Not really anything bad other than to make a cake. Temptation is more than just a piece of cake. I like cake but my medical doctor wants me to go on a diet.

complaint.  i'm out of milk.  cousin away on vacation.  no one to bring groceries for a couple weeks.  is gonna get leaner around here.

this is why I keep saying people need to buy more cows... if you are stuck at home or there is a disaster like a blackout or zombie apocalypse, you can get milk and ice cream directly from the cow (although ice cream is only available on deluxe models)... you can also get steaks and hamburger if don't take too much at once and if the cow drops dead because you mined too much hamburger from it, you can make a belt or some leather pajamas out of it.... that and the gentle mooing is a great form of white noise when you have trouble sleeping.

    Bessie!  Moo

been only 5 hours since my last cuppa cheerios.  feels like days.

    Heat Advisory

IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures.

A GUST FRONT APPROACHING THE WATERS... The areas affected include... Long Island Sound... Peconic and Gardiners Bays... At 525 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a gust front, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. This gust front was located 9 nm northwest of New Haven Harbor, moving southeast at 20 knots. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes.

Ah yes... I was just out in that... That was a real Florida/Jurassic Park type rainstorm... couldn't see out the windshield... mostly had to guess where I was going... But it was over pretty quick.
Me and my daughter got pretty soaked crossing the parking lot to the car... there is something refreshing about a good soaking summer torrential rain.

I love Florida rain... that's serious rain, none of that namby-pamby, "sorta going to get you wet" rain... Florida rain means business and it gets that business done.

Having lived in Florida for a few decades, I've come to the conclusion that I only like Florida rain when not driving a car and when trees are not falling on my house.indecision

Nothing more heart thumping than driving Interstate 75 around Tampa in clear skies, then within seconds, between exits, you find yourself blind, in a SuperSoaker carwash, at 75 miles an hour, unable to see the tail lights of the car that you know is only a few car lengths ahead of you.  Knowing that in the next second you could suddenly find yourself between those taillights.surprise  Dare you slow down?  Not without considering the blind car moving at 75 miles an hour, a few car lengths behind you, and the equally busy lanes on either side of you.frown  You keep waiting for the crash.  Then, after 5 minutes of stark terror hoping you're still within the road lanes, you find yourself out in the sun again within a few seconds.  You then thank your lucky stars that no idiot in front of you slammed on his brakes.yes

No sir!  Florida rains should be illegal or at least register their appearances with the local authorities.  Or cars should have much better bumpers.enlightened

Other than those two situations, Florida rains often cool things off a bit and flush most of the schools of sardines out of the air.

Looks like a lot of you guys have spent time in Florida. smiley

Non-complaint: The new comforter I got seems nice. I was worried it was going to be too small/thin, but it fluffed up to twice its original size after coming out of the vacuum package. It was cheap too! Sometimes Amazon amazes me.

Complaint: It was a very unproductive day, unless you count Steam achievements, and I do not. Also, I think there is something wrong with my dryer. I don't think it's supposed to take 3 hours to dry a medium-sized load of regular clothes...

I did a major aquarium cleaning yesterday. It was a lot of work but my tank looks so much better now. And best of all my friends seem happier.

Depends on where they work, the difficulty of the commute and whether they take the train/bus or drive in.

    Observation:

Why is it always that the person who says "Well, I've been doing this for ("X" number) of years, so I know (fill in the blank)..." as a justification to blindly believe they are a god of whatever they do, is alway the person who does the worst job or sucks at what they do the most?

To me that statement has come to be an instant disqualification for any position or for being taken seriously in any way.

Yeah, sometimes (like 7.5% of the time) they are more or less knowledgeable, but the rest of the time, just NO... big NO.

And sadly, they probably have been doing whatever that entire time and still suck at it or are approaching it with seriously flawed knowledge or poor skills.

Check your vent, it may be blocked with lint.  Check outside where it goes into the outside air, it may be all blocked up there.  Check the lint catcher screen in the dryer, which may also be blocked up.  These can be fire hazzards, don't let it go!  I have a tool for cleaning the vent.  It's a brush with extensions that you hook into an electric drill and it pushes through the entire vent and cleans out all the built up lint.  I think I bought it at Lowe's a couple years ago.  I'm sure they still have them available.  Usiing dryer sheets can cause the lint screen to clog...they get a coating that doesn't let the air pass easily if it builds up enough.  Also make sure the vent doesn't have a sharp corner, the path out should be as smooth as possible, no square turns if possible.  But the lint build up is the most likely problem.

