What a great looking product and a huge game changer. Hopefully users know better to not share or sell any commercial, non merchant resource textures they modify
I just purchased this product and I love how it make it simple for a n00b like me to be able to create my own skins and such for characters. However, there is one little issue I have with the product.
When I have the app open and I want to look at what the changes I have made look like in Iray, I get a very bright light shining on the figure. Imagine the figure standing fairly close to an intense spotlight. In the texture mode, the lighting is normal. Is there something I need to do to adjust the lighting in the Iray mode so I can see my progress?
Nice:). Ye eventually you will get used to how the options work and find the sweet spots. I'm still busy on an addon for more details that didn't quite make the release date. One I hope to add is Aging skin wrinkles for Diffuse and bump if I can get it right. Right now the wrinkle masks aren't doing what I want lol.
Ooooo, addon products!
I'm definitely going to have to explore the tint masks, and what I can do with making my own to add to the set.
I really like what this does for unusual character requirements.
like this good for am alien or a supernatural type character

Off to purchase!
Actually, any non-merchant resource, commercial or not - unless it specifically allows redistribution.
I think there's a little bug with presets. I havent tried to duplicate this, to see if this happens every time, but in my latest test genital material preset has SSS Amount = 1, while rest of the body has 2, so there's a small visible seam. It's not a big deal to change it manually, but I thought you might want to know.
Is it possible to modify an existing skin? I ask, because i can only see the base skin if i start Skin Builder and i can not see the skin of the selected character.
The lighting in my iRay Skin Builder preview camera is very much brighter than the iRay view is when Skin Builder is closed too, but this product turned out to be everything it promised to be and more. I love it. You guys have every reason to be proud of what you've done. Draagonstorm's spirit must be absolutely soaring right now.
On the face of it (no pun intended!), it's masses faster to create a skin than it was with the previous version, but in reality it takes just as long if not longer because of the enormous amount of options available to someone like me who just can't stop tweaking, fiddling, messing about and generally saying 'Ooh - it can do this too. Got to try!' If you know what you want to achieve and are familiar with the software, you can probably get it done in no time at all. Being able to save presets that don't rely on LIE to reload is fantastic as well. I think it was on the Facegen thread that someone suggested characters created with it weren't worth buying because they were something 'anyone with the software' could do'. I'd certainly dispute that if anyone is thinking the same about characters created with Skin Builder - it's not just some kind of 'paint by numbers' cookbook thing, it's something with endless possibilities that can help the artist realise what's in their imagination more easily and saying otherwise would be like saying that anyone with a word processor can create a best seller. Having said that, I'm not sure why anyone who owns it would ever want to buy another figure again unless it was something really exceptional or was part of a deal that substantially brought down the price of something else they wanted.
Anyway, attached is Zhusha. I realised from the outset that I probably lack the imagination to keep coming up with names for characters and so I use this random name generator. You can choose to generate names from lots of different genres, countries and cultures - I hope it's of use to anyone short of ideas or who would rather spend time creating characters than naming them.
Back to Zhusha. She is my latest (and I think fourth attempt), so she's not too bad for it really. The first few used so many skin features blended together that they looked like they could populate the waiting room of a dermatitis clinic but, having conceded that less is more, the main thing I think I'd change on this one is to give the eyebrows (all of them!) a little bit of transparency or make them slightly less dark. Next on the agenda is to try adding an option or two of my own to those available. There's so much else I should be doing instead, but this is such fun. And it is essential that I give the product a proper road test, isn't it? :)
Hi! I'm new to Daz and just bought the skin builder 3 ad on ... but it dosen't open when I try to use it... I have daz 4.9 on a Mac... it says it couldn't load properly and refers to the log...!?

Hi schlunke, here's a note from Zev0 on this issue:
I debated and debated and debated and debated... and finally pulled the trigger on jumping to Genesis 3, thanks to this product (though Josh Crockett softened the field).
Also got a slew of other Zev0 Genesis 3 stuff.
(The fact that this is a merchant resource, and I have SP2 now to fiddle with skins further or provide starting points, are also big incentives)
First try with SB3! I deliberately kept this test fairly simple and light - freckles, skin pores, light blush, and I did add some spider veins and regular veins but at such a low level that they barely read. I'm really impressed with the eye and lip builder, which seem to be a huge improvement over the first Skin Builder, though that may just be Iray and the hit of NGS2 at the end. I need to tweak the eyebrows a bit more as they're too uniformly colored for my taste, though the match to the hair is fantastic...but overall this is a skin that I can see myself using a lot in the future. Another fantastic product! (CU images are at full render size, full shot is reduced in photoshop.)
First experiment, plus trying out other morphs (in future I'll probably rely on GenX for starting point, in this case her face is pure dial spun from 200 face morphs thing)
Also tried the skin settings as is. Again, in future, I'll probably use Anagenessis or a number of other options to tweak to my liking, but even as a first pass this is quite nice.

SB3 + NGS2 is an incredibly powerful combination. God only knows what kind of insane results we're going to be able to get when NGS3 arrives. As it is, though, the problem now is that the textures are now outpacing what the functionality of the base figure can do again... at least until we finally get softbody collisions and dynamic hair for DS.

You can do it, Zev0 posted some pages back; obviously, you can only do it for personal use, and possible not even then from the terms of service; perhaps someone official could confirm.
Do not generate a base skin, just use the overlays and add them to your existing skin.
Here's my first serious attempt, great content, really amazing.
Yeah, it's worth pointing out that if SB3 seems expensive to someone, it's like Skin Builder + Skin Overlay + one or another of skin overlay packages (more limited but a bunch of options)
This started off as an 'adding my own eyebrows' thing, but the one eyebrow just got longer. Only an experiment, but it does just go to show what you can do with the product.

I'm planning on picking up the UV Swap tool from Sloshwerks as soon as it's on sale (or when I need it, since it's pretty cheap).
What tool is that?
Oh never mind, I found it

I made a skin!
ETA: Although I seem to have misunderstood how to save it off as an independent texture. Hmm.

Really enjoying getting to know this product but what is the best way get the stretch marks, veins etc effects to show effectively in Iray renders?
Any advice appreciated :)

Hi schlunke, here's a note from Zev0 on this issue:
here is the mac fix https://www.dropbox.com/s/fi4wjpltymxjt9q/Skin Builder 3.dse?dl=0
Just replace the script with this one.
There will be an official update release asap, but for those who can't wait this fix is the same thing.
My third attempt. The same skin on G3F and G3M with G3F UV (and some different characters and morphs dialled in); the beard is from Leandros Hair.
I debated and debated and debated and debated... and finally pulled the trigger on jumping to Genesis 3, thanks to this product (though Josh Crockett softened the field).

Welcome to G3!
G4 will be released tomorrow. ;)
(jk)
They don't release stuff like that on Sundays. Monday is the earliest... ;)
It's wonderful Zev. Beautiful dedication. Congrats!
