This was an underwhelming start to the season, and I had serious doubts going into it.
I guess I can point at myself and laugh at being dumb.
Everyone... Please don't put yourselves down... I applaud you all for being braver than I. If hubby had said yes... I too would have given the pass a gamble. I'm not a gambler but I would have been curious. And I would have 'made do' with whatever came my way. No complaints :) I want to thank all of you for your opinions and sample renders! You ALL get an A+ in my book. :) Please keep the artwork coming... and someone.. If you can... Please render Brook in the Sunrise Hangout without her HD for me..... please :)
Na, you just placed your bets. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose - but there's no chance of winning if you don't play!
(Now if that was the rent money you blew - yeah, you need to think about things a bit ... ;-) )
and not everyone feels they've lost the gamble.
Certainly.
But i'm still surprised that so many are feeling disapointed after only the first character. DAZ still wants to sell Golded/Silver versions so i thought they would "WOW" everyone so people would feel envy of those who got it. Those that wanted better discount on the bundle may recover if there is a second one with good savings for them, but all disapointed with the actual figure and/or bundle iteself, bad luck.
I’m guessing there won’t be a next figure until the gold timer runs out, which is going to make that gold a very hard sell for those that weren’t thinking ‘Must have!’ on seeing Brooke. Now if the next figure is a ‘WOW’, then the PC+ silver’s only $10 more than the gold was, so they might see some people getting it.
Nothing would make me happier right now than if that were to happen.
I mean, yay for the folks that dig her, I'm happy for them and yourself if she floats your boat, but in the four years I've been buying stuff from Daz, she is the very first core character that I wouldn't even wishlist for later that's been released. I'm very much regretting taking a chance on this and I won't do it again.
Would be nice, but that's assuming they have such a creature they've been holding for such a need.
If they had something like that, which seems highly unlikely, given that the very nature of the Season Pass concept is based on the idea of selling a larger amount of unknown sell quantity over a proven amount of proven quality.
That said, I note that DAZ did just jack up the extra SP discount on the second Brooke bundle from 35% to 50% off... which only has six items versus the first one's seven.
According to Cris Palomino on the sales thread, that 50% ad copy was an error: It's only 30%. Which, admittedly, is better than the 20 or 15% I thought Daz might be lowball enough to offer.
My gamble/wager was that the bundles would be of their recent (low, for me) desirability level, making only buying the character, HD, and select item(s) from the bundle(s) a minor savings. So far, so good, since I bought the pass when it was released.
Brooke 8.1 has a well-done HD (thank you, Daz; no-HD HD Add-Ons are not cool) but when combined with the hyped default bump and normal settings, it ruins her appearance for close-ups. Also, unconventionally attractive 3D characters (like their real counterparts and unlike red hot mamas) need particular hairstyles, styling, and camera angles to be seen in a flattering light. The extra care pays off.
They basically turned this Brooke set into two starter bundles for more than the old starter bundles cost, and with no discounts on the bundles for buying the add-ons.
The two August 8.1 bundles were both old starter size for $74.95. (Ended up paying around $40 for both.)
The Victoria 8.1 University Bundle was $149.95 with the figure and 11 items. (under $50)
The Victoria 8.1 Loving Life Bundle was 139.95 with the figure and 8 items. (under $40)
Both of which I got discounts on the bundles by buying add-ons.
The Swimsuit Fashion Bundle by The Diigitals and LavieByCk for $135.95 actually had two figures – and good discounts for already having some of the 13 pieces. (under $40)
The Michael 8.1 cost more and didn’t offer what I was interested in, so I can’t say what savings they may have offered.
I’m not quite sure what their game plan is with Brooke and the next four, but as played so far I’ll have to pass on them for now.
I must say that Brooke is... underwhelming. I make plenty of my own normal-looking people, there are many, MANY morphs available to make characters larger and less 'perfect'. I am happy for those that like her! The bundle she has though has made me confused. Why are Daz shoving random opposite gender models into their bundles now? Zak is nice, and if I weren't exclusively buying from other sites until the NFT crap goes away, I would get him, but the rest of the bundle is really 'meh'.
I'm betting they aren't selling many (if any) gold bundles.
Thirty dollars per HD character barely made sense. How much sense does $36 make when you don't want Brooke?
Exactly, I am not even going to contemplate these season passes as they are way to expensive, when we have to factor in currency exchanges..
Either way with NFT's and now this, paying $169 USD, $218 AUD for a PC+ Gold Season pass is even too much for me..
I know people complain a lot that DAZ doesn't really listen to this forum, but sometimes I'm happy that they are able to remove themselves from our little micro-conversations and consider the larger user base. I'm not saying that the larger user base doesn't agree with the forums with regards to Brook or the season pass, but in all honestly I simply don't know.
The only thing I do know is that I like Brooke, I'm happy with the season pass, and I'm glad DAZ offered it. It fit my buying habits, I take no issue with the price, and I know that I'm in the minority here on the forum. The only thing I DON'T like is the forum badge, because it's created an "us vs them" mentality, where now I feel singled out because I'm one of the few who is happy to buy in to it. I used to feel "safer" on the forum, but now I'm constantly wondering if that stupid badge is coloring what I'm saying as it hits certain ears.
I very honestly personally understand why some wouldn't like Brooke or the pass. Everybody is entitled to their personal opinions, but I find that very often I'm just happy DAZ doesn't make all of their decisions based on any vocal minority, forum or otherwise.
@duckbomb They CAN remove the badge for you. It took them a week after I put in a ticket to NOT remove mine, but an hour after I complained on the forums about it taking a week and voiced my doubts that badge removal was a real thing, my badge disappeared.
If history is anything to go by, if Daz wants our opinion, they'll give it to us.
Oh, that's awesome! I'll actually do that, thank you! I realize it might be in my head, but I also realize that it might not be. I'll be happy to not be "subscribed" to one side or the other, at least in public :)
Hear, hear. If Daz listened to forum users, we might have never had NFTs! Where would that leave us? We could have missed the gravy train!
I wouldn't worry about the forum badge. Lots of people bought the pass in good faith for whatever reason and good luck to you all.
I think you're being sarcastic, but I hope it goes without saying that I'm not suggesting every decision DAZ makes is amazing, and that I agree with everything they do while at the same time disagreeing with everything the forums have to say. These forums have a swing to them, where the vast majority agree or disagree with (often at least with new bundles) the same thing, and sometimes I find myself on the other side of the line. I only mean to say that I'm happy for the variety and options.
EDITED TO ADD: I was just thinking about it, and I HAVE to believe that DAZ just had to know the NFT thing was a bad idea, forum or not. Before they even launched, they HAD to know it wasn't a good move. At least I'd like to think so. The possibility of them just being blinded by dollar signs or "the next big thing" is easier for me to choke down then the possibility that they actually believed this was a good idea. OK, that's all, and it's off topic.

Well, now that the ad has been updated, perhaps they will have time to fix the contest information. There's bulleting errors, capitalization errors, repeated information, etc. What a careless mess! Does anybody even read this stuff after typing it? This is not professionally written copy and reflects poorly on the company. And don't get me started on all the incorrectly worded sales!
...they finally did fix the store search routine.
never mind... zips lips
So it looks like Daz is sweetening the deal for the Season Pass holders with additional discounts. Today it was an additional USD 5.00 off vehicles. Of course the discount didn't work correctly for some of the day, deducting 3 instead of 5 bucks, but the thought was there!