1- More when I was a kid, but occasionally... not so sure if I'm inclined to go there anymore now.

2- It's probably stuffed with highly flammable llama butt hair... maybe not, but if it's Amazon, I'd just assume there is some dark secret hiding inside.

3- What DanaTA said... That's one of the most common reasons for crappy drying results... the brush is definitely a good idea too... if you live in an area prone to humidity, the exhaust vent tube can get damp and since most dryer filters are not super efficient, a good portion of lint bypasses the filter and if the vent tube is moist, lint will stick... over time it builds up and can hamper the dryer's effectiveness... also the outside vent opening can get blocked up by errant lint too... built up lint is a serious fire hazard and also depending on the vent design, it might not allow the vent damper cover to close, inviting vermin or wasps to investigate the vent should it be inactive for any length of time (like if you are away for a couple of days... my friend went away for two weeks to find their dryer vent partly blocked by a small wasp nest).

During the worst of the heat wave last week, I didn't even use the stovetop, but instead got deli sandwiches from the market and for brekkie it was either cold cereal or a toasted bagel.

Given the heat you had last week, couldn't you just put your meal out in the sun and let the ambient heat cook it?... Maybe get a camping stove and go sneak into the rail yard across from you and cook out there?... (not being serious)...

Also given the heat you experienced how long was that cereal really "cold" and was the bagel toasted in the toaster or just by sitting around?

..I only spent a little over a week there and that was enough  for me.  Was in Jacksonville back in the 90s for the annual American Kitefliers National Convention and festival and it was hot, muggy, with almost no wind.  Then the rains (along with lightning) came for several days.  I remember being ankle deep in water on the flying fields.  Didn't really want to recreate Ben Franklin's experiment either, particularly since he used a single line to the kite whereas I was flying a dual line sport kite (something in the back of my mind from my days in electronics about "completing circuits").

...and wouldn't you know it, the day afterwards was nice dry sunny with a beautiful winds off the river.  The event was billed as "River Breezes" but we all renamed it "River Rains".

I remember my co-workers in Portland were so jealous of me heading to Florida at what usually is the start of our rainy season up here (early October). When I got back home I learned all that while I was getting drenched and heading for cover almost each day there, it was in the 70s and low 80s with no rain all week.  They should have held the national convention here that year.

That was my taste of Florida. and now that the state is being threatened by the seas rising, no desire to go back there.

My only regret was not being able to see a shuttle or rocket launch.

...yeah I probably could have put that bagel on the windowsill and it would have toasted.  Fortunately the cereal I had was the big biscuits of Shredded Wheat™ which soak up milk like a sponge so it didn't have time to get warm..  Yeah it was pretty miserable and the shipping delay for the I ordered window fans didn't help.  Really not looking forward to later this month and August.

Actually when it gets into the 90s or higher, I really don't feel like eating much anyway.  Skipped lunch from Friday through Monday.  Been mostly in the low to mid 80s since and it actually feels comfortable in comparison.

Welp, I spoke too soon. I started a new season of Below Deck and sure enough, everything was suddenly cringe and super obviously staged. I hate it when shows get like this! I tried watching Too Hot to Handle season 2, but after three minutes my eyes were starting to hurt from all the rolling.

But thanks for the tips about dryer vents. I will look into it.

I watched Mobile Suit Gundam tonight, and it was really quite bad. I've never seen an animated movie that was so poorly directed. The action design was also inexcusably bad for an animation, as if nobody ever asked "does it make sense for this shot to come after this one?". The art and animation were also just fairly poor, with some truly bewildering design choices.

And yet, it was still the better of the two Gundam movies I've watched. We couldn't even finish the other one.

    That's really bumming me out...

The other day I came across a book by Shamms Mortier, The Bryce 3D Handbook... I keep it around to remind what badly written books look like and also not write while stoned... I think Chohole was the only other person I know of who read that book and was aware of how awful it was, and I got wondering if Chohole was alright because I realized I hadn't seen any posts by her recently... but people have lives, so I figured either I just hadn't noticed her posts or she was busy...  She'll be missed.
