I dabble with all of those kyoto kid .. and you are right!
I can't really consider as a "freebie", as it still required one to get that season pass. So it's maybe "quite cheap" but it got paid for.
And I might (!) would be interested in getting it in the next "PC+ for a day" sale, if the price would be as low as $ 2.99 or better $ 1.99, but there's too many better (for my needs) suited houses on the market for less money, like the PC+ 70s Modern House
Full Price Value: $1,198,589.00
Current Value: $147,891.81
Total Spent: $17,132.89
WOW... over a million worth today!!! I'm rich! lol
It actually is free as base characters are 18 bucks and the HD morphs are like 15 or 17 when they're released. So that's roughly 33 bucks, five characters and HD morphs get you to the 149 price so this set is free and whatever the second item is as well. Now the gold and silver packages, then this wouldn't be free probably.
...it's not so much the gear as itis the software. Blender is one of the best modelling programmes out there, on par with expensive pro grade software. While years ago I shunned it because of it's clunky keyboard driven UI and focus on memorising a large number of hotkeys, 2.8 changed all that by offering a pointer and icon based environment that I find much more intuitive. I wouldn't think of going to a modeller I haven't heard of, which likely may not be as capable and versatile (particularly if it needs to be purchased [and not into purchasing a Steam membership either as I have little to no interest in gaming which is their primary focus]).
The real trick is having the VR the glove interface. VR gloves are already available, have been for a while, but most, systems use some form of handheld device that I feel is not much better than a conventional mouse or the trackball I use My preference for gloves is to get more of a sense of physical and precise control..
Getting something with no value for free or for payment is the same as not getting anything. That's how I would have felt in this case if I'd bought the pass. Conversely, you can assign a value to this thing, and then claim that one of the characters or HD add-ons is "free".
In the end, you'll have a bunch of stuff in your library that you paid USD 149 to get. You're getting it all regardless, so any decisions about assigning value are going to be arbitrary.
Considering I no longer really am buying bundles, this will probably work out for me in the long run. Just hope they add more to it in the future.
DAZ assets are better deal than buying NFT's
Agreed... I still don't understand NFT's anyway so I'll stick with buying Daz content ;)
Oh, the "free" as with a glass of marmelade with the sticker "Now 30% more marmelade in this glass for FREE" which leads to the cashier giving you that weird look when You ask how you're to get the free marmelade out of the glass, as You don't need the non-free marmelade in that glass, thank you so much...
Free = not paid for. Stuff that comes with other stuff that You have to pay for might be "additional", but in the end you pay for it. If you don't pay for it, or at least the stuff it's added to, you wouldn't get it.
The "get 1 free when buy 2" is just marketing speech for "get x% price reduction" and is used because our minds are programmed to be make us eager to get stuff for nothing. Which usually isn't the fact, as long as selling stuff is concerned.
For course You can stick to your definition of "free" if makes you feel better
Full Price Value: $1,172,901.00
Current Value: $153,321.57
Total Spent: $8,933.62
Though I have to wonder how the system is counting things. If you buy a bundle is the full price counted the $134.95 – or the full price of each item in the bundle (or does it count it both ways?) Then there are things like the April first gags, in 2020 that banana suit listed for $999.95 and the invisible chair for $400! And the always free ‘Genesis Starter Essentials’ is a $159.95 value, and the ‘Daz Studio 4.X Pro’ is another $249.95 savings.
The total spent was a bit of an ouch, but you hardly notice it when it’s a few hundred at a time (The dangers of gift cards! – though saving another % on everything you buy with them are nice …)
And a good chunk of that full/current value is over ten years of grabbing anything ‘free’ (just in case I found a use for it), and looking/waiting for the bargains to pop up.
I know I’m not the only one here with some of those old .exe files that wouldn’t open/run if they didn’t find DAZ 2/3 in the proper folders. ;-)
Rough waters right now with some of the games they’re testing/playing, but I’ll stick around to see what comes out the other side. (Besides, my PC+ is good for another year and I’ve still got store credits to burn! ;-) )
Whoever is concocting these new schemes must be really trying to get the customer base put off - never thought I would need to start taking a closer look at Renderosity and Poser.
Why not just reward the people who buy stuff with better discounts, the more you buy, the better the discount?
Tired of having to hunt through all the crazy mad this and mad that and mega mad discounting silliness - having to buy stuff I'm NOT interested in just so I can get a better deal on the stuff I am interested in. I'd own all of Stonemasons stuff, instead of just 48 products if that were the case. And actually end up with things I can use.

Last September there was a million dollar freebie available for a very short time.
Ha! I'd forgotten all about the Spuggles Special Edition ( TEST CONTENT) SKU 23065 for $999999.99
That deflates my values just a tad! ;-)
Checking, oops, also forgot another big one ...
