    Bummer...

Yesterday my furry friend Brynn passed away.

Brynn was my close friend's pup, she was a loving and incredibly affectionate rescue pooch who I never once saw exhibit the slight bit of anger or impatience (unless that impatience was for giving big wet kisses)...

I know it's lame to lament a pet that's not "yours", but I don't really see animals as belongings or property... if they are in your care, they are either friends or family... and creatures that I make friends with are like people-friends to me, if they live somewhere else, or are family member to friends, then they are a part of that family to me.

Brynn developed cancer a year or so ago and received surgery which seemed to take care of it, but a couple of months ago it came back and a few days ago one of her tumors would not stop bleeding, so yesterday her family decided to let her go.

I'll miss her greetings and huge wet kisses, going over and seeing her wearing an outfit (she actually would enjoy wearing clothes and liked napping with a hat on, using to to cover her eyes while she napped).

Her family was told that before she was removed from her previous home, that she was left unattended for days at a time tethered to a ramshackled doghouse and lived entirely outdoors regardless of the weather.

Her new adopted family (my friends) took great care of her and showered her with love, so hopefully the rest of her life made up a bit for the earlier part.

She will be missed a lot.

Thanks... I'm a little bummed out about it, and feeling bad for my friends too.

This is why I can't have any pets anymore... I'm too sappy to deal with their passing.

I feel like if the universe places one in my care, that's fine, but I can't actively go out and get one... in the past all the other animals I lived with came into my life that way... and when they departed it was always too sad.

Even a dog friend that doesn't live with me is too sad to say farewell to.

    Gagh... I'm too mushy.

...sad to hear of your loss, Even a friend's or neighbour's furry companion can feel like one of your own.

I've been "adopted" by other acquaintances' four legged companions more times than I can remember.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes... I let my friend's know about my mentioning Brynn's passing here and that I included a picture of her and that made them a little happy because she was a big ham and loved attention.

My wireless mouse is going in circles, no rectangular shape motions.  Trying to fix it.

...non complaint: was a beautiful "seasonable" summer day yesterday.

Complaint:  Back into the Easy Bake Oven™ again today and again this weekend.

if the forecasts hold true that would be 30 days this year of 90° of above (including 4 days of 100° or above) which would be one day shy of the all time record (31 days in 2018).

Is it a good idea to teach a cat to meow?

That's no fun, why not teach her to bark instead.

Thank you... I feel weird mentioning it because she wasn't actually my dog... not just on the existential level of "can one being own another"...
But she was part of my close friend's family... I've known her since I was a wee lad... (small kid, not piddling about with reckless abandon)... also, the "her" is my friend who is more like a sister to me, so they are basically family...
I feel weird mentioning Brynn's (the pup) passing, because she didn't live with me, but she was like family and everyone used to call her my "little girlfriend" because of how affectionate she was with me (pup kisses, not leg stuff).
I'm not correcting anyone, but sometimes people are like "oh, it's a friend's pet", so I just wanted to clarify... but being that friend is more like a sister, it's like losing a furry niece.
    "Furry niece"... conjures funny images...
I've gotten that "oh" reaction in the past because my friend has had a lot of dogs, all of which I've bonded with, and it's a real bummer each time they've passed on... well, except one (who was more her sister's dog), and that dog really need to have the cat mafia put a hit out on it... it was quite sociopathic on a dog level and it was well loved and cared for... Literally nobody missed that dog and there was a collective sigh of relief when it shuffled off its mortal coil on the bumper of a moving taxi it attacked.
It was like as if Hitler came back as a dog.
But aside from that insane canine, I've been close to all the others (usually they've had three at a time)... and out of all of them Brynn was my bestest buddy... I felt the need to explain...
I probably don't need to explain that to dog people (dog enthusiasts, not human/canine hybrids) because they usually understand the canine practice of "extended pack"... but sometimes people might not understand being bummed out by the passing of a pet that doesn't live with you.
But once again thanks... and to everyone else too.

I had a friend who's cat couldn't meow... it was probably some vocal problem, but it would start to meow and halfway through it would sound like it burped or was going to barf... in a cute way... mostly because the cat always looked confounded by that... it was a running gag (probably a very tired one at that) that I used to tell it "it's pronounced "meow"... you need to work on the "ow" part"... Ultimately, she never learned though.

Apparently, these things are more complicated than mere humans imagine. Our tomcat can't purr properly, meaning he purrs like a lion or a tiger - only on breathing out - and not like the 'proper' housecat should, continuously. He doesn't mind at all, but it always seems like purring is verrrrry hard work this way.

I'm real sorry about the dog you liked so much, by the way. She looked way too big for cowardly me, but had such a sweet face somehow ... How cool that she got rescued by your friends from that awful situation where she was at first!

    ...complaint.

Thought we would make it out of the fire season unscathed, primarily due to an overly wet spring (the wettest in 86 years which here in the "Pacific Northwet" is saying something).  However with only q couple weeks to go for the fire season  yesterday strong gusty winds began blowing in smoke from various wildfires in the eastern and southern part of the state as well as from Idaho.

Yesterday it was still thin and high in the atmosphere, but this morning I woke up to see an orange sky and the sunlight coming through the windows currently is red-orange in colour (about 11:50 local time right now).  Since the wind has died down significantly today, the smoke is already beginning to settle to the surface as it is getting hazier as the day goes on.

Air quality went from "Good", to Unhealthy overnight.

Windows  closed and time to get out one of the remaining N-95s I've been saving just for such a case.

..well one positive thing, the thick smoke from the fires filtered the sun enough to keep temperatures below 90° today (forecast high was 96°).

Damn... that's a harsh situation when the fires of a burning planet blot out the sun enough to stifle some of the other heat from that burning planet.

Yeah... we are f_ _ _ed.

Well, at least when the polar ice caps completely melt, it'll put out most of the fires.

I personally welcome our new polar bear overlords.
