I´m avoiding G9 as well. Like others allready mentioned, it´s just no real improvement over G8 imho.
And I´m not buying much at all these days since lately almost all major discounts are tied to buying new releases which are mostly made for G9.
...⬆This⬆
Very same.
I like using a little bit of everything. I just dumped a cart, because I can't in conscience let myself go into any more debt for a hobby. So I totally empathize with the financial enormity of this hobby.
well they did sell me 2 more 8.1's today with JOYFUL8
creatures so don't need many expressions
Mostly buying G8 and some G3, when I am buying anything. My budget is very limited so far this year, plus too many deals are linked to New Releases. Yes, I know there's props, environments, etc. being released BUT I am still not buying those unless they interest me and I don't have something similar already.
So what little I have bought has been from the "up to X items at $Y.99 each" daily promos/flash sales that don't require a buy-in, and I prioritize my wishlist &/or favorite PAs.
Exactly. Content creators should continue bundling G8 and G9 together as one product, because not everyone is jumping on the G9 bandwagon. In other words, making it exclusive to G9 means less people will buy it.
And not providing any adequate G8 To G9 full character conversion tools may also have something to do with the lack of interest.
I wasn't sure about V9's freckles at first, but I like doing portraits and the portrait I did of her with her freckles got the most likes in the gallery I've ever had, which is kind of ironic. I've heard the various complaints about G9 but I like G9. I just have more G8 content than G9 and also and a tiny bit of 8.1 content to play with. I thought Victoria 8.1 was pretty so I got her on a deep discount during some sale quite a long time after she debuted.
This ^ Generation-gating is not very good in my opinion...
Well, some of us are quite fond of freckles so that may explain some of the extra likes :)
You could be right! :) I did a V9 portrait with foundation makeup covering her freckles (the ones on her face anyway). It didn't get as many likes. I do love playing with those card eyebrows too. One can change her face so much just by changing the shape of the eyebrows.
Yeah... Mom is a redhead with freckles, which makes me think something is missing, if they are not there
I buy G9 only, unless there's something I think I can adapt from G8 that's particularly unique.
I really like how Genesis 9 functions, I love the unisex base, I love working with it, and I've been pleasantly surprised how well a lot of previous content works with it.
I'm not throwing any money at Genesis 9 yet. No real surprise there, as I haven't been an early adopter of previous generations, but I'm starting to have doubts that I'll ever get much use out of Genesis 9:
1. To me, it's the worst body shape of any Genesis figure, a big slab of a torso perfect for Gumby fanfiction, but not ideal as a base for the sorts of humans, male or female, that I would want to render. The body shapes I'm seeing for PA-created character models are not usually tempting for me to purchase, especially since I'd be paying a premium for newness while older generations are seeing deeper discounts in pricing.
2. The trend seems to be to try to appeal to users who enjoy closeups and extreme closeups and have an interest in skin microdetail and differentiation of pigmentation (freckles, vitiligo, etc.). I generally prefer medium-distance shots, and I'm more interested in geometry (body shape) than skin detail, where I would generally prefer smooth complexions.
3. There doesn't seem to be any improvement in joints from Genesis 8. In the renders I'm seeing, the neck, shoulders, and upper arms have the same issues as previous Genesis figures, and sometimes the wrists and elbows look worse.
4. A figure fits into a larger system to produce finished renders, which is all I'm interested in. Daz and PAs are hoping (understandably) that I'll spend money on a new figure to use within the same app with the same render engines. And a new generation of figure doesn't solve issues with hair or clothing fits. I'm not seeing better renders since the introduction of Genesis 9, and much of that is due to issues which couldn't be solved by the introduction of a new generation of character model by itself.
5. Similarly, the hair, wardrobe, and props sold along with the figures aren't radically better than Genesis 8 stuff. It's just stuff made to fit Genesis 9. It's the same genres and ideas, same Iray materials, same dForce, same hairstyles with new names (usually). If I could make essentially the same render with Genesis 8 assets, why spend money on the newest stuff at higher prices?
6. Of course, things could change radically with Daz 5.0 or Genesis 9.1. At, that point, we're just speculating, optimistically or pessimistically.
[I'm too afraid to do a web search to see what's out there for Gumby fanfiction. Most of it is probably NSFW.]
Bought the basic DO G9 stuff to check it out (not fond of the default figure so hard to get good results without morphs etc.), plus a few things extra, some by accident because I still haven't made a habit of checking if new products is for G8 or G9, but that's OK, I'll keep them as I like them. But mostly waiting to see where things are going before making any decisions, have tons of G8 stuff so don't really need anything anyway.
Have everything I need with 7 & 8. Not interested in 9.
I'm buying zero G9 products. For me, G9 is a step backwards with more problems than G8 has:
I see camps for G9 the same as I see camps for the AI nonsense. But I won;t name the camps because then my post gets deleted. Anyway, if I see the camps, you probably can, too..
In that case, G9 is a placeholder the same as 8.1, and no reason for me to touch either of those. YMMV. More reflectively, I really am interested to see what G9 is in about a year, and I am fairly content to wait out a year to see what happens. There was one coupon tht would have got me off the fence, but I missed out on that because the end date was not stated and I wavered on what else to get. So, back to waiting.
Genesis 1, the previous unisex base, lasted 19 months.
Or they could be test dummies for Genesis X, G8.1 for the new shader and G9 for the face
19 months, is that all? I think that was the most creative 19 month period in DAZ history with maybe the period when DAZ did Multiman, Girl 8, Toon Dwayne, Edie 8, & Ollie 8, among other great characters competing.
That makes no sense at all.
This isn't true, though.
Slowly upgrading utilities that I deem mandatory, and waiting for corrective morphs for the bad bends before devoting much time or $$ to G9. Got a few characters and made a couple that I'm happy with, but so far sticking mostly with G8
I have`nt bought much of anything in a while.
Im still happy with 8/8.1
I`m thinking that I may have all that I need for the work that I do, or the sales just aren`t appealing enough for me to buy anything.
I just cant seem to find anything that I need or want (even for free) at this time and it`s weird because I spent some bucks last March Madness here and at the other marketplaces. So much that I was in the doghouse for a while.
But on the bright side, My awesome wife was so shocked that I spent so little the past few months that she let me buy a 2500.00 guitar that I`ve been wanting
