  • Contest entries must have the "seasonpass" tag, so that's what I look at for the Contest.

    Where is the contest?

So, before, the main SP page said April 20, 11:59PM MDT (Daz/Utahn time. MDT = GMT-6)...

Now, it says April 20, 12:00AM MDT (Daz time).

(And, of course, 12:00AM MDT is in the past... so, it is over?)

Of course, the Contest Entry Rules page still says the old thing: "Contest Period: Entries will be accepted online starting on April 12, 2021, and ending April 20, 2021 at 11:59:59 MT. All online entries must be received by April 20, 2021 011:59:59 p.m. MT."

Roughly 15 hours from now to get in your entries? (Or, 8 hours ago/too late, if you look at the other page.)

Genesis Core Figures / base characters (and most of their HD Add-Ons) imo offer the most consistently reliable source of high-quality male and female skins and morphs. Yes, there are several exceptions. It's no secret that bundle quality has plummeted while their prices have almost doubled (and that with little to no enticing promotions or deals). Consequently, the Season Pass seemed like a great way to get HD characters that I was going to buy anyway for $30 each instead of the $41.61 ($22.03 + $19.58) I might have to spend due to Daz's current trend of not discounting the HD.

If this trend holds, I will have saved $58.05 by purchasing the Season Pass. This only partially diminishes for me if one of the five base characters is toonish or a Thorne doll. It didn't matter to me and others like me that we couldn't see the characters; so far, the base characters are still trustworthy, although Brooke requires more forethought than any I've worked with.

Sometimes people with different opinions than ours have legitimate reasons for those opinions. And at least for now, we all are allowed to hold and act upon our differing opinions. There are usually factors at play that are known only to those with their hands in the dirt.

Oh, and if Daz could be bothered to update the link that contains their flagship product, then I could've just pointed people there.

I don't know what the Season Pass is supposed to be. The lack of information sharing, we have come to expect from Daz... but to sell a SP in the future, there ought to be a fundamental change in the way Daz shares information.

    Give us more information up-front.
Let us make informed choices about the SP as customers, especially as long-standing customers.
None of us like the lack of information-sharing, but the lack of info around the SP is especially bad.

Brooke is an example of what was wrong about the Business-As-Usual Daz method/lack of information, IMO.
BAU Daz information scarcity forced a lot of hard choices about the Season Pass onto people.

Simply moving a unit of SP isn't necessarily a "win", IMO.

Maybe you sold a bunch of units, but if we had known who the SP characters would be, do you think we would have invested in the SP?

And if not (i.e. if more information would have sold fewer SPs), then why push the SP on us? (That tells Daz-ites something about yourselves and your relationship with customers, IMO.)

Instead, if more information about the base characters would have sold the SP to more people, then that means you delivered value to the customers above what we wanted.

Without knowing what is ahead in the SP characters, I can't know what the answer to that question would be.

Looking at Brooke alone? I would suggest that more information about the SP characters would have sold fewer SPs (and I don't dislike Brooke).

Sorry to be blunt but if you gambled and lost that is on you. Daz didn't push it on you, if there wasn't enough info to make an informed decision don't throw money at it. This Season Pass rolled out exactly how most of us assumed it would. Shaky freebie, less popular character, and lackluster discount for the bundle.

Since Season Passes are non-refundable, the interesting sales metric would be how many people sign up for a 2nd Season Pass.  (Totally fake number alert) if you hope for 50 non-refundable sales and get 100 - then yay!  It's a success.  But if the next round is only 20 - that's probably an indicator that people weren't happy the first time around.  I think the next figure or two will really make or break this idea.  The rules of the contest were definitely changed after the fact - not to clarify existing rules, but change who could win.  I suspect it was to encourage more people to buy Season Passes by making it far more likely they'd win a prize.

Let's remember, Jack isn't responsible for DAZ's decisions.  Like the Mods, he's on the front line trying to get people to check their pitchforks and torches at the door despite the cloak room being rather full and getting roasty toasty.  smiley

+1 My point exactly. It's not how may SPs sold. It's how many of the NEXT SP sell that will determine whether customers are happy. And if I were a betting chick (which I'm not hence no forum flair) I'd say they are going to sell very few SPs in the future. Unless of course the next four characters are just outstanding. And it could be Jack Tomalin is right and I'm wrong. In a few months I might have to come back here and eat crow.

In case anyone cares, here is why I bought the season pass and why I am not disappointed (yet):

I am one of those people who bought almost every "Pro" bundle.  And I kind of regret that in hindsight.

    Why?

Hundreds of expressions - so many are repeats.  Once I delved in and realized I had been buying the same expression over and over, I was... disappointed.  No value added.

The hair included in the Pro bundles is almost never hair I use in renders.  They usually look "last gen" - especially when compared to stuff you can get from artists like OOT.  No value added.