68617 $999.95 Banana Suit for Genesis 8
[59849 $999.95 dFlatable Donkey]
81058 $400.00 The Invisible Chair
Full Price Value: $170,501.00
Current Value: $153,321.57
Sounds a lot more realistic (though there might be a couple more things to zero out ...;-) )
...Renderosity sort of has something like that called "Render Rewards". Hivewire used to as well, you basically received a certain number of points based on the value of the item you purchased which could be saved up and used for additional discounts.
Being a member of the Daz "Millionaires' Club", I would so love that.
Spuggles Special Edition ( TEST CONTENT) was listed at $999999.99 to keep anyone from buying it and was free (probably by accident) for a short time. It has since been removed from the store.
I was sorely tempted to jump on this Season Pass thing, as I have picked up nearly ALL of the Pro Bundles since I joined in 2009, but of late there have been some noticeable, big changes in the kinds of models and characters offered. I guess I have until sometime tonight to think it over, but I GUARANTEE you if I pass tonight, or take too much time to think about it, I most certainly will NOT be joining later at a higher price. Those 'late tiers' seem like an incredible DISincentive to me. Meh, whatever. I buy what I like (almost anything, and everything) but ignore the rest. The models on offer of late (past three or four months) make me question if I want to blindly hold my wallet out in front of me while stumbling into the dark.
Meh, this kind of thing is not for everyone, and I seem to be one of those whom it is not for. I work too hard for my money and am not interested in 'gambling'. Last year around this time I would have bought it on day one without a moment's hesitation. This year, I am making a stinkeye face like someone is trying to trick me and I just haven't figured out how quite yet.
I'm kind of excited to see if I regret my decision, or feel vindicated though, so there's that.
I like the concept of the season pass but wow, this price point seems extremely high. $50-$60 I might have jumped in to take part just for fun and not be worried about getting things I don't really need, but throwing away $150 for unknowns is not something I can do...
Okay the first freebie has been revealed and... yeah, it looks okay but it's not something that would entice me into the Season Pass.
I second that ;)
There are so many reasons that I would never buy into this, especially now and I don't mean a lack of funds due to Covid either.
1. The past few months, the themes in the store and the look of the first 8.1 characters don't much interest me. I'm not interested in stylized characters. I got Vicky and Mike 8.1 just for blending purposes, but since then, none of the new figures have wowed me much if at all. Mike 8.1 was ESPECIALLY disappointing. If his skin had any LESS detail you could have called him The Guy 8.1 and had everyone convinced. For me to shell out $150 bucks I'd have to have gobs more faith in you Daz than I do right now. Buy 5 characters sight-unseen and no refund if I don't like them? Forget it.
2. The store was FINALLY starting to show a little male love a few months back, but has now gotten as bad if not worse than it ever was with it's ridiculous female-centric direction. For the LAST TIME Daz...I'm drowning in female characters. I have so many I can't even install them all or it would take 45 minutes for Daz Studio to load Genesis 8 female. And most of THOSE were from bundles, not because I bought them outright. They're being thrown at me even when I'm not directly buying them, even in MALE bundles now. Stop it.
3. Clothing. I can't even get started on clothing. Some of my best-looking clothing were for Genesis 6. Need I say more? Sure, there are exceptions, but few (you know who you are Protozoon, mal3imagery, Luthbel, Mada et al) ;)
4. Quality control. It's been mentioned SOOO much lately, but it bears repeating. Not only has QC gone thru the floor, but ya'll seem like you don't even care to fix it. There was a time when EVERYTHING you got from this store installed and worked as it should and you never had to worry that it wouldn't. It used to, but as my granny used to be so fond of saying "Used to's DEAD." It's seems you've adopted the motto "It's good enough".
5. Last, but not least, yeah....the whole NFT thing. Smelly, rotten, and in the wrong place. WE want to buy content to make art, not buy **cough** "art" **cough** for pie-in-the-sky dreams of getting rich quick. I'll hang around, look at the new stuff, browse the forums, but I will never buy another thing here until that trash disappears.
'Nuff said.
The price of the season pass is high. I hope the base models are good because I didn't really like the first free item. He wouldn't even make my wishlist.
That's a shame. I picked up Spuggles when he was free and love him. They should have made him perma free if they didn't want to sell him because he is a cute creature.
I'd kinda hoped Brooke would be a male, but the math of buying 8.1 base characters is a null for me. Good for DAZ Productions to actually make a male character first, that at least.
I must say I was surprised by this offering as it doesn't ring the bells. Something like this is expensive enough to be divisive, which seems a shame.
I’m wondering if someone in marketing is new and doesn’t know/realize what kind of sales/bargains DAZ has thrown out in the past – what those of us that have shopped here over the years have come to expect. They’re trying to convince a rather jaded audience that ‘this’ is a sale/bargain when last February(2020) $53 and tax (Leroy 8 Pro and three outfit textures) netted me an extra two free Pro 8 bundles and some ‘toys’. (Full value of the order was $643.20 – sadly the order info doesn’t tell you what all was on sale for what price.)
Give it time, they’ll figure it out and then give us a real sale/bargain on something we can’t do without. ;-)
