Well, it'd be funny and appropriate to have to put on a fig leaf. ;)

That is funny!  But, yeah, very appropriate!

Oh, I saw this in the gallery and liked it.  I really love the overall feel to the render.  You did a nice job on this one mal3Imagery.

Another experiment. The skin is actually several generated textures on an iray decal.

Again, I don't think this is ever going to be as good as a well-made skin map, but it does allow me to create skin maps for unusual stuff that might otherwise not work very well (like, say, stuff with geografts) where the skin doesn't have to be perfect.

I cheated a little by having a lip mask so some of the lip is Nevio. This required a figure, a clone of the figure to provide eyelashes, a decal on the figure, and then a geoshell to add in stuff like eyes and such (although in retrospect I guess I could have skipped the geoshell and made the clone do all that -- originally I had been hoping I could set the eyelashes of the geoshell separate from the base figure, but couldn't figure out how to make it work)

Note to self...  never install new power supply then upgrade to Windows 10.

2nd note to self... ensure correct cables are plugged into the correct socket.

@knittingmommy - thanks for the info, I'll try it with my next he-man render, after I've finish having my breakdown.

@timmins.william - Neftis hair, particularly curly M4 ones, are pretty good for statues.

Hey, Butch! I wondered what happened to you!  Guess now I know.  smiley  I take it things have worked out successfully if you managed to get back here.  Personally, I hate Windows 10.  Working very hard to transfer everything to new OS, but sadly, haven't gotten DS to play nice with the new OS yet so I still have Windows 10 on my computer.  Someday soon, though, it goes bye-bye!  Welcome back.

Well, I now moved back to win 7, until I'm certain the pc's running with no issues. I don't mind win 10, so I'll reinstall when things are looking ok.  I've got 10 on my old pc and DS appears to work ok on it - although, the pc lacks the necessary oomph in the render dept.

A little while ago, on another site, one of the artists commented how she couldn't cope with cropping images. I have no such problem laugh

The main thing I don't like about Win 10 is that it seems to try to remove some of the control I have over some of the features.  This Microsoft Edge thing for viewing PDFs won't let me change to my preferred PDF program stay as the default PDF viewer.  It has hidden or made it more difficult to get to controls that I used all the time in Win 7.  If I hadn't needed to upgrade my memory to 32 mg, I would have left it at Win 7, but I had the home edition instead of Pro and there is a memory cap there.  So, I tolerate Win 10 for now, but I'm moving everything over to Linux again which I had used until I found DAZ a year and a half ago and switched back to Win 7.  As soon as I get DAZ and a few other programs working under Linux, I'll make the move completely to get Windows off my desktop.  I may keep Win 7 on the laptop.  I haven't decided that yet.

Okay, to keep this on topic, I just uploaded this fellow to my gallery.  Not my usual style.  I did this for Mec4D's contest over in her PBR Shaders Vol. 2 commercial thread.  She gave away some awesome free green shaders for St. Patrick's Day.

It isn't the normal way of cropping an image, but I love how it turned out.  It actually looks really nice like that!  Love the scruffy look!  Nice DOF.

Nothing wrong with cropping a photo for more impact. Although I can understand how hard it can be when it's not a photo, but part of a 3D scene that took a lot of work to put together in the first place.

    Anyway, very nice image.

I saw this before you added the hat. I think both versions looked good. Did you use a specailty morph to create your leprechaun, or several of the body morphs? Either way, you did a fine job. He looks believable. smiley

He is actually the straight Dwarf Base from Dwarf Creator for Genesis 2 Male by Smay.  There are several faces, but I just used the base figure.  I really like the dwarf faces.  There are nine of them.  It would be nice if they had been on dials to spin and combine, but Smay did make dials to adjust parts of the of the head and face so you can adjust things like ears, brows, jowls and stuff like that to make more unique characters.  I pull it out every once in awhile when I feel like doing some type of fantasy dwarf or elf.  Very cool product.  Check out the product page because Smay has a cool video that shows how to use the product and where all the dials are.  It was tough getting that hat and hair to play nicely, but I tracked down my copy of SY's Hat and Hair Helper and that helped immensely with the hat.  I actually forgot I had the hat when I originally rendered the little fellow.  When Mec4D said a hat would have made it more obvious, I had to track one down.  I couldn't believe I forgot that leprechauns usually had hats!

    Yeah... and pipes, too! wink

    Thank you.

  • I very rarely crop, not because I'm against it but because I can't bear not having the image framed properly in the camera in the first place. It's easier in Studio than with a real camera as you are not under the same pressures as taking a photograph under live conditions. I think it's important, whether you frame in Studio or crop, to use pleasing proportions (unless you have specific constraints for publishing) and I think the more radical your crop the more important the final proportions are. Of course, there are lots of articles and tutorials on this.

    Lol I like it laugh

Actually, in regards to odd cropping, I borrowed the idea from a tumblr page I stumbled upon.  The creator craftily crops porn movie stills into, almost bland, g rated images - it's a rather nifty thing.

What could be interesting is doing a whole render and posting it and then post 2 or 3 different cropped versions of the image.

@L'Adair  Okay, even supposing I could find an appropriate pipe, I'm not re-rendering this thing again!! laugh  I'll keep that in mind for next year, though.

@Butch Thanks, glad you like it.  I'll have to give that cropping technique a try in the near future.

@evilded777  I love this image!  Of course, I'm a sucker for romance!  I love the posing.  Just very nicely done!

@gerterasmus  Hey! You're back!  Good to see you again.  Haven't seen you in the forums in awhile.  I agree, that could be an interesting study of cropping techniques!

I like your cropped image, Butch. I tend to do my cropping as I set up the scene to render.

All cropping, for me, is done in Studio.  Unless I'm hiding something I overlooked in the original image.

I'm trying my hardest to not do any post processing, if I can help it. My preference is to try for the best possible shot, using the available tools in studio (admittedly Octane Render helps big time).  Although, every now and then I'll experiment.

Playing around with Daemones.  First one is on M4 using original skin, but hit with Iray Uber Shader.  Second one is converted onto G2M and used Jepe's Madoc skin for Iray with Mec4D's Unshaven2 and Real Hairy.  Same Daemones morphs, but gives it a slightly younger appearance.  He has a squinting problem though from the conversion.  I'll have to work on that and see if I can figure out how to do the conversion without the exagerated squint.

So this was proabably a dumb idea. I thought it might be cool to put a guy on the floor in a suit. But then when I had him down there, I thought..."Now what?" And this is what I came up with. I had to do a little post work because I didn't have a ladies' garment to toss on the floor.
