on track and not keep looping back into a section you already went through... Years ago I kinda knew the layout, but I've long since forgotten most of it and aside from the major areas like the arms and armor, Egyptian section and Greco-Roman areas I kinda need a map to find stuff... but I guess due to Covid, they aren't giving out maps (because remember, Covid was started by a person who got bit by a Covid infected map)... no big deal I suppose, because they had an online map... which sucked and kept freezing... and they really got stingy with the "you are here" maps spread out throughout the museum.

Still it was tiring but fun.

Here's one of the paintings I took a picture of... I think it's called "Socrates Flipping Off His Persecutors"... by Jacques-Louis David... or someone like that.

Yeah, that's DEFINITELY the title of that painting, I've always thought that!

It's funny how all of his persecutors can't even look at him as they hand him the poison.  What was in that goblet again...pomegranite juice?  Prune juice?  I know, it's kombucha; that stuff tastes like poison!

How many more times am I going to find something wrong with this conversion?!  And why am I finding more stuff on Etsy that I'd like?!

Dear lungs. Please stop wheezing. You're an annoyance that I could do without right now.

Yeahhhh... This isn't going to work....

Well, it looks like nothing is on fire in my town. It's a small miracle after the endless fireworks from about noon yesterday until 2 am this morning.

..yes the state does.  We do controlled burns and such but given how dry it has been even those are not enough and could backfire.

Actually the painting is called "Socrates says 'Look up there'". When the crowd looked up, Socrates (no dummy) ran away instead of drinking the hemlock.

Later on, when asked by the authorities "Is Socrates dead?", they replied, "Well, uh, he's gone."

That's the real story. Or maybe I dreamed it. I think it makes for a better story anyway.

But do they really clean the floors?... you need clean the floors and rake up the broken trees like the Finlandese do or the squirrels will touch one and they'll just go up... the Finlandians have spent lots of time cleaning the floors and raking and doing things and they've never been attacked by Godzilla.

    Or so I hear.

Or maybe that was just something I remember hearing in a really bad dream...

But either way, people should get out there and start mopping the forests, just in case.

When I have mentioned, how we spend our time off in the woods with the rake, it has been deemed "political"... I wonder, if they knew about picking up the poop after the squirrels, moose, reindeer and other irresponsible inhabitants of our clean forests...

Exactly!... Bear and moose poop is extremely flammable... Explosive almost... Thats why I used to host a program where we taught Boy Scouts how to potty train bears...

Sure, a few of them got eaten, and most of them got mauled, but the one or two that would survive, had terrific results with the bears and in fact, formed long lasting friendships with their students (the bears), who would often send them Christmas cards and visit for the holidays...

Granted, eventually they did eat these Boy Scouts too, especially during Christmas, which is very stressful for bears, but that's a very short term thing to be concerned about in the grand scheme of forest management.

Yeah... We have the forests and their inhabitants covered, no problem there... The remaining huge problem of the past two decades has been the little old grandma living out in her small cottage and using an outhouse, which contents the devil-may-care delinquent then dumps on the compost, contaminating the Baltic Sea...

this is why I keep saying people need to buy more cows... if you are stuck at home or there is a disaster like a blackout or zombie apocalypse, you can get milk and ice cream directly from the cow (although ice cream is only available on deluxe models)... you can also get steaks and hamburger if don't take too much at once and if the cow drops dead because you mined too much hamburger from it, you can make a belt or some leather pajamas out of it.... that and the gentle mooing is a great form of white noise when you have trouble sleeping.

I'm playing a farming game. There's a bear in the forest, and I haven't seen him take a dump there yet. Then again, the game is 7+, and I haven't seen any of the other animals poop there either. :s

    MY PILLOW CASE/PARCEL FINALLY ARRIVED!!!

Now I've got other sellers to contact.

I wish Blood Omen 2 was on the PS4. I'd love to re-visit the Legacy of Kain series.

    I'm feeling so overloaded.

Ah yes... I was just out in that... That was a real Florida/Jurassic Park type rainstorm... couldn't see out the windshield... mostly had to guess where I was going... But it was over pretty quick.
Me and my daughter got pretty soaked crossing the parking lot to the car... there is something refreshing about a good soaking summer torrential rain.

I love Florida rain... that's serious rain, none of that namby-pamby, "sorta going to get you wet" rain... Florida rain means business and it gets that business done.
