Can anyone who owns the centaur tell me if the horse-hide has a bump map?

One of the (bizarre) absences in the Daz Horse 2 skins is that... NONE of them have bump, Normal, or Displacement. None.

RawArt's centaur textures include, at least, bump maps - but sadly teh figure does not seem to accpt the centaur outfits in any decent way (size issues?)

The Centaur looks great. But are the clothes in the bundles modified to fit the Centaur or can you use normal G3M clothes on him?

With what I have been spending recently in the sales my first thought was no! not now! can't you just wait a bit? But I think this one is probably good enough to stretch to another "one last thing before I stop". But it will be the last for a while. Honestly. I can stop any time you know.

TY for those who replied re: my interaction poses. I'm still learning on DAZ and it's refreshing to know that the poses are 'universal'. So much for me cutting back after the mad march spend...but it seems i'm not the only one! :)

I rather like it. It's nice to have a dedicated centaur character, instead of having to do alot of hoop jumping and faffing about to make one on my own. I haven't got the funds for the pro bundle right now, but it's definitely wishlisted till monies and computer woes are solved. I will buy that hair with the braided mustache now though. yes

I've run into a weird problem.

I load the kentaur and apply a kentaur character in the loading/creating window. All is fine, and when I do a spot render in that window, it also renders fine. When I go to the render window, suddenly the huiman body is visible, and it also renders. If I go back to the loading window, all is fine. Did anyone encounter something similar?

The only time I had the human body show up like that was when I had the geometry editor tool active.

Why wasn't I born rich instead of handsome?

I love historical and mythological themes, and would otherwise grab the Pro-bundle in a heartbeat. But too many great items have come through lately, and I'm waiting on that Creech set too...

From what I can see I think this set is extremely well done. I know the body connection area is going to be problematic - but it IS a connection between a horse and a man, so that won't be too easy to hide. The Naria movies used a lot of clothing to mask that issue. The lack of real bump, normal and displacement maps is troubling, but I'm assuming it will be handled like the Dragons, with add-ons and expansions. This is already a big character, so I'm not going to fault that.

Items like the Cypruss armor are wonderful. I'm not too keen on the Kentauros, but its personal taste, and I won't say no if its a bundle.

RawArt's Rogan probably takes the cake. It is a much better fit for a larger character than the Ivan shown in the promos. Otherwise I the various characters look great.

Centaur 7 - well, that's a real surprise. I like him, and he has a nice big pro bundle. But... the two FW/FWSA characters are Iray only, and I don't need all this armour stuff... Chiron/Kheiron was a healer in the Greek legend - so he's got far too much war stuff. I don't know. I like the base figure and its textures and morphs, most of the characters and poses, and some of the armours. Hmmmm...

True, but some of the centaurs were a rowdy bunch. Particularly when they got liquored up, they tended to get a bit feisty. And go ask the Lapiths if the Centaurs were nice, peace-loving sorts. I could definitely see centaurs using armor and weapons.

"Back went Bacchus to Olympus and when he broke the sorry news
The satyrs were dissatisfied, the nymphs were not amused
The centaurs and the Lapiths had a sharp exchange of views
And the watchmen and the border guards succumbed to self-abuse."

By the way, anyone interested in the biology of centaurs might like to read "So how does a centaur eat anyway?" by Judith Tarr.

    TL;DR: It's complicated.

I am still tossing this in and out of my cart even though I should know better

    I have more questions

the rigging the node names on the horse half

    do they match horse 2?

can it take H2 poses and horse animation (h2 can take Milhorse gaits and I have many)

if it can it might gallop right into my cart no hesitation

  • AlmightyQUESTAlmightyQUEST Posts: 2,003

I had asked it earlier, but I am also very curious about the H2 poses as an option.

I'm currently looking for a second job to fund my daz purchases.... I was not not not going to buy anything except for the Zevo's new Skin builder and Greybro's coming soon Creech for the next couple of months.  The one thing that could change my mind was this.  It was in and out of my cart 20 times this morning before I finally said to heck with it, and broke down and bought it.  I've been waiting since I joined for an updated Centaur. I have to say I am most impressed although I won't have time to do anything with it until later or maybe tomorrow.

well the horse motions are not compatable

am not surprised but do hope someone releases an aniblock or looped duf animated pose as my attempts are not likely to look great

I think this is really cool and tested the pro-bundle in my cart with other things and for me, at this time, I just can't afford it, and unfortunately it's being sent to wishlist.

