That would still be a short lifespan for G9, compared to G3/G8/G8.1 or even just G8/G8.1
If DS5 ever fixes loading times for large libraries I'm going to have even less motivation to ever move past G3-G8.
I'm still mostly invested in 8/8.1 and I've been enjoying getting good deals the last few days on some stuff I wanted to pick up. I have bought a few g9 items and I've liked a few of the G9 figures but I'm still not sold on G9.
Broke...so buying squat...if anything.. g8...it's the last chracter that, kind of, works...

Saving for real Illusions CC4 & iClone 8, probably cost me around $2K to get a usable workflow and base assets.
I'm exhausted by daz3d upgrdaes and improvments that just don't. I have been hit by every daz studio patch , red render skin patch, no loading of custom interfaces, UI display changes for color of interface, dforce not simulating, and Genisis 9 with no explainations or anything. I'm done, froze my daz studio version use what I got from daz, not buying rehashed newer Gensis 9 products.
Most fun I am having is a $9.99 purchase of Procreate for my iPad - relearning how to draw again after so much time and effort into 3d renders, it's just easier to draw it myself these days than fight all the inadequecieses and patches and fixes. Meh.
G8(.1). Any G9 stuff is purely due to being bundled in with G8 versions. I'm waiting for G10 TBH. There's still plenty of G8 stuff to keep me going, and I don't really feel like starting all over right now.
G8(.1) for me too. G9 just isn't doing it for me. After 5+ months of waiting for that thing to finally "wow" me into buying it, I've given up. Nice faces, not much else. Most people I know are still working G8 only too. At this point, I'll just hold off until we get g10 and see if that's any better.
As others have said, there's more g8 content than I know what to do with and other stores are selling new g8 content, so more rendo and renderhub purchases, way less Daz ones.
I agree.. G9 female torso has some real issues around breasts and under the arms... I have not purchased a lot of cloths for her due to these issues
G8.. My characters are G8 and I have an embarrassing number of G8 pose sets. Tried G8.1 but backed off because of expressions. I picked up the free and pay G9 starter sets and plan to pick up MMX's G9 resource saver kit; but am not in a hurry to use them. Future G9 purchase will be limited and focused on having just enough to give G9 a reasonable evaluation.. when I get around to it; again, not in any hurry. Oh.. and I will likely pick up a few PA products made for both G8 AND G9.
They had the usual introductory sales, soem during special promotions that made those larger than usual introductory sales, and I'm pretty sure the morph packs at least have had other offers since.
We don't have any current release date, hard or soft, for the next major version of Daz Studio.
Try the Public Build - the load process seems, for most users, to be noticeably shorter and the major slow-down when there are errors seems entirel;y gone for me (on a limited sample).
I want to buy genesis 9, but there simply isn't enough male content. Right now the store is filled with mostly genesis 9 female stuff, and when male content comes out it's a monster or a niche character like Santa.
I need more basic handsome men, with hd for genetics. Yes I know Santa is handsome, but I need more 9 males that are just useful to me genetically in the stereotypical young hunk way.
I am doing G9 exclusively now and clearihg out all of theb old stuff from my DAZ library. I mainly do pinup and Damsel in Distress art and am waiting for some vendors to get their G9 versions of some goodies out (like tied up for G9).
I don't have the money for spending on fun stuff anymore, so not really buying anything if it's not at least 80% off and on my wishlist. Which currently only has 5 things on it.
Though TBH, which generation has had a lot of male content for it? Men have more or less been afterthoughts in DAZLand.
I've mostly been using/buying 8 and 8.1, but I'm interested in G9. I'd mostly just want to wait for the stuff to go on sale, or for clothing items that are historical/Western, since I'm doing a lot of those sorts of renders right now.
If they do a Western themed Genesis 9 bundle... I'll have a hard time resisting.
Back in November - or thereabouts - I looked through my runtime. I've well over 100 G8F chaacters and most of the G8M. I've used maybe 15 or 20 of either. I've allso got enough clothing to stock several stores. So I'm self-imposing a moritorium on new characters, male or female, any generation. I still look at clothing - but I'm really only interested in loose, well lived in casual for either sex. I did pick up a couple of the early G9 characters, so I'm prepared in the event I decide to use them.
My DAZ Studio usage is about the realism of beauty, and G9 is all about the realism of beauty. But, in my opinion, the only successful hacks of G9 are Vicky9 and Vo Yonina. I'm here every day waiting for another hack but fail. Well, you can't get what you want every day. That's life!
i did buy the V9, M9, & some JoeQuick G9 products, otherwise I'm just spending the minimum to use my DAZ+ coupons & even so, I've skipped using the $6 off $18 coupon 2 months running.
Genesis 9 has exactly one product I want. I can't invest in a new figure ecosystem for just one product. That would be like investing a new game console that has only one game you want.

Well, it did make me actually read your post. Yes, somehow dozens of G8, and and at least as many from each of the the other generations, too. Hundreds, all told.
..not bothering at all with G9 as it's a budget buster for me. I also rarely if ever do portraits which 9 seems to be best suited for.
I also have been shying away from 8.1 because of the UV change, expressions, and occasional hierarchical presets. I spent a few weeks trying to get an 8.1 skin to work on a G8 character and look good without seams or other inconsistencies. Not a simple process. Also I found out none of the G8 expressions work on 8.1 (I have the 101 Expressions kit and even though all the sliders show up in the Poses/Head/Expressions for 8.1 they do nothing). Also some of the other general pose morphs for the head (several that I use regularly) no longer exist for which is part of why my attempt to build the same character from scratch using 8.1 didn't work.
So I've slowly been building a G8 library as items go on sale since both G8 and G3 share the same base mesh and UV which gives me a very wide variety of morphs, shapes (both through XTransfer), clothing fits, and materials to use. The only content I had to repurchase were some merchant resources and a couple HD morphs as they are exclusive to G8.
One reason I like about G8 is it offered a nice array of rather diverse and interesting characters compared to other generations which really expanded my character development "gene pool".
Between G3 and G8 (as well as G2 through Generation X, which can be transferred to 8 though XTransfer) I think I'm set for quite a while which leaves me more to put aside for a much needed system upgrade.

How to get Genesis 8 expressions working on Genesis 8.1 - Daz 3D Forums
Those instructions still talk about removing things in FACS folders which is wrong.
Making the G8 base expressions (and any expressions that are using them) work on G8.1 requires removing dummy/placeholder expressions that are installed to G8.1 morph folders - These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading.
The dummy/placeholder files are located in;
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
Please make sure you are removing the files from G8.1 morph folders and not G8 morph folders.
Note 1; If you are logging in to DS and letting DAZ Connect (within DS) to install/update your content, you may have these also in an other location that has "\Data\Cloud\" in it's path
Note 2; Do not remove any files from "FACS" or "FACSExpressions" folders
I'm only buying G8/8.1 products still. I'll get a G9 products if it supports 8 as well.
I gave up when the updates kept putting them back, so I don't buy genesis 8.1 characters anymore unless dirt cheap
I have bought a small amount of G9 stuff but likewise only if I can get it cheap
I have a few G9 characters but they do not convince me. V9 has a pretty face, that's it.
Initially, G9 characters were too small, now Joan 9 HD is almost as tall as V8.
I do not believe in the unisex base.
So far, I only bought G8 / G8.1 during March Madness.