The additional characters I had mixed feelings about.  Usually not bad shapes - but often flat, painted skin textures that I never use.  There are exceptions, but this is like 50/50.

And outfits were a 50/50 in terms of satisfaction.  Some were nice, but some look like the figures are wearing cardboard.  I probably only use half.

The only reason I won't say that buying those bundles was purely a poor choice was because of the add ons - back when you could get Gen3 characters for free and such.  I always felt I was getting a bargain.  But even if they still offered that, I have almost every Gen3 bundle now, so eventually there is no incentive.

Since they changed the bundles to the themed format, I think I've bought 2?  I'm not really interested.

So, what does this have to do with the Season Pass?

I like the core characters.  I still buy most of them.  I knew there was a really good chance I was going to buy the upcoming ones anyway.  The one thing I always felt the "Pro" bundles should have included was the HD morphs.

Here is a sale that includes the next 5 characters and their HD morphs.  I already knew that was what I was looking for in a bundle.  A couple of "freebies" thrown in and I was willing to take the chance.  I don't care about contests or forum flair.  You can see by the number of post that I have made that I don't contribute a lot to the forums - but I've been buying Daz products since 2002 - I would probably qualify as one of those people Jack refered to earlier who purchases and doesn't post in forums.

I'm not disappointed in my purchase (yet).  I like having varied characters to dial in so I can create more unique characters.  I never use anyone "out of the box" at 100%.  Brooke is a great character to dial a little in.  She is a value added to my library.

Also, I just started a work contract and don't have time to check the store every day for sales, so the convenience of having the characters just added to my download list as they come available was attractive.  (I miss out on a lot of sales because of work.)

Anyway, those are my thoughts.  I'm sorry to those who feel betrayed or angered by all this.  Maybe it could have been handles better on their end, and hopefully moving forward it will be.

Where did you get $30? Brooke is $22. ETA, I see you added the HD morph, However, every DO HD morph I own, (which is most by now) were either free or on sale at under $5.00 and I don’t even use them. I do use Mousso’s HD morphs quite often and they work with most morphs and skins and the DazO Mousso characters are often on deep sale for under $5.00 and IMO, soooo much, better than Daz0’s. Actually if Mousso had a Season Pass, I’d possibly consider that lol. Or not, I’m not really a gambler...

I strongly disagree that Daz core characters have the best morphs and skins. I think MANY PA’s products are WAY better and I rarely, if ever, use Daz characters at all and only buy them if I like the bundle they are in or the deal, or freebies that come with it. Remember Stephanie 8? Ugh. Has anyone actually ever used her? The makeup is usually awful on Daz0’s and I don’t even like the sculpting on most. Actually there are only about three or four Daz G8 core characters that I actually liked and I think I own them all (purchased in bundles) except some of the last few where the bundle deals were bad.. But I only have one G8,1,which I purchased because I liked the bundle, NOT the character. (Another trend I don’t like are the release of only G8.1s from now on.)

If the Brooke bundle deal had been good, I might have purchased it, not for Brooke, but for everything else. When the bundle eventually goes on deep sale or maybe free if they ever get back to those offers, I will probably get it, but definitely not for Brooke (although I’ve discovered she can make a cute toon.)

The truth is, the thing that bothers me most about all this, is that I’m losing orange banners. I used to get all of them and as things have progressed, I’m getting less and less so purchasing less and less, which, when I think of it, may actually be a GOOD thing. I need to start taking time to test and if necessary, return products I DO have.

The image itself is still in my gallery but everything was untagged:

    Daz 3D | Daz 3D

I tried to just take a screenshot with my mouse over the gallery images to show that it says April 19th that it was uploaded, but I have to move the mouse to click the snapshot button. But I just went to try and retag it and put it in the category and the category is not an option anymore. If you're able to inquire about it, Richard, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I got the $30 by dividing the $150 for the season pass by 5 characters/HD. The $41.61 (22.03 character + 19.58 HD Add-On) is what I expected I would pay under the new Genesis 8.1 scheme that has seen less discounts. Actually, I think I got one of the 8.1 HD Add-Ons for $12, but I suspected Daz might stop giving them away and keep the prices high as a rationale for the season pass. So far, so good. There haven't been any loyalty orange banners for new bundles, only for owning retread product(s) that's been stuck in, so you're not missing out.

I love Mousso (74 out of 112) and Raiya (whole store and have rendered each one), but their skins have rarely risen to the level of detail in the BEST base characters, imo. I like skin detail, since I have to do closeups, and the spec maps on characters like Dain, Nix, Babina, Zelara, Kala, Millawa, Floyd, Kwan, Dasan, Alawa---just off the top of my head---leave most others looking too smooth for my tastes. bluejaunte, of course, has to be considered separately in fairness to everyone else, imo. My preferences are based on my own illustrative rendering needs. If I did beauty or style shots mostly, then I could pass on most of the base characters too, for there are plenty of prettier girls than that lot.