But I love when PAs think outside the box! Just when I think I have everything I could ever need, something cool and different comes along. Just wish I had the money!

I bought the bundle and that's saying allot as I don't buy allot of the DAZ figure specific stuff much any more but this.. this is cool and I love mythology.  My only niggle is the transitional area is a bit abrupt.  I think someone needs to create a torso to horse fiberhair blender to make it more realistic, esp if it's a nekid Centaur!  LMAO

    Check out the addon character by RawArt:  https://www.daz3d.com/rogan-for-centaur-7-male ;

  • The Succubus snake tail for Genesis 2 seemed more gradual... As do many of the later Mermaid bits. There was an Opacity gradient that smoothed the transition on the Mermaid parts. I don't quite remember with the Snake tail. If you could use a gradient to transit between the human and horse, that would be good. (I'm just waiting for someone to try to kitbash with G3F!)

While I don't need the centaur myself, I'm nevertheless happy to see something so unique!  I think this is really great and hope to see more releases that push the creative envelope.  Great job, team! :)

Likewise the Centaur was a hard pass for me just down to the fact that I wouldn't use it. That said, I think it looks fantastic. I don't understand all the harsh critic of the joint of the horse part. As much as such a creature can look natural, it looks very natural to me. Great work Everyone!

When I load Smart Content/Creatures/Male Centaur,  the figure loads in howver there are no textures on the male part (the horse bit is OK) I cannot apply textures to the male part. Pic #1

    Kherion (pic #2) is similar

No lights were used for the render

It appears the huma part is ovelaid by a "Centaur Shell"

I don't have the Centaur and I don't have DAZ open at the moment, but I think I may be able to help you. When I look at your images, I'm seeing untextured geoshell overlapping the humanoid figure. Try this:

    • Go to the Scene tab and expand the character. Look for the Centaur GeoShell and select it.
    • Change to the Parameters tab. Look for visibility options. (Not sure what it's called.) You will see numerous body parts listed, each with an On/Off button.
    • Set these to Off for the humanoid parts, ie. arms, head, neck, etc.
    • The torso may be tricky. There really should Cutour Opacity maps for the torso to centaur transition.

Perhaps someone who bought the Centaur will see this and comment. Seems to me there should be a more elegant solution, and I have no idea why he isn't working "out-of-the-box" for you.

I'm not put off by the transition between human toso and horse body. There are many ways to camoflage that with clothing and such. But after putting everything in my cart that I wanted, the pro bundle and three add-ons, the total exceeds my store credit by a few dollars. If I buy him now, I won't have any funds for the rest of the month. It does't look like there was an orange banner, but if there was, I didn't qualify. :( And I just can't justify getting this now, but I do want him. So into the wishlist he and the add-ons have gone. I'll have to wait until he goes on sale again, at the same time I have enough money available.

But I did want to add my voice to those thanking the PAs for their work on the Centaur 7, and assure them if they do add-ons in the future, I will be interested.

That works, for the centaurs in the pro package.

It doesn't work on Rogan - for that I have to go into the material editor for the Male Centaur Body.

Can anybody tell me if the horse and the human part can be scaled independently? As to, make the horse body bigger in comparison to the human torso.

Will someone who has the Pro Bundle please see if the different armor sets work effortlessly with plain (non-equine) G3M?

  • Saba TaruSaba Taru Posts: 170

Parts of the outfits included in the Pro Bundle will work with a plan ol' G3M.  You can hide some material zones to make them usable on a couple of outfits, but for the most part, they are designed to work with the centaur body, not G3M's rear end.  Of course, bracers, helmets, and chest pieces work without issue.  Anything that is meant to cross the join, not so much (at least not without a fair bit of outfit voodoo).

The top half will, that is after all just Genesis 3 Male. But the parts that follow the horse bones of course won't.

Sorry but no can't scale the parts seperately
