Thank you for the good wishes though, very much appreciated.

hoping that all will work out for you

Kulay, I am so sorry about Fred.

KK, you're in my thoughts today.  I hope the meeting goes golden for you, not black.

TroutFace, Another hot day ahead.  Time for you to come out of the closet.

I have good news and bad news.  The bad news is that something is wrong with the inside of my heart.  The good news is I'm going to have heart surgery soon. Yay!  I don't mean to sound selfish but please leave get-well messages in this thread so that I can keep track of them:http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/27814/starion-s-wip-and-test-thread/p24

Geez... I don't read this thread for a couple of days and the whole damn world goes to hell...

@ kyoto kid... I really wish you the best of luck... I hope everything will turn out well.

@ Kulay Wolf... I'm hoping Fred was a fish... Never attempt to flush a dead roommate down the toilet... Apparently the authorities do not find this to be an acceptable manner of send-off.

@ starionwolf... I'm guessing the "Yay!" was sarcasm... Not a lot of people enjoy heart surgery... but the good thing is that in recent years the recovery times have decreased and the aftercare methods and treatment have greatly improved... Good luck and be well.

@ MistyMist... You have a Peeping Tom snake... They look very similar to garter snakes, except they don't wear garters and they are much faster. Placing a short line of privacy film about 6 inches high along the glass will usually stop them from looking in or taking pictures... Well, not the one with those smaller GoPro cameras.

Stay well folks... I hate bad news and perverted reptiles... Good luck.

..heart issues are nothing to take lightly.

My situation may be bad. but it pales in comparison to something that is as life threatening.

Similarly, my heart troubles are currently under control and I now feel better than I have in months but there will come a day...

    Best wishes.

...thank you all for the kind words and support.

Spoke with my landlady this morning and came away feeling pretty bad, not just for me but for her. I can easily understand her position as she is semi retired and looking to keep her life in order. I don't wish to make things more difficult for her as again she's been so accommodating over the years I've been here. Guess I am like one of those "bad investments" on Wall Street one should avoid.

I'm both looking forward to and dreading to this afternoon's meeting.  Part of me just want's to get it over with so I can move on, though to where I am not sure.

Sarcasm?  Excuse me, but I have a hole in my heart in between the left and right sides.  Of course I am excited to have the heart surgeon fix the hole so that I can live a fairly normal life.

I didn't mean anything negative by that... My standard response to any hospital or emergency room trip is "Yay!" Or "Whooohoo!"...  I once had a master-cylinder/ brake failure and my friend told me as we drove off the road into the woods, I was going "Weeeeeeeeee!".....  I'm pretty sure I wasn't enjoying it, but that's how I talk....

My father-in-law needed open heart surgery a few years ago and happily scheduled it for the day he discovered he needed it... No joke, the doctor asked him when he might want to schedule it and my father in law asked when was the soonest date, the doctor joking told him there was a cancelation for later that day and he said "let's do it"...  Shocked the hell out of the doctor... But my father in law is almost a Vulcan, so it was no surprise to anyone.

I'm happy you are happy, but not happy you need it in the first place... But I'm glad you'll be getting the treatment you need.

Good luck, and I hope didn't think I was making fun or being rude... I am stupid and rude, but not in this instance.

Well... The stupid part I suppose is consistent...

Good luck and a speedy recovery.

If that is what your serpentine friend looks like, it is not a Garter snake... That is a Northern (or eastern... I forget) Ring-Neck Snake... They are much rarer on Long Island.

Forget the squirrels, it's the Raccoons that feast on them.

Garter snakes have yellowish-ivory stripes that run front to back... And a crosshatch pattern in between... Also they are greener.

I occasionally get Garter snakes in my yard... Up to 1 1/2  ft.... Cute little boogers.

We have a box turtle my girls named "Fred" (or Tim) that apparently has been in my yard for several years... Did you know LI still has several types of salamanders here too?  Not native, but apparently harmless, Italian Wall Lizards have taken up residence in both counties, and have even been found in Queens recently.

If Tom likes to hang out on your window sill, and you want to provide him a nearby refuge, make a patch of forest litter (the damp type, nothing too rough or hard), take some 3/4"-1" straight sticks, get a small board, lay out the sticks like walls to support the board and create space under the board... If you are really lucky, Tom might start hanging out there... Mostly it'll be full of earwigs and rolly-pollies, but maybe he'll go there for a snack.

The only sure fire way to get wildlife to inhabit something is to put something you absolutely don't want them in, outside.

Maybe leave your main dresser outside for a week or two... You'll probably find many rare and incontinent creatures living in it rather quickly.

A bad iPad picture of Fred/Tim... (No hat)

dwe haz possums on Long Island, but they not marsupials.  so not as cute as snakes or raccoons

huh, or mebbe they are marsupial?  head scr'tch

wowww according to this, the american possum is a marsupial  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_opossum

dunno if is cause i see em at night only, but they creep me out.

next time i meet one, i'll be nicer to it.

double woww - They rarely transmit diseases to humans, and are surprisingly resistant to rabies, mainly because they have lower body temperatures than most placental mammals. In addition, opossums limit the spread of Lyme disease, as they successfully kill off most disease-carrying ticks that feed on them.

Yeah, they are marsupials... But not the tricycle riding type.  If you think they are creepy looking alive, I found a mummified one under my yard tractor this spring... Freaked the hell out of me, because I was pushing the tractor and I looked down as I almost stepped on it... It looked like it was cursing at world when it died... One hand out like it was saying "Damn you all to hell!!  They are very prehistoric looking critters... They do look a lot better if you can manage to get them into Victorian era costumes... But they tend to hiss a lot because all that wool is itchy.

They are very resistant to rabies, I've bitten at least ten of them and not one has gotten rabies.

tee hee  iz eating grapes.  there vineyards out east.  i bet possums like it there.

    clickies for yoo new eggs

i heard that raccoons like to wash their berries before they eat 'em.

  • McGyverMcGyver Posts: 7,050

Possums were the first to start a vineyard on Long Island... The colonists ripped off the idea from them. Why do you think possums waddle when they walk... It's all that homemade wine. They don't actually play dead either... They just pass out frequently.

...and unlike possums, raccoons are a major vector of rabes.

Wild muscadine vines grow around here. The fruit is locally known as 'possum grapes.

They are very sweet and make great jelly. The muscadines, that is, not the possums. cheeky