So, be sure when adding gallery images to use the category "seasonpass" and not try and tag it with seasonpass or something like that.

Let me know if that still isn't working for you and I'll see if there is anything I can see on our end.

Considering the number of characters I already own and the number of new characters I've been passing on, the option to spend a HUGE amount of money on the unknown is an instant NO_SALE for me.  I already stop and think about the bundles - SERIOUSLY, some of the price of these things would buy groceries for a week, one character is more expensive than a tank of gas.  This has gotten way past the point where it's reasonably priced for a hobby.  I've started USING my content and stopped looking at the sales.

Hey, you know what they say: The House always wins.

    But people play anyway.

The season pass does not seem to be aimed at people on a budget, but rather the big-time spenders and collectors who can afford to get every character regardless of price or whether they will need it. Apparently, Daz has quite a few customers that fit into this category.

There is something addictive about getting a good deal, and there are days when I feel like I need a "fix," and just want to buy something and feel like I got a really good discount. (Admittedly, not lately, but at this point, there's nothing I want or need.) So I can see how people would be tempted to go for this if collecting characters was their thing. I just hope they actually get a good deal. I hate to see people get taken advantage of.

I don't have a problem with the idea of a season pass. This structure doesn't work for me and I wouldn't buy into it. Nothing I've seen so far makes me wish I did. Quite the opposite. But it's obviously appealing to some people. That's great! I do think there are customers who don't visit the forums; and I'm sure some of them spend a lot, too. It turns out, there are also people who visit the forums and spend a lot. At least one that I know of outspends me by about 150:1. That's a fact! I was surprised to learn that. In raw numbers, I can't say the Season Pass is a huge amount of money. I can only say, it's more than I want to spend on that. But others may feel differently, and we all vote with our wallets.

You have got to be kidding.

    I'm done.

Someone let me know when I can buy a real pro bundle again. With two free Genesis 3/2/1 pro bundles and $60 worth of Daz originals.

I feel bad for the new people here, this place used to be great.

I dabbled in Daz for a little bit before Genesis 8 came out with the free stuff I could get, and then I think it was March Madness, but I could be wrong, but Aiko 8 came out and I took the actual plunge and started buying A LOT of stuff. That was three years ago. I'm at nearly $10k spent, an average of $3k a year, so $250 a month. Used to be quite a lot more, I've not really bought much since Kwan came out. I love the bundles that came with him, but ever since.... not so much.

I'm sure others have spent a lot more than I have, but I still would consider myself a high spender here, I mean, I could have bought a car with that money. But now with everything the way it is I can't justify my addiction anymore. I can't even use like %90 of the characters I have because loading time is insane. I also don't remember Studio being as crazy sluggish as it is now. Things are going downhill fast in Dazneyland.

You had to make me look and I wish I hadn't surprise

I've been resisting the temptation.  But my content inventory spreadsheet is almost at 7500 items and that was kind of the "gulp... " moment (actually I said something different but it's not repeatable).

Deepswing, Daz Studio is free to use, you don't pay a monthly fee to use it like Photoshop. It's my opinion Daz fails to understand their customers. They crank out variations of the same thing and no one is going to buy stuff they already essentially own. After six months they give away new stuff for $2.99 in order to squeeze a few bucks out of nothing. There is thread after thread after thread of buyers begging for new products and still all we get are more pretty faces and sci-fi suits.

Yes, Daz Studio is free, I totally get that and I am very happy for this. But the new season pass looks like they are exploring options to convert that model, not to the studio itself, but to the content. Something like "pay us $100 a month and get xyz for free". The season pass looks just like the first step into that direction.

You are making a very good point, this might result in why everyone is not buying so much and Daz has to look into different directions now. I am pretty much the same, my library is huge, and I just don't need character 159. Not saying this is the direction I like, in case someone reads that in my lines...

Well, they tried encrypting content in the past.  No download files, all auto-magic-install (aka "trash your content directory") while on-line.  Your sale was only intended to "unlock" content. Frotunately, that didn't last very long.  At least this time, I'm in the same position you are - huge content library, so I can take my money and spend it somewhere else. Ooohhh... groceries...

Oye, so I just had to re-edit my submission for a third time and add the seasonpass category as I checked and my image was not in the category again.

I'm just going to add a screenshot here showing that it is in the seasonpass category in case I check in a couple of hours and it's not there again, it's proof I've submitted it. Mine is the top left.

I feel your pains. ;-) Store page says: 30679 of 38102 items and my Product Library page is already on page 198 ... (Toys toys toys - which ones to use - and where the heck is that one I know I have in here somewhere ... ;-P )
