...well today it was the commute from hell, both ways.

As my schedule at the day job was changed I now have to start later in the morning. While I welcomed being able to sleep in a bit later, this unfortunately puts me in the thick of the worst part of the morning commute when buses are most overcrowded. During the week I tried several route options, but each time, ended up on a rolling sardine can.

Now I don't do very well in crowds, as a matter of fact, it makes me feel slightly ill since I feel like I can't breathe (I wouldn't do well at all in Tokyo and have no desire to visit there - they have attendants on the commuter train platforms who's job it is to cram as many people as possible onto the trains).

Another thing is people often will not move out of the way when you ask them. It's as if they expect one to be a contortionist to get around them (and their bulky backpack if they have one). That's definitely a no-go with my stiff achy joints. At times I have been forced to ride past my stop and then take a bus in the opposite direction to get to my destination.

It makes me almost want to carry a cattle prod in my shoulder bag.

This also being the cold & flu season, not really thrilled about standing face to face with someone who should have stayed home in bed or having someone coughing and sneezing over my shoulder.

At least the segment between midtown and where I work is fine as I am going in the opposite direction of the commute flow.

So the morning commute was bad enough. It couldn't get any worse...could it?

Normally the bus I connect with in midtown for the evening ride home isn't bad, and I can usually get a seat. Not so tonight. For one, it was more than ten minutes late, and second, there was an unusually large crowd at the stop waiting (some most likely who would normally be on the next run). I would have deferred to the next run, but according to the video display at the stop, it was also running late and not due for another twenty seven minutes. Not wanting to stand in the cold pouring rain for nearly another half hour (already had been waiting nearly twenty minutes) I got on the one that was there against my better judgement. Seems that at every stop we picked up about a half dozen people until the aisle was completely clogged. Then that "closed in" feeling began to hit. When we reached the first stop after leaving downtown, I had to get off and fortunately was close to the rear door to make a hasty exit.

Had to let another bus (different route) which was just as crowded go by. Finally ended up taking a bus that left me with about a half mile walk (in the cold pouring rain) as at least it wasn't packed to the front door.

Left the workplace at 5:00 walked in the door at home cold, wet, frustrated, and 5$ poorer for the "delightful" experience, just after 7:00.

Made a batch of spicy homemade burritos (extra lean beef and black bean topped with hand cut vine tomatoes, onions, shredded sharp cheddar, taqeueria salsa, and sour creme) to chase away the chill.

Tomorrow, going to get up at the my original time, and hang out downtown at a coffee shop for a half hour or so before heading to the west side. Can't really afford the extra expense but the experiences like I had these last several mornings is not a good way to start off the workday. Hopefully what happened on the homeward commute tonight was an unusual and rare situation.

If it weren't for that mandatory evil known as "insurance", I'd drive. It would save me between two to three hours a day, and even at the price of petrol here, cost less per day than the the price of a full day transit ticket.

Hmm anyone know where those 100 Unqiue Figures posts went? Where the guy had used Vue and Poser to put 100 figures into one scene over the course of a dozen or so renders then stitched them together?

    WARNING: OLD GUY RANT ALERT!
After reading about KK's commute, I am inspired to write about behavior that bugs me. Since I retired I don't like to cook so I spend much of my day at a local burger joint (Hardee's) where I eat and pass the time around a table with some friends of mine.
Like many such establishments, customers who are dining in can fill and refill their coffee or soft drinks themselves. A few customers come inside to order their meals "to go". Those who do this can exhibit what I consider to be odd behavior.
    1. Standing around waiting for their orders while blocking the aisles - people are mostly polite where I live so they will move out of your way when asked, but why does it not occur to them that they can stand somewhere other than the aisles?
    2. When it isn't as crowded, many people will move over to wait for their orders and lean on the shelf in front of the drink dispenser. As this tends to be a busy place, where folks are often filling or refilling their drinks, why do they think that it's OK to perch there?
    3. This one never ceases to amaze/amuse me. I go to the drink machine and someone who has received their "to go" order is standing in front of the drink machine with their beverage cup, filling, drinking, refilling and repeating, while I am standing and waiting for a refill. Are they really that thirsty? Are they trying to get their "money's worth"? By the way, these are not little children (whom I am always willing to cut some slack - they don't know any better), but grown men (always men) in their 20s-30s.

    END RANT

Oh yes I like the words you write,
But not much keeps me up at night,
Except the barking of my dog,
While I am sleeping like a log.

I do! I love the words you write!
And I would read them late at night,
And I would read them in a boat,
And I would read them with a goat!

There is no way that I'm a saint
So I will post todays complaint
I woke too early in my bed
Through I was sleeping like the dead
    no somnolence came my way
So I got up, began my day
I skipped shaving (hate the fuss)
And headed out to catch the bus. :blank:

The night was warm, I didn't freeze
    It was near 65 degrees
The sky was dark and overcast
But this is Texas, it won't last
The 3 block walk was somewhat nice
Although I had to do it twice
    Forgetfulness, it does not please
I seemed to forget my keys! :bug:

The bus was empty, driver dull
So I just stared and had to mull
On tress, and houses, and some cars
And then we passed some open bars
    Morning drinkers? O my God!
Now that is something very odd
With coffee close, I didn't fear
Those sucking down a morning beer. :ahhh:

So here at office I do sit
    Inside a modest coders pit
Will coffee hot and taco tasty
    Felling flat and looking pasty
    Trying to wake up again
So I can let my day begin
Under my desk I might just creep
And try to catch up on my sleep. %-P

..no idea where these come from. Sometimes they just pop out. :red: :red: :red:

I found out the problem of making the textures for Yweeb to work. Some of the jpgs had an extra period (.) it was like name..jpg instead of name.jpg. It makes it difficult for poser to find that image when loading the textures

    I'm pondering some crazy stuff.

Like... if temperature creeps up to -5 C at night, I would like to drag one of the foldable guest beds to my balcony, set up some wind barriers around it plus cover (basically make it like a pillow+sheet fort to retain heat), get double blankets, wear something appropriate, and then try to sleep over night there. But I'm sure I need some more to make sure I won't get frostbites or hypothermia (even if I'm seriously cold-resistant; I am not stupid and I know one can die from it, especially after falling asleep).

I think I'll let my laziness to win, though. Sounds like too much effort for satisfying my curiosity.
